    Just watched your video and the information about the "enhanced" Daikin Fit vs the "standard". Does this mean the enhanced is for much colder climates than here in Florida ? or will the standard with a heat pump application be fine here as we have milder winters ?

    • @TheHVACDopeShow
      @TheHVACDopeShow  10 місяців тому +3

      The standard is fine if paired with an air handler, the nuance was related to rebates and the IRA tax credit, but when paired with an Air Handler the efficiency ratings are higher and my understanding is they pair well and qualify for the tax credit. Benefit for the cold climate enhanced version is it now qualifies as a cold climate heat pump and therefore can qualify for a tax credit. And if you have an air handler setup already (vs furnace) you’ll be fine in Florida with any of the Daikin fit heat pump products

      @@TheHVACDopeShow just saw this video and was going to ask the same question. I am upgrading and was deciding between the 38Mura and the Dakin Fit. I also live in Florida(Zone 1). Which are winter is consider a fall up north. I am going with Daikin because of the warranty. In addition that I need a 3.5Ton. Carrier doesn't have a 3.5 on the 38Mura. But a 4ton. My house is 2033 square ft. townhome. Base on math((2023sqf x20)/12000=3.38Ton. I should have a 3.5 Ton. I currently have a 3 Ton old Lennox/Trade and its on his last leg(17 years). Its the original unit that came with the townhome. Hope a made the correct decision.

    For the Daikin fit heat pump, is there a way to adjust the fan speed? I just recently had a Daikin fit HP system, the noise level is crazy, and the fan seems running 100% full blast all the time, not really as what they claimed as a variable speed system... is that any advice?

    • @TheHVACDopeShow
      @TheHVACDopeShow  Місяць тому

      It’s the middle of summer so if it’s over 100F or 105F it will run in boost mode which is 100% capacity… what region are you located in? It could be something else going on that needs adjustment. The other option is to adjust fan speed in the settings, sometimes it’s set to auto but I believe you can set your cooling fan speed to low medium or high and that will adjust the cooling speed fan settings downward…

      It can work with an air handler or furnace / coil combo, but yes it has to connect to an indoor unit. When paired with a furnace the furnace becomes your backup heat on cold nights (below 0F) or when the system isn’t keeping up in heat pump mode.

    I'm currently in the planning stage of building a new construction home. I do not have an existing central HVAC system. I am interested in installing an inverter system for my new home, probably the daikin Fit, since I do want duct work due to the fact that I want a whole home air purification system also installed to run through the ductwork. Having said that, do you think a dual fuel system is necessary? while it doesn't typically go below 0 here often in NJ, I do have access to natural gas that I'm not sure would be helpful in the chance my electricity goes out. Or would it make more sense just to put in a whole house generator backup system and skip the combustion furnace altogether? thank you!

    I have a Daikin ground source heat pump Altherma 3 GEO. It's been about 3 fahrenheit for the past week here and the pump keeps my house at steady 75 fahrenheit with underfloor heating and the 50 gallon hot water tank at a steady 140 fahrenheit. Very happy with the pump. Of course my ventilation unit is equipped with heat recovery so that helps. These combined systems with a furnace are unheard of where I live, literally nobody has one.

I don't know if they sell this ASHP in the US but the outdoor unit looks the same as the Fit. I will probably buy another Daikin ASHP for my garage and then I will set up all of the pumps in the Daikin Onecta app. Daikin products are considered very good here in Finland. Anyway 135F or 57C seems WAY too high for radiant floor heating, which I have. I have my leaving water temp set to 91F or 33C, which is sufficient to keep the whole 150sqm2 or 1600sqft house warm.

      From one system? Depending on the size of your home you’ll probably have two systems no matter what since it will need that to satisfy the load, and also work better with two separate systems covering different parts of the home. The stand alone heat pumps for pools work well but I wouldn’t want that tied into my house for redundancy purposes because if the pool goes out you want the home to still be able to cool. I would look at Daikin fit heat pumps as a good option for you and consult with a local contractor, lmk if you’d like a referral

