The mechanical bits are like a damn anvil, yeah I had a power window motor break, the control arms went bad, the valve cover leaked, but it never left me on the side of the road. All the electronics and dash lights worked like new as well.
I absolutely love my 98 Sc300. It was a dream car of mine for a long time and when I finally found one worth fixing up and restoring, I jumped right on it. I had a red '98 SC400 years ago before I bought this one. Absolutely love the styling of these beauties! Is yours an auto or manual? I really liked the availability of a manual with the 300s, but I'm a sucker for a V8. I've heard of people swapping the brakes, but two things prevent me from doing it myself. Firstly, I've never experienced any issues with my brakes that make me feel that they are inadequate; maybe I've just been lucky. And secondly, I'm not making any modifications to this one; keeping the body, interior and mechanicals all stock.
@@kevinjones6829 That’s awesome man! So my car is an auto as the manual became discontinued after the 97 model year. However mine is the exact model and configuration I always wanted. 98 2JZ with VVTI, white with the factory gold emblems, and Heated seats. Mine is in rougher shape with some rust spots on the quarter panels due to the previous owner not taking proper care. I love 90s era Toyota and Lexus. We never got this generation of SC in the UK, only the later 430 version which hasn’t aged very well I think. I’d love to import this generation at some point in soarer form.
I had considered importing a Soarer prior to finding this one. The real issue I was having with the imports (and even a lot of local SCs) was that they had all been teenager-a-fied; hacked-up dashes, aftermarket equipment, and massive wear and tear. I hope you find one that suits your preferences; they're a dream to own!
Try to find one with stable , senior ownership , rust-free location , and the basic maintenance records. I found a great example here in Southern California , doctor owned .
After owning both models, I say with confidence that an LS400 feels just about the same to own, drive, and maintain as an SC400. The LS was the original Lexus and arguably one of the best cars ever made.
A fantastic car, buy one now while good ones are still out there. You can find these with under 100K miles for well under $20K.. A bargain for such a comfortable and reliable car with stunning good looks.
I respect the Sc series of cars. My uncle has a 1992, but it’s been sitting for years and the interior is all moldy from a water leak. The engine mounts are also rotted out, so the engine is just… sitting there
I just washed it for the last time of the season last night, and now it will sit in my garage until about mid-April. Currently sitting at 29,867 miles. If I keep driving it the way I have been, it will probably have about 45-50,000 miles on it in 10 years. Gotta drive it once in a while just to keep the suspension from binding up. Not to mention, it's just to fun to drive to just let it sit.
Dude! I know you're young man, but a 2000 Lexus diamond SC still shines and surpasses current day vehicles in many ways. I appreciate the video having owned a 96 SC300 and currently a 96 400. I'll give you a thumbs up on the video, but showing the repro video reflecting something from the period when camera recordings were somewhat poor in quality ain't what I remember in 2000, perhaps early 80's.
Supra w a 1UZ & no forced induction factory option and more weight with a focus on Japanese luxury vs the Supra which is less weight more balanced and Japanese sport oriented coupe’ that was made to compete with the Nissan Skyline, the Mitsubishi 3000GT and other Japanese BEASTS during the 90’s era The Supra was made to be BAD TO THE BONE the Lexus SC400 was made to be cool and smooth! Both coupes but with very different spirits!
@@6shot9 that's a good comparison, imagine a much more compact Tahoe or if you have ever driven an early 90s Cadillac Fleetwood a big cushiony over assisted steering system
Depending on the year, that's either a good deal or a great deal (assuming there are no defects / damage). If it was a '98 or newer, BUY IT; if you don't, let me know where it is!
Oh man…am watching I would buy it because its nice & simple low mileage too u can’t beat that especially with Toyota & Lexus reliability not too much competitors comes close
There's no comparison. Alone, the Lincoln was fine, but next to these? Nah...the Lincoln was trash. Everything about the Lexus SC was crafted and assembled better than the Lincoln.Though some can argue the Mark VIII was styled more interestingly or may have been quicker, on the whole, the Lincoln was a lesser car.
@@doug6191 have you driven or owned either?? I had a Mark VIII LSC (1998), and it was just as quiet as the SC400 but with a better sounding engine (with a bit more power too) and in Wedgewood Blue, a much prettier vehicle. The Lexus did have a better transmission and perceived quality, but I also didn’t have too many issues with my Mark.
