Been using RadioRA “1 or classic” for over 10 years now and it has been extremely reliable. Not sure what you mean by your comment about it’s problems. Granted it was a pain for a DIY’er to setup but once set up in our 5600 sq ft house we have had zero issues. Rock solid clear connect technology. I have used SmartThings, Zigbee and insteon and they are nowhere nears as reliable. I am now only considering slowly converting to RadioRA 2 Select because of its ease of setup, iOS app and network capabilities. Its similar to Casetas but on steroids. Caseta is good too but the dimmers are a little annoying when in the dark and you want to quickly turn on a light by feel.
Thanks for this intro, Tyler. I'm a homeowner, my house utilizes RadioRA2 for indoor ceiling cans and outdoor sconces. I'd like to add one element only: to convert a regular (hot) wall outlet to a RA2-controlled wall outlet which would follow an existing RadioRA2 circuit. Is that possible? Does each element receive and track just one RadioRA2 signal? So could I (or an installer) swap out the existing outlet for a RadioRA2 one? Then two table lamps could follow the ceiling cans in the living room. (I live in Menlo Park, California).
Hey Paul, it has been a while since I've messed with RadioRa2 but last I checked they do not make a wall outlet. There are simple plug in models that are either a dimmer or relay on/off module. This would be a simple solutions to just plugging into your outlet. Not sure if this helps
Thanks for sharing Pros/Cons Tyler. I'm not totally sold on RadioRa 2! Can you suggest an alternative system for smart home automation that offers better Pros for 2 story house, that a home owner does not have to rely on Electrician, manufacturers Rep, technical support, etc. in programming or add on for as long as they own there home and be married to Lutron brand device only.
Wally Nassif Wally have you looked into Zwave? That might be a good solution for you and you can diy. Check out my video on it and let me know any questions
I have a Lutron RA2 system installed in my home in Brooklyn. What a nightmare. I have wasted so much time with this system, and it is still not working properly. I don't know why you'd want to get this system in the age of Alexa and Google home. I've spent a ton of money $3,000 to $4,000 to get people here to set up it right (builder had installed it) and it's still not working (that is NOT the cost of the system, that is JUST THE COST to fix it). Insane really. My belief is this company may have made sense a decade ago but now is a nightmare. Their supply chain to reps is not oriented or incentivized to solve problems. I feel a need to warn others.
I had forgotten I still had this channel up from a while back and then got this notification. Yes, I'm not the biggest fan of the RA2 system. I was trying to make the video as unbiased as I could at the time. Lutron can be costly to fix or maintain but not even a drop in the bucket comparative to Crestron or AMX. I personally have a hybrid of Zwave and Zigbee at my place. It is a little outdated but take a look at my Zwave pros and cons video. I'm pretty far removed from automation now but still love it. Also I checked out your channel and might have to take a look at your book!
Greg any luck on the Lutron system? I’m a Lutron dealer/installer on the east coast and happy to have a look at it pro Bono or at least chat and see if we can help you at all.
@@youtubertoo Might be fixed. I had to write the CEO. Then it STILL took 6+ months. Lutron is a mess. I am likely to short the stock. There is so much wrong with all this.

@@youtubetake-over4805 yes
Thank you Tyler! Great video.
Victor B. Thank you for watching Victor!
Can you use the RA2 to work with a low voltage landscape lighting transformer?
And control different zones with it
Wow, great description from a guy that has toggle switches in his house. LOL
Just kidding, great introduction to this product. Thanks!
Haha fair point!! I had made this video at my girlfriend's house at the time. You can rest assured my place is pretty geeked out
Excellent video thank you so much. I have Lutron smart dimmers and hub, how I can interface it with my Schlage lock and samsung smartthings hub?