    Im in Canada, just north of Toronto. My home retrofit involves a lower level and main level currently heated with forced air gas ducted. The four bedroom upper level is electric baseboard heat. We have concluded that the addition of ductwork to the upper area would be complicated and cost prohibitive. The contractor has recommended a one ton ductless unit Daikin, Daikin Single Head WALL MOUNT Aurora Heat Pump, 1.00 Ton, Ductless Outdoor to supply the upper and a Daikin, DAIKIN FIT Heat Pump, 2 Ton, Heat Pump to supply the lower two floors.
    I have questioned the need for two units thinking that there may be an Daiken unit that may offer something similar to the Daikin, DAIKIN FIT Heat Pump, 2 Ton, Heat Pump with a ductless outlet that also incorporates a possable single head ductless wall mount that can feed the upper level. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

      What your referencing is a VRV life unit and it essentially combines two units into one. It’s also low ambient rated and can tie into a forced air coil for the main floor and a cassette, ductless, or slim ducted unit for the upstairs. If you have an attic space where you could put a few ducts in the attic the slim duct units allow for a separate ducted system without as much difficulty (assuming you’re only trying to run 4-6 ducts or less). It’s still more expensive but will work better than connecting to an existing ducted system from the main floor. Hope that helps! The separate condensers aren’t a bad option fyi, if you have a Daikin dealer already they should be familiar with some of the VRV products

      How cold does it get? If the temps never drop below 10-20F then a properly sized cold climate heat pump should be able to keep up (assuming your duct work is big enough for the load). Lots of variables to consider but in general air source heat pumps have backup heat in climates where the temps get below 10F because the load on the home increases as the capacity of the unit decreases. Geothermal / air to water products are subject to this less but it’s still a consideration because the load goes up. We have a 10 ton system for example installed at a facility that keeps up down to about 10F but at -15F it doesn’t stand a chance because the load on the space decreases. Just some food for thought. But for example in most moderate climates like phoenix (barely drops below 40F) you never need backup heat.

      Yes we can come out there it’s just subject to availability but w have heat pumps that will work at your elevation / climate. If you’re in a condo what kind of hvac do you have currently? Often times condos have forced air hydronics (first co units) and so it’s not always a feasible option. We can give you a remote bid for free, for Keystone we charge a trip charge just because of the distance but we’re happy to at least examine some options remotely if you can provide us some pictures. • @TheHVACDopeShow
      @TheHVACDopeShow  9 місяців тому

      Very easy but you’ll need a separate condenser. They pull little power so they work great for additions… if you want it to run off the same condenser it’s more expensive substantially depending on what system you were originally planning on getting because you’re looking at a VRF / VRV setup at that point. Thanks for watching!

      @TheHVACDopeShow  5 місяців тому +1

      For sure my pleasure! Unfortunately for the fit you’d need a CAPE coil with an electronic expansion valve, however for inverters you can also go for a DX9 or DZ9 and I believe both of those pair with that coil with a standard TXV. The only downside is it’s typically a more expensive condenser and not side discharge, so I would verify if it’s actually a better deal to just replace the coil and go for a fit, or just keep existing and add a DX9 / DZ9 condenser and keep the existing coil. Dm96vc is communicating and will pair with a DX9 (cool only is the DX, a DZ is heat pump if you wanted that option).

However, if I wanted to add another zone to the system (basement - no ducts), it sounds like Daiking FIT doesn't support it. Should I be looking at the 'VRV Life' model? Thank you

    • @TheHVACDopeShow
      @TheHVACDopeShow  10 місяців тому

      Daikin fit should pair with a zone control board (like a zoning damper) and then the ductwork has to be modified to account for it. If the basement is unfinished or there’s access to be able to modify it easily zoning control boards are an option on the fit (99% on that). We’ve personally done that on a DX9 which is the same communicating tech but it’s not common in Colorado. If you want a separate head unit (cassette / ductless etc) then you’d go with a VRV to accommodate that, or could do a separate unit altogether as a separate 1 to 1 (1 condenser to 1 head unit) which is a good option too because it gives you some redundancy.

    Do you recommend going a size up on a cold climate heat pump? Have a 1520 sq ft house, heat loss calls for a 2 ton (currently have 2 stage 2 ton heat pump) but was told to size up to a 3 ton to get more BTUs in the winter. Do the new CCHP with the inverter ramp up for heat for winter but able to ramp down during the summer for AC to a 1 or 2 ton if we went with a 3 ton heat pump? Wondering your thoughts.