@Robert Borne Driven both, and driven both an SC300 & SC400. Hands down, the Lexus was all-around better. Looking around the interior of the Mark VIIIs, it was pitiful. The damn radio was the same head unit as in a Ranger pickup. Things felt cheap and assembly was every bit the same as a Taurus. Not a compliment. After a few years, chrome was delaminating around the bumpers, front and rear. The headliner was starting to sag. The rattles...yeesh. But, hey, that V8 sounds good. The Mark VIII was nice to look at when it debuted. The refresh was nice, too. In the whole, the vehicle was subpar.
The Supra was based from this platform. After the sc300 debuted, the Supra was released. Supra uses same subframes from sc platform. Toyota rebadged this to release the Soarer as well. Difference there is Soarer got more tech and performance parts.
Toyota could have made it better if they gave it a 5.0 V12 320 HP option too, from the Toyota Century limo, and call it the SC500, and be a more affordable option to other luxury coupes like the Mercedes-Benz CL600, BMW 850Ci, Jaguar XJS V12 and tye Ferrari 456 GT,
These SC400s are money pit cars to own. I have a 1998 SC400 with 202k miles and I'm strongly considering junking the car. Something is breaking all the time.
I wanted to like this, I still do. But it's the bar of soap styling I can't get past, no matter how dynamically balanced it is. And, having driven other Lexus (Lexi?), I suspect it lacks soul. Now, the RC....
hmm, all these cars you test, might be trying to tell you something, that could improve your life in more ways than one, you may get through life with a smaller water bottle.

My first one was a '98 in the same red. I absolutely LOVED that car. I can't tell you how excited I was to have found this one. The white took a little while to grow on me, though.
Yes, it was filmed in Kenosha; good eye!
I hope you get years of enjoyment out of yours!
Just love how you keep the "Big Frigging Bottle" challenge despite cupholders were made for soda cans up to the 2000's.
I drive a 2005 solara v6!! Although not the same they are similar and designed by the same group. Id love to see a video on that car thanks
I had an '03 Solara SE a few years before I bought this one; absolutely loved that car. Man, I appreciate the designs of the CALTY team!
Love the car. True luxury. Love 1990s luxury cars
What an awesome anime Intro. High quality right there
In 2040 and even in 2046 these cars will still be on the roads. Trust me.
Wow …this classic is well clean 👍🏾😁😁
I've always wanted one of these, very nice example.
Thank you very much! They're still obtainable, but they might not be for long.
Love the 400 variants
This is one of my obtainable dream cars from Lexus. Though having a kid and wife, I may wanna go for an LS one day 😆
After owning both models, I say with confidence that an LS400 feels just about the same to own, drive, and maintain as an SC400.
The engine mounts are also rotted out, so the engine is just… sitting there
I could eat a grand slam breakfast on that engine bay, it's so clean.
While I appreciate the sentiment, as I am very proud of her... I'm throwing hands at the first person that attempts to put food anywhere in that car.
Such a beautiful car ❤️🔥
❤️ From 🇧🇩
Been waiting for this one 🔥🔥🔥
Had a 98 SC300. Regretted selling it. Smooth.
Damn that is SUPER nice
Thank you!
One might even say... Supra nice.
That car is a unicorn.
The owner should hang on to it and keep it garaged for another 10 years then sell it.
I love this car. And the price is still affordable, thank god. Hope it won't skyrocket while I put my shit together and buy one of these.
Is that Kenosha? Almost looks like the park where the AMC car show is held.
Yup, it is in Kenosha.
It appears to be filmed in Kenosha and the northern parts of Zion. The roads he was driving on look Illinois to me.
I cannot believe this is a RWD car. I had no idea Lexus made any of those that weren't "sports" cars. It's pretty much a Supra, I REALLY love it.
Supra w a 1UZ & no forced induction factory option and more weight with a focus on Japanese luxury vs the Supra which is less weight more balanced and Japanese sport oriented coupe’ that was made to compete with the Nissan Skyline, the Mitsubishi 3000GT and other Japanese BEASTS during the 90’s era
The Supra was made to be BAD TO THE BONE the Lexus SC400 was made to be cool and smooth! Both coupes but with very different spirits!
Id love to see a comparison between this and a 2V mustang
That's a really nice looking survivor!
Thank you!
