A totally serious interview with these two is rare. Since they are usually cracking jokes and spewing witty remarks it was refreshing and enlightening to see their more contemplative side. (Could it be because there wasn't a female interviewer?) Also thought that the discussion about how a performer goes from being on a high from audience approval to being backstage alone has the potential to mess up your mental health. They are both fortunate that they share this burden and can lean on each other if needed. Only "discovered" Michael and Alfie in the past year but now I am hooked. Stay well guys, and please keep doing what you love.
As a performer myself I totally get that bit about having a high from the audience and then the crash of being alone, and certainly not at the level that these guys are performing at or with the same quantity of audience, but that being said I've always found and certainly since having a family of my own that having that grounding behind me has helped me realise the high of the audience is great but getting home to my daughter will always beat it. And I can relate to Alfie alot more because of it, I think for Michael life on stage is all he's kind of ever known so for a proper working class person like myself and Alfie there's always gonna be that "Job" feeling about it.
I have known Michael Ball for a long time and love him. But kind of recently discovered Alfie Boe and his story. It has been a blessing and gift. These two guys are so real (and talented). Very refreshing in the show business world
This music helps you in some bad times. To me it is my drug that gets me through those times. I physically feel uplifting relaxation and a smile emerges on my face.
Thoroughly enjoyed the interview which I came across by accident. Big plus as I am a life long Michael Ball Fan. Obviously enjoy Alfie too when they appear together. Happy Christmas Guys.

Michael, if you weren't doing what you love to do - i.e - music - how do you know you would be 'miserable'? Surely you would find something else to do in order to banish 'the misery'? Approbation (yes, a good word!) can be achieved not only from adoring fans of your music but also from a multitude of facets such as helping to build shelters for the homeless; running an animal rescue centre etc etc. Fulfillment comes from knowing that you are helping to make the world a happier place and that doesn't necessarily come from creating beautiful music and feeding off the approval of others. One can be a 'giver' without the constant desire for recognition. In fact, giving 'anonymously' is a much more nutritious chicken soup for the soul. That said, I hope you never stop doing what you obviously love to do. You were gifted with a wonderful voice (and spirit) for a purpose so your music needs to be heard. The approval comes by default!