    • @TheHVACDopeShow
      @TheHVACDopeShow  7 місяців тому +1

      Short answer is no…. you size for the cooling load not the heating load, and the size of the ductwork. If the system is too big for the ductwork it will short cycle and be loud (too much airflow). Unfortunately a lot of people make this mistake but you don’t size heat pumps for the heating load unless that happens to match the cooling load and duct sizing.

      @@TheHVACDopeShowyoung man you might want to revisit manual J again, both heating and cooling loads need to be met. Let’s look at a typical home in the San Francisco Bay Area, when you do your manual J it states you design to 42 degree F outdoor temperature. Say the home is 1600 sq”, most homes of that size in the area would have an 80K BTUH furnace with a 4 ton AC. If you were to install a daikin fit you could come up short on the heating BTUH’s since a 4 ton fit only puts out 45K btuh’s. I’m a retried contractor and now a consultant and have been called in on “problem” homes where the customers are not happy with the Fit. What I have found is that they come up a bit short on the BTU’s on the heating side. First thing I do is find ways to make the home more efficient by performing an energy audit. I start by performing a duct test, ensuring proper duct design and perform a manual J. I can usually fix the issues by increasing attic insulation to R44, having the ducting sealed to less than 10% leakage if needed & of course checking return air grills for proper sizing I size to 200 sq” per ton and I size my return ducts to .08” of static pressure on my Ductulator. Sometimes sizing up is a good idea if you come up short on heating BTUH as long as you take duct sizing into consideration. You can always trim down the CFM on the Fit. I have had lengthy discussions with Daikin on this subject and they agree with my solutions. One more thing the Fit wont short cycle since they are inverter compressors. The only other thing to consider is if the customer is willing to set the thermostat and for get it because thats how the fit works best.

      Just keep in mind that the enhanced hits the $2000 tax credit but the standard does not if I’m not mistaken. Would have to verify for your region but that’s one thing to consoder

      @@TheHVACDopeShow Nothing is "wrong" with the system, it mainly boils down to a hard lesson I had to learn in expectations vs reality. I thought I could swap out an old single stage beast with an inverter model and change nothing else and just sip power, however, turns out cooling an entire house with no zones takes a butt ton of power regardless. I do not need nor want to cool the entire footprint and so there is virtually no scenario where I want to turn on the 4 kW fire hose and nuke the house with cold, generally I just want 1 or 2 rooms cooled. I think hydronic heating and cooling is the future and I'm going to work towards making my own system. I genuinely just want this fit compressor not to go to waste, you could totally hook up one of your customers up that would appreciate it far more than me. If this compressor could be adapted to do heating however..... I would be interested in that, is that a thing? I will take a few guesses at your email if you want to reply to me directly, I had to remember that I made this comment and track it down to see if anyone replied this time.

    Daikin air-source heat-pump for heating your house sucks, those heat-pumps are terrible noisy.
    The colder it gets, the more noise they make.

      Not the Daikin fit that’s incorrect… must be confused, Daikin fit / VRV life is quiet. I have one installed outside our bedroom window and can’t ever hear it… old school single systems ? Ok sure but that’s not what we’re talking about in this video…

      Calling that quiet, you must be joking.
      The specs say: "With the ability to reach sound power levels as low as 56dB(A)"
      56dB(A) at low frequencies could be well above 90 dB(C). That's loud enough to cause ear-damage and permanent hearing loss.

      We are a developer that has installed heat pumps in our developments. The are as quiet (and in many cases quieter) than a simple house fan…So not noisy at all. In fact we even install them on porches as the breeze from the fan units (which are that quiet) makes sitting on the porches pleasant with fan from the heat pump running and cooling the house.

      @@Spp235. Daikin heatpumps are quiet, as long as you don't turn them on, if off, then they are quieter than a running house fan.
      Your last porch example is an example of COOLING the house, while as a "professional" installer you know that they produce the most noise, while heating the house.

    If you need dual fuel in your heat pump, It's junk. Cold climate heat pumps cover 100% of heating and cooling without the need for backup. R290 air to water monoblock heat pumps still function down to -35C.

    • @TheHVACDopeShow
      @TheHVACDopeShow  10 місяців тому +5

      Not true. Can’t always size a heat pump for the load if the ductwork isn’t big enough to handle it. 1,000 square foot house could need 60k Btu output for very cold temps (Canada) but would never put a 5 ton heat pump on a house that small. Then your cooling is way oversized just to account for the heating load…
