Als junger Mann war ich all Ihrer Musik ausgesetzt, mein Vater arbeitete für RCA und ABC Dunhill. Schön, einen Überblick darüber zu bekommen, warum Ihre Musik den Test der Zeit bestanden hat.
Wow, what a life story.. Thanks for posting! What an impressive guy.
One of the most inspiring stories I've heard.
love john kay...hes awesome......................
I must say that I shed a tear over his Christmas story.
I was a big fan from the getgo, after hearing hearing this story, love them even more😊
Thank you so much for this. I've admired this man and his poetic music for many years and love to see his history! Again....THANK YOU!
He was leading the birth of Hard Rock! My respect for John has gone up a few notches!
Little Richard birthed hard rock and Chuck Berry took the baton from there.
Loving his rendition of "walkin blues" here.. missed the part of how he was introduced to his first guitar. Thanks for this video .!
I was hooked on John Kay and Steppenwolf since the 60s, and now so more than ever. He is an awesome person
They really should make a movie about him hell of a story
This is an amazing story ,I would have never guessed his past in a million years
John Kay doing Delta Blues and killing it … trip . Saw Steppenwolf in the 80's John owned the place just by walking on stage .
Saw him in 87, Alvin Lee opened the show, smaller but one of the best shows I ever saw, and Iv'e seen a bunch of 'em including Golden Earring on their home turf in Holland, that was a great one to.
@@dukecraig2402 wow , that does sound like a show .
@@oldman9843
Oh it was, another great one I saw was Golden Earring on their home turf in Holland in 1984, I was in the Army stationed in Germany and was sent to Holland to participate in the annual 4 day 100 mile march in the city of Nijmegen, the last day of the march is always on a Friday and that night in the city of Nijmegen is the biggest party in Holland every year, people come from all over the country for it, the entire city is a party, me and my buddy were stumbling around and came across the city square where we could see a stage set up with a mixing board in front of it and a crowd forming, we made our way over to the mixing board and saw it had Golden Earring stenciled on it, don't you know a little while later after sundown they came out on stage and put on one of the best shows Iv'e ever seen, and it was free, we hung out with a bunch of young Dutch people our age, trading American beers for theirs and smoking hash with them, it was probably the high water mark of my life.
keyman keys it was his Blues that spoke to me.
@@dukecraig2402 I saw him 87 too with Alvin Lee. They both had brand knew albums out that they were promoting
Wow. Great documentary.
He's got a German accent but he can sings the blues like an old blues man!
John is a real treasure, was my go to guy late 60's to now
When I was a kid around 10 I was really sick. My sister was 7 years older than me and she asked me if there was anything that would help me feel better. I said yes, the only thing that would make me happy right now is if I had the Steppenwolf album with magic carpet ride on it. I think this was around 68. I played it constantly and still have it today at 61 years of age. Still listen to it.
Right on!!
I heard it when I was a kid in mid to late 60s, the sound did " take me away". Still does.
If i have any " heroes " left, ( IF), then John Kay is on that list. Much love and admiration.
THANK YOU for posting! Great!
Top Interview doco..I saw Steppenwolf early 80s in Melbourne Australia..Still remember how great they were..John was a wild rocker!!👍
My favorite band growing up. Seen John perform a dozen times over the years.
Great job! TY!
Was introduced to John Kay’s music back in the 1970’s. When I was in school
The real deal...John Kay. Can't believe how good this documentary is. Very revealing.
Yes it is a real deal.
Very knowledgeable he lived through it in his autobiography he comes across as very sincere
That is the way it should be
full of honesty and truth.
Never seen this biography, Big Steppenwolf fan.
My first Heavy rock band 🎸
This is the best documentary!
My first Concert, Steppenwolf, 1967- Duluth Minnesota; while my Brother was in Vietnam, my sister in law, took me see them. They saw the Monster, the rest just nurtured.
This is beyond awesome, I can't say thank you strong enough!!!!
I had bought Kay's solo album on a clearance album rack, years ago. Its called Forgotten songs and Heroes. It was released in 1972. I still have the LP. He plays his favs of who musically influenced him.
Very nice record. Always a keeper in my collection.
I have that one too. It was given to me, along with Dylan's Blood on the Tracks.
Steppenwolf 7 is my favorite album by them . Every song is great ! Of course, they had a lot of other great songs too !!
Foggy Mental Breakdown is the coolest song I've ever heard and will forever be my favorite Steppinwolf song👍
So many great songs on that album. Definitely my favorite by them. Renegade is a highlight. Incredible production too, that record.
I met John in Daytona Beach Bike Week in 2000, after the concert at The Band Shell,he stopped took pictures and signed an autograph on the picture.
He never looks older. He will be sexy at 90. I love this man. I've seen them 4 times.
Awesome bio..right now i'm living in Oshawa..68 years young now..giver!!
John Kay and Stephen wolf. Stephen wolf was one of my first 8-tracks, I loved the song Magic Carpet Ride. They toured in the early 80's, I saw them in a bar in Bossier City's old Bossier Strip.
I was in my early teens during his hey day and thought he was the epitome of "cool".
Steppenwolf.....great rock n roll....Awesome playing...vocals spot on....
Saw them live back in the 90s ,they were fantastic, one of my favorites,
Rock Hall of Fame is a scam..cause Steppenwolf ain’t in it
Lance..had no idea these Iconic rockers were not in the HoF..ffs..Push, Born to be..Magic...all these songs that has impressed every one of us in one way or another..movies, cruising..just like congress the HOF is full or cronies and corruption..
iamrichrocker it’s a scam and a sham...a fucking shit show..if someone tells me the cure or nile Rodgers are more iconic than Steppenwolf, they don’t know shit about music
And ABBA IS WTF ?

Thanks John for your openness
John Kay had a powerful testimony one night at the Last Chance in Poughkeepsie. He found the Lord! Amen.
Amen? Amun, Amun Ra. Christians end their prayers with the name of the Sun god. LOL.
He found the lord?? What happened did you people LOSE HIM AGAIN?
@@Buzzramjet IKR, The fairy tale believers have the nerve to say their imaginary friend is everywhere.
