One of the best videos on how to do this job, clear and to the point. I really appreciate you're speaking at a normal conversation pace and not in the ridiculously-slow confusing way like everyone else.
Thanks for this easy-to-follow guide! The only problem I ran into was needing a better impact wrench. I really appreciate that you didn't need to share a 15 minute backstory with us.
Great video, from the comment section, it seems my 2007 which has a bad vibration under load/accelerating at 50+mph will be cured finally! I've spent countless hours trying new things, replacing all my mounts, tires, etc...it is relieving and infuriating to know that it's going to be less than $100 to replace this part myself. Thanks for showing us how to remove it without disconnecting the strut as well!
Good video! Very helpful! Thanks....also for those out there with a vibration issue with a CRV mine is 2011 model, vibration and shimmy feel inside car can be a symptom of bad half shafts/axles...especially when under load or climbing an incline and around 20 to 40 MPH...I dont know exactly why but change the passenger side first...it is more often the bad half shaft of the 2....might have to do with the way it mounts onto the short jack shaft but not really for sure...you might feel like you have a transmission shudder when this vibration happens...save yourself some money and replace the axles first..that is cheaper and it might fix your problem! I used cheaper new axles to find out for sure axles were the culprit so it certainly a cheaper way to diagnose....
very well done. Enjoyed this video. My 2008 Honda CRV has a bad driver side front cv join/axle. It vibrates quite a lot when I am going from 50 - 60 mph. Time to get er fixed! right?
Thank you again, your videos are always well done and extremely helpful. I had an inquiry if I may, when torquing the drive axle nut. Given us diyer's. Do you see a problem with using a screw driver in the vanes of the rotor, to allow torquing of the axle nut while the car is in the air on jack stands.
Great video Brian! If I just wanted to remove/replace the lower control arm, should I loosen the axle nut to avoid pulling the cv shaft out of its joint or from the transmission?
Hello, what was the reason to change both cv joints ? was the driver feeling some vibrations in the car when the driver was strongly accelerating/big load and middle speed ? or did you notice some important play on the joints that tells you : it time to change me ? i'm asking you that because i have both problem i mentioned but i can't be sure it's the cv joint or the bearing holding it in the gearbox that allow my excessive play. Hope my English was clear enough :) Keep working like that. I like your way, fast but paying attention to the right details. Arthur S
I have a 2010 CRV Front wheel drive and I'm getting a serious vibration-shudder during acceleration at 50km/h and 90km/h speed range. The mechanics that have checked my car cannot see anything wrong with it and want to replace both drive shafts. For both parts + labour + alignment its going to cost $790.00 CDN I remember hitting a curb while taking a turn at 60km/h about a month ago but these symptoms were not noticed right afterwards. A tire shop said it wasn't my wheels and that it's more likely a mechanical component.
What about the inner piece of the passenger side axle? I have a seal leak on the passenger side transmission seal where the inner axle piece goes into the trans. Any help here?
What's not mentioned here is the ABS tone ring. Most replacement axle assemblies do NOT come with the ABS ring. I'm doing this job tomorrow on a 2010 CR-V. Replacement axles from RockAuto (Cardone) do not have the ring.
I know its a few months past your question but here is another way to tell. I am a DIY honda person and have been for many years...owned many hondas...I can tell you that clicking while turning is certainly a symptom...but also vibration/shimmy/shudder inside of car is too, especially when car is under load as when climbing an incline...usually around 20 to 40 mph...my 2011 crv was caused by passenger side front half shaft/axle being bad...grinding is also a symptom but vibration is prob more common...had only 112k on this crv.
Awesome I'm from Colorado and here is way to expensive and because I'm mobile people call me more often ,bad mechanics in Colorado ,guy like you here you won't have a life ! Way to much work here
Pwanlass It would be about an hour and a half labor so depending on what the shops in your area charge for labor rates 150 give or take plus the price of the axle.

My Wifu and I watched the whole thing.

2011 Honda CRV
It is our first car we bought together ❤
That’s awesome hopefully everything goes nice and smooth.

steve sabd Glad the video helped out. Thank you so much for watching in the tips!
Thank you!
Hi Steve, have the same exact vibration from 20-40 on my 2011 as well
Thank you very much for posting this, I bet this is my issue as well.
@@Oliver-xe3wn they can grind on bumps and yes they can clunk on bumps. That could also be a bad strut...
Thank you for this insightful tutorial. It took me several crying fits to not even get the centre nut off.
I'm based in the U.K. and have just watched your video. It has helped greatly: many thanks!
Thank you for post. Looks super easy and all step by step to the point. This is really helpful for DIYer's looking to save some money. Thanks again.
Excellent video, thank you for the clarity and key points! Made this job an easy preparation
Excellent video - concise, clear, quick, very helpful!
Most amazing video I ever watched on car repair. Had to subscribe!!
Some people got it and some don't you my friend definitely got it!!!!
Nice trick on hitting the axle in👌
Hector Rocha thank you!
Is using red threadlocker such a good idea? Ever had any problems with a car you worked on coming back in, having to remove those same bolts?
Probably best to use blue threadlocker.
Nice. Awesome job. One of the best explanations out there

gsleve using the screwdriver may cause it to bend and give it in accurate Torque work but if that’s what you Gotta do you it’s best then not Torque it
Great video Brian! If I just wanted to remove/replace the lower control arm, should I loosen the axle nut to avoid pulling the cv shaft out of its joint or from the transmission?
Nathaniel D. Hello.Should be OK leaving the axle nut on in tight. That lower control arm swings down very easily.
No
For the rear nut in the AWD models, is the nut size the same ? Torque specs the same ? Love your videos 👍
Good video, I really love it. Do you need to drain off the ATF fluid before that procedure?
No
Perfect explanations and visuals

I believe it is the same process.
Some cars have a locking pin. But I believe Honda's dont do that so all cv replacement should be straight forward
Hi, I see you did not replace the shaft seals, is it not necessary to replace them when replacing cv axles?
Thanks in advance!
You can but it depends on the wear and tear of the vehicle. If you see leakage, go ahead and replace it. Otherwise, I wouldnt'

Do these same axel set fit the Japanese model?
Thank you! Honda is quoting me 1900 to replace the front axles. It is ok to use aftermarket axles, or should we only use OEM?
Jason D i’ve had good and bad luck with aftermarket axle so it’s taking a chance.

What brand axle shafts did you use? I've heard that the big-box auto parts store brands are not reliable.

what do you recommend brian 6 point axle sockets or 12 point as a first buy ?
charles philippe I would recommend a six point it's a stronger socket better grip. There are a few cars out there that require 12 point though.
Thanks..:)
Do you need to drain the transmission fluid to do this job?
No.
So wtf did you do to get rid of that dent in the axle but?
What was wrong with the old axles?
Cool info and video
Thank you!
is this the same set up as the 2012 crv?
Josh Hans It’s going to be very similar maybe a few small changes.
Did you loose any transmission fluid?
Sir Sweetness no I did not lose any fluids on this job.
Very good
can this be done without a lift? Anyone?
Shawn Waldrop Not easy but yes it can.
What was the complaint? My mothers car has a shake on acceleration, that’s why I ask
I don’t remember the complaint on this one. But vibration on acceleration is common with bad axles or engine mounts
When i slow down or in a jam my crv vibrates n i have change all the mounts
