I am so tired of getting my fingers burned when picking up something hot with a cheap pot holder from a store. I'm making my own now. It is SO nice to watch someone who hasn't been doing it for 50 yrs. You did it slow enough for me w/o boring me . I taught Chemistry and Genetics before my MIGRAINES showed up and made that impossible but SEWING OMG!! It takes some skills I don't have apparently. NICE tip on making the batting smaller than the outer material!!! NO ONE has said that before. Now I know how I screwed up on so many hot pads. GREAT TUTORIAL, I'll be looking forward to more of yours.
One additional comment, your fabric and thread should be 100% cotton, linen or wool. polyester will melt at oven or stove top temperatures. if you grab your skillet handle with polyester fabric, you will have a problem. outside of that, this is a great tutorial!!
@@blurssotong do you mean a fabric that is a cotton/polyester blend? i'm sorry but I really don't think so. The poly can melt even if it's blended with cotton. I think all the synthetic fabrics will have this problem. You could probably test a fabric that you want to use by holding a scrap of it against a hot skillet or or a pan that has been in the oven for a while.

I took a beginner sewing class at our library a few years ago and we made these very similar to how you made it and I just started sewing again (finally got myself a machine 😅❤) and I was trying to remember how to do it. Thank you so much. This is exactly what I was looking for, a pot holder/hot pad without bias binding around the edges. I made an oven mitt for a friend and had enough extra fabric to do one of these and a skillet handle cover all matching! There MAY be enough to do a small coaster or two as well. Thank you again! (I just checked to see what other videos you have and discovered there's only one other. You did this very well. you should do more if you can.)
Great tutorial. I have a suggestion. Instead of reaching over the top of the machine to raise/lower the pressure foot when you pivot at the corners, or any other time you need to raise or lower it, reach your hand through the middle of the machine and around to flip the lever. I promise it will make your life so much easier. Happy Sewing!

I got a Singer Serger back in March. It came threaded. When I went to rethread it, I nearly threw it out the window. Trying to do the loop, you have to thread it by running the thread behind and across the front. One was the one that almost broke me.
Some helpful hints for your next videos, at the beginning when you are holding up the pieces that are needed for the project you should explain what they are for don’t assume everybody knows because you may have some beginners watching. Also some people may be confused when you’re using the term batting that usually is reserved for 100% cotton batting for quilts or even the 80% cotton polyester mix. And lastly, you need to make these similar to oven mitts where you have two layers each of 100% cotton batting and the Insul Bright. You also forgot to mention that depending on which insul bright you are using, you have to lay it down in the correct order where the insulation fabric is facing towards the outside so it will prevent heat transferring through the pot holder. Some of their products are directional. You did not mention seam allowance and also a walking foot is preferred versus an all purpose foot. Unfortunately your pins were in the wrong direction you should be pulling the pins out with the pinheads closest to your body not closest to your presser foot. And it’s easier to quilt each of those pieces prior to putting it together as a sandwich. For these types of thick projects it’s best to use wonder clips or a generic version instead of pins

I have to agree with this. For concern of coming across as condescending and discouraging, I feared leaving a similar comment. I'd like to insert here, that it is always helpful to NOT cut the fabric from the turn hole when you are trimming away the excess fabric before turning and top stitching. This ensures that all fabric is caught in the top stitch and will not come undone and/or fray.
Thank you for the tutorial. I personally found the ship and handling was shocking for the insulbrite, I feel there may be a better price if you may have the time to look.
I wanted to watch this, but the volume was so low & when I had to turn it up high enough to hear, every time I had a message, it was ear splitting - had to quit watching.

I have the same sewing machine. Why do you keep reaching over the top of it to drop the presser foot, when the lever is right there by the needle??