I've ended up with a GS 300 and 2 SC's a 300 and 400 I drive a Chevy truck usually but as a repo agent I come across a lot cars and I love these
I’ve heard someone compare the steering to a Tahoe, your thoughts on that?
@@6shot9 that's a good comparison, imagine a much more compact Tahoe or if you have ever driven an early 90s Cadillac Fleetwood a big cushiony over assisted steering system
But definitely comfortable to drive and handles well
2025 and it looks amazing
finally! i own a 93 n been dying to see you review one
Gorgeous car Kevin!!
Thank you!!! She sure is!😁
It has atleast some usable trunk space. MK4 Supra is hopelessly useless when it comes to storage.
GS 300 285k miles running like a 🏆
The 1UZ can be loud but the 4 mufflers need to be removed
Don't try it in California today !
I want one of these so bad bro i saw a nice one with 50k miles for like 9k and i think its worth it
Depending on the year, that's either a good deal or a great deal (assuming there are no defects / damage). If it was a '98 or newer, BUY IT; if you don't, let me know where it is!
Same here let me know too
Great video, I love my sc430!
Oh man…am watching I would buy it because its nice & simple low mileage too u can’t beat that especially with Toyota & Lexus reliability not too much competitors comes close
Do simple maintenance on 'em, and a Lexus / Toyota will run forever. I was definitely happy to have scored this one with so few miles on it.
@@kevinjones6829 nice & it’s still outstanding 😁😁
If you're ever in the Baltimore area and want to film what the SC400 morphed into, you're welcome to review my 2006 SC430
A true sleeper in facebook marketplace
2024 ama make sure i have one this year
sound of the engine?
I would love to see a comparison between this and a Lincoln Mark VIII from the same year??
Missed opportunity not to mention that it's based on the same platform as the Supra. Very different vehicles, but still an interesting note.
The Supra was based from this platform. After the sc300 debuted, the Supra was released. Supra uses same subframes from sc platform. Toyota rebadged this to release the Soarer as well. Difference there is Soarer got more tech and performance parts.
Beautiful car.
Noti squadd 🔥🔥🔥
Toyota could have made it better if they gave it a 5.0 V12 320 HP option too, from the Toyota Century limo,
and call it the SC500,
and be a more affordable option to other luxury coupes like the Mercedes-Benz CL600, BMW 850Ci, Jaguar XJS V12 and tye Ferrari 456 GT,
Hi. Any chance this is for sale?
I don't currently have any plans to sell it.
Love a LExus
These SC400s are money pit cars to own. I have a 1998 SC400 with 202k miles and I'm strongly considering junking the car. Something is breaking all the time.
lexus s2000?
lexus made best cars in the world
ITs probably just the video but that pearl white looks like it doesnt match in a bunch of places
Is Kevin trying to sell it??
No, I am not. Gonna hang on to this one for a while.
250 or 290 hp? My LS430 doesn't make that amount. But that's clean car. Buy it. Lol
LS430 comes with the 4.3 V8 this is the 4.0 V8 1UZ that comes with 290 hp.
@@xBeeGeedamn near 300 from the factory, not bad
I have 86k on my 92 SC400
They only made 905 of the SC400’s in 99 mine has 130k
I wanted to like this, I still do. But it's the bar of soap styling I can't get past, no matter how dynamically balanced it is. And, having driven other Lexus (Lexi?), I suspect it lacks soul. Now, the RC....
This is the 2nd one I've owned. My previous one was a 98. Can't knock the RC, but as far as the SCs are concerned, I absolutely love 'em!
I like this more than the rc for the same reasons. This one’s subtle and elegant, the rc is just doing the most
Im watching it in 2024 😃
❤
91 best
Hot tall are you and is it a comfortable for someone who is 6’ tall
It’s fine if you lean your seat back a little
Fïnälly! Ï foünd ït! Hëllö fröm 2k46! Präïse bë tö Övërlörd Ümläüt! A^3
hmm, all these cars you test, might be trying to tell you something, that could improve your life in more ways than one, you may get through life with a smaller water bottle.
I'll never sell my GS 400
Cause it’ll run forever
Wow I've never heard of this car before! I hope they stay worthless forever so I can afford to buy one in 10 years!
for an under 30k mile car it has been repainted a lot...
NPC 🤣
Super fuken nice cars ❤❤❤
