Giuliani Calls de Blasio 'Ignorant'

NEW YORK (FOX5NY) - Ahead of the memorial service in Lower Manhattan on Friday for the victims of the September 11 terror attacks, former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani was asked about the state of the city today, including the homeless crisis. Giuliani responded with some strong words about current Mayor Bill de Blasio.
"There is much more homelessness today than in the last 20 years," said Giuliani.
'America's Mayor' penned an op-ed in the NY Post that slammed de Blasio's handling of the crisis. In response, de Blasio said that it was Giuliani who, under his administration, was responsible for a rise in homeless in the city.
"Here's how ignorant Mayor de Blasio is. He said that there were 40 percent more homeless people during my administration. The Times corrected him and said 32 percent. You know what the 32 percent is? There were 32 percent more people in shelters. The people in shelters, I'd like to inform the mayor, are not homeless. Of course, there were more people in shelters, because Mike Bloomberg and I got them off the streets. That 40 percent was the number that went up in shelters. How ignorant can you be to use that as a figure for homelessness. If the shelters went up, then there were less homeless," said Giuliani.
Giuliani added that he's experienced the homeless crisis at his doorstep, literally. A homeless man was caught urinating in front of Giuliani's home in Manhattan.
"I have people who come up to me and say I haven't seen this kind of homelessness in 20 years. I don't know that the mayor has a clue about what to do about it," said Giuliani.
