Easy pop chord progressions get a lift from suspensions. Soaring melodies use chord extensions as wings. Viva la Vida, and The Scientist from Coldplay are excellent examples. Plus... I try my hand at this pop songwriter hack as well.

Great to see an analysis of contemporary popular music. Even a repeated melodic pattern over diatonic chords can form various suspensions that make the music interesting!

Great lesson. The piano in your original piece reminds me of "Somewhere Only We Know" by Keane (a great song, so take that as a compliment).

At times you're going a little too fast for me, but mostly I get it. One powerful idea explained... And now I'm going to be looking for it. Love that tune at the end.

I Loved how you present the meaning of the bands naming. It makes so much sense, at least intuitively.
    Great Won Chris😊

yeah, that's just my hallucination of the name, but it's a persuasive argument...

I love this kind of analysis. Very inspiring. In interviews Chris Martin says he doesn’t know any music theory. I can’t imagine having that much intuition.

Music is essentially the treatment of dissonance.

What I learned is that pop music is the lowest common denominator. 😂

😆maybe, but it's more about the numerator.
