In this episode we went to visit Itachuna Rajbari. Itachuna is a village and Itachuna-Khanyan is a gram panchayat in Pandua CD Block in Chinsurah subdivision of Hooghly district in the state of West Bengal, India. This is a short tour from Kolkata was a marvelous one and we got to know the history of Itachuna Rajbari. We had delicious bengali food thali in our lunch. The best bengali thali I ever had. We ordered for traditional bengali food, which consisted of mutton thali, chicken thali and fish thali. It is one the best traditional bengali food I ever had. This Itachuna Rajbari was originally built by Maratha Bargis. They were the Kundans and later turned to Kundu.

আমরা যখন গিয়েছিলাম তখন এই ঘর গুলো ছিল না। তৈরী চলছিল।এই ঘরে কিন্তু রাজবাড়ীর feel টা পাওয়া যাবে না, অনেকটাই দূরে হয়ে গেছে রাজবাড়ী থেকে।

If guests eat in the room, there are ppl who litters, which means they have to employ so many ppl to clean the rooms every now and then.. Not everyone has civic sense.
There are guests who might start drinking in the room violating the rules and controlling all becomes difficult hence a common and crisp rule for all.
Sabar sathey boshey dinner ba lunch korar bhetor ekta maja ebong anondo achey. The children also learns from it.....Hope u will enjoy.

Itachuna is highly overrated.. we ( 4 families ) felt quite uncomfortable … some in the cottages felt very nervous in the rainy season! Long walk at night with inadequate lighting and through the graden( not properly fenced ) after dinner…. Then, .. “ don’t sit there… don’t touch that … must eat in the dining room…” etc, too many limitations. We were all adults, all from the US, with good civic sense, ethics, and cleanliness. Customer relations seemed a foreign concept there! I stayed in “ Jathamoshai“ room in the main building ( around INR 5500 ) ( upstairs ) . It was ok, old furniture etc gave some ambience. Reaching through the labyrinth of stairs, hidden corners added old charm. Food was just ok, for 1000
Pp with fish or meat.
We loved outside the property, the very old Shiva temple, built by the Marathas just opposite the main gate. Not sure why the Itachuna folks avoid showing it.

এই প্রথম তোমার কোনো মন্তব্যে বা কথায় আমার খারাপ লাগলো। ওটা তো রিসোর্ট না যে তুমি তোমার মতো চলতে পারবে। ওটা রাজবাড়ী আর রাজবাড়ী তে থাকতে গেলে তো রাজবাড়ির নিয়মেই চলতে হবে।
আমার বিষয়টা খুব ভালো লেগেছে যে তারা পুরোনো নিয়ম ধরে রেখেছে। খুব বেশি commercialize করেনি কিন্তু room এর বিষয়টা খারাপ লেগেছে । তাদের আগে থেকে বলা উচিত ছিলো room গুলো বাইরে।

Rules, restrictions are good for health and general wellbeing, especially when it comes to us the freespirited bengalis. You had gone to live in heritage property and not in a hostel of a college. Even the dogs of the neighborhood know who belongs to which place.
