Amazing walk around and complete run down on this Y. Evene the history of the vehicle given by the new owner is exceptional . Thank you guys. You should do more of these COMPLETE RUN DOWNS on XW & XY GT's & HO's you get in.
god I love both ford and holden to think in australia we built such amazing cars.at 40 i am lucky to own a 2017 holden ssv ute my first v8 ever holy moly im addicted to v8 now
Australia has fallen, there's to many restrictions in Australia and with so many restrictions it's impossible for Australia to grow. Beautiful GTHO, I'm happy for you mate 👍. 281km/h 🤯 that's balls of steel. That car would have had to have been mechanically perfect to hit those speeds and not crash.
changed from high output to handling option for the insurance companys.r/t charger 6packs did allright down straight a bit quick down 1/4 mile.(factory)
My dad had one exactly the same as the one in this clip... he sold it in the late 70’s because it wasn’t suitable as a ‘family’ car. Safe to say I’m sure my dad holds deep down resentment, not only for having to sell it, but more so for the fact they’re worth over a million bucks today! Doh! Where’s Marty and Doc Brown when you need em? Lol 😂
Thanks for your article. In addition I believe most cars that were Bathurst Specials 250 were made and they had to sell 200 to the Public and the 50 ended up at Bathurst with the only Mods. were Blueprinting and Balancing the motor. Didn't know they made 300. Other - 36 Gallon Tank had a Ball inside which would block the Fuel from leaking in a roll over. I think they went with a larger 15" Wheel to give it longer legs down Conrod Straight. What a Car with an unbeatable sound.
Only the last 100 of the 300 could be optioned. The Globes were homlogated in '72 following the supercar scare which left Ford without a series production race car.
Don't know why Ford Anglias are talked about, never a big volume seller in the few years they were sold here. Perhaps he meant the Ford Cortina GT models than won Bathurst for three years in a row. 1963, 64 and 65. The XY only won in 1971. Cortinas sold very well for a long period here. My estimate twenty times more than Anglias that never were the factory race cars here. Even the HR Holden comparison is from four years and three models earlier. The XY stands up well without distorted comparisons.
The fastest in '71 was 153 mph by a driver who's name I cannot recall but he wasn't a 'name' driver. Obviously the 6150 rev limiters were all disconnected.
I'd very much doubt that - a 440 Charger was only a mid/low 14s quarter mile car at best from factory - 4 door Coronet police pack was significantly heavier so must have been significantly slower (Mopar fan/owner)
It's true the police package Dodge 4 Door had a higher top speed. There were a few faster 4 door cars prior to 71 not to mention the cars that were not a package & could be optioned up with big motors & tall gears. The XY is fast for what it is I give credit to this owner for saying it is one of the faster 4 door cars from the time.
I’m a holden lover but these are hotter than hot. My dads mate had one of these and drove it a few times said you could do the speed limit in first gear
Awesome Cars my brother has one and on the Highway one night no other cars on the road, we were sitting on 100mph amazing feeling. Nothing like a GTHO Phase 3. Go Ford.
mick he I've heard over the years blah blah blah how good the ford ho is with little regonition for the charger well I'm sick of it the E49 is a great car a six so I will blah blah blah it deserves to be up there with the ho
victor petroff nothing wrong with e49 chargers.. they never got as much recogisition because of the tavo fuckwits in the valiant community who constantly refuse to see any value or pay market value for any valiant
Aidan Lambert Chrysler was a small team and had no where near the money that ford put into its race team tho they didn't win Bathurst they got close a gallant effort considering the E38 to E49 had less time for development than the ford given more development and Money who knows but that doesn't take away how good the E49 is as a car people are now starting to realize it and are willing to pay big money for one
@Frank. T Harry Firth's HDT tested the Yellow LC HDT V8 Torana Prototype at the 1972 Easter Bathurst and Won, Tested at the AIR race track and Calder on the 14/4/1972. Unlike the Phase 4 was never tested on a Race Track at all. Harry was miles in front of Ford in Testing that is for sure.
I think you're pulling your chain mate saying 175mph down conrod. When they went to the 15" Globes in 72, John French was clocked at 155mph. Im a ford man but your full of shit

Brilliant! I thoroughly enjoyed watching this & learning all about the GTHO!!! Thanks
I like the warning sticker next to the glove box. " CAUTION .Do not lower the windows at speeds in excess of 100 mph."
Thanks to the presenters. I enjoyed to hear about all the unique history and mystique around the famous GT HO.

A track Red XY GTHO Phase III sold for $1.3 Million in 2018
a great investment if you brought 1 brand new
overpriced 4 door taxis
Lucky duck
The restoration is spot on I would like to have the same people work on the car Holden spend top dollar
It's got the wrong sump, that one is of an XA GTHO.

There is a PhaseIII in perth that has a factory FMX in it.. AUtomatic baby! ;P
Anyone know the serial or production number of the John Goss Ph3 that ended up in NZ?
More of them today then back in 71 lol

Nice replica.
Is this still available?

Love the engine but the gearbox it's in a league of its own bolt on HP no need to change internals except for a bearing or to
Hi this is Wally. If you load the gear stick you will destroy the Top loader $$$ .I hope this is helpful. Thank you Wally
The Moffat GTHO’s did not do 175 mph, they were clocked at around 140 mph. Even in 1978 the Cobras only made it to 158 mph.
The fastest in '71 was 153 mph by a driver who's name I cannot recall but he wasn't a 'name' driver. Obviously the 6150 rev limiters were all disconnected.
Wasn't that the yellow GTHO that blew the engine down conrod?
They were under rated they actually have 513 horsepower. Then you have the super Ford xy Falcon which has 615 horsepower with fuel injection
More like 390-400hp.
I have always been told that "GTHO" stood for "GRAND TOURING HIGHEST OPTION"
I believe the HO part stands for "Handling option".
yes handling option. For insurance it was cheaper than High Output.
It was meant to be High Output, but the insurance premiums were too much so they changed it to Handling Option.
The worlds fastest 4 dr sedan in 1971 was a Dodge Coronet 440, 727 ,3.23 sure grip police car

lately it seems like phase IV RPO's are all over the place, i thought only 4 were made, there must be close to 70 RPO's..what gives?
Two different things. 1 x Phase 4 and 3 race proto-types built in June '72. 250 x RPOs built in Aug '73. Broad difference in specs. Cheers.
The brakes on these car had a contain abstotos and copper and castiron
