- In this brand new series, The Part Timer, we will send a TSL personality to become a part time worker at a surprise location! Who is next? Where is it next? What to do next?
To kickstart this, we decided to send our producer Amanda to her favorite doughnut place Krispy Kreme to work part time for a day! She gets to try freshly made Original Glaze doughnuts, the glaze on its own, and many more! She might have eaten more doughnuts than what she sold...

OMG Amanda is so funny! I couldn't stop laughing! But her demeanor changed once she had to sell the donuts lol! Kudos to these people who are facing the customers. When they said "pleasing personality", you really need to know how to interact and make yourself look approachable so you can sell the product. I probably would be freeze up in front of people.

It’s sad that the rejects are dumped by KK without any consideration of giving them away to those without food. Amanda, at least you saved and enjoyed some. 😕
I know not everybody can get free stuffs, but at the very least give any reject food products to the staffs after their duty if you are adamant on giving any rejects for food donations

I worked in kfc before when I was in sec school, my brother too, but he worked a few years before me. During his time, all the staff can bring fried chicken home. Then when it’s was my time, they don’t allow because they scare the cooks might purposely fried more than we need so that they can bring home. In this case, I think KK afraid that the staff might purposely wreck the donuts so that they can bring home. Just my guess lar.
It's basically same for almost every fast food chains in the world. It's riskier for them to donate those food as it may pose as a food safety issue.
Exactly, and the staff only get 2 pathetic donuts.
Would be good if the chosen part-timer is doing what they share an interest in/their dream job! Think it’ll be nice hearing their views after having tried it. ☺️

I actually recently have a part-time job at Krispy Kreme and even though I don't work at the factory ,I have to sell donuts at Krispy Kreme.Being Introverted and having social anxiety just makes me panic a lot and I got scolded a lot for it since I am also inexperienced and a slow learner so I really appreciate the amount of effort it takes to set everything up ,having to constantly do the greeting in a happy tone no matter how tired one feel or sometime have to deal with difficult customers
I don’t even know they greet happy doughnuts! I have never been greeted happy doughnuts before!!!!
Bought so many times at different outlets, nv once was I greeted with that phrase too😂

I worked part time at a food factory b4. Nothing new… lots of food being thrown away for not being up to standards. Consumers don’t like to buy imperfect food so sadly it’s created an industry standard when making food. The factory I worked at threw away a lot of bread day in and day out. At first i thought it was such a waste but the workers there said it’s a matter of throwing it in the morning or at night during closing hha
@@hamburger_milkshake1585 Sad that lots of food wastage, do these bakeshops practice price dropping of products one to two hours before closing time? or like have the staffs take any left over breads with them after closing? Because I know products like donuts and breads can last by the next day and still be ok, as long as you store them properly. But as a chef, it really pains me when there are unnecessary food wastage that is happening.
@@rdu239 yea some bakeries like breadtalk will sell discounted. but not all. maybe different company policy?
but me, as someone who work in f&b for quite long, and my family too, sometimes u bring home the same food everyday, after a few months u will not want anymore haha.
my sister used to work at a cake shop. at first she also excited to bring back. 1 month later she sian. every day same. Haha.
for things like fresh food, donut and bread, etc, very hard to store them and not become stale the next day.
the restaurant would rather throw away food than have 1) people complain of food poisoning from overnight food (it is possible)
and 2) their reputation will become tarnish because people will think "they sell overnight stale food".
Perfectly edible donuts are being thrown but we are buying them at $2.60....
Just make amanda the perm parttimer for this new series...

the amt of food wastage doesn’t sit right with me. imagine that many donuts get thrown away everyday just because it doesn’t look good. is it not possible to donate the rejects Krispy Kreme?
Hello! As far as I’m aware, this is actually quite common in food factories. If the product doesn’t look good, it may not sell in stores and stores will end up throwing it away in the end. Even if they do donate it, not all charity organizations accept all donations of perishables. It’s sort of an industry standard. But I do agree that as consumers, if the product doesn’t look perfect we should still accept it if it’s edible :) - A

@@TheSmartLocal I believe on select type of food can be donated for charity, not sure about Krispy Kreme's recipe but donuts whether its the yeast or cake type can last up to the next day (up until noon) if stored properly, its just saddening when I see unnecessary food wastage and reject due to it looking not "aesthetically pleasing". I mean, its prepared properly, cooked and completely edible; just turned out ugly looking. I hope they just give out any food rejects within that day to their staffs if they are adamant of just donating it or selling it at a discount before their closing time.

@@hamburger_milkshake1585 there will be ppl still buy the "perfect looking" dougnuts..eg like birthdays.....lookin at bakery shops, they will gv discounted price in the late evenings...there are ppl who are less fortunate who will keep a lookout for free or discounted food...theres different types of target market.
Like branded bags, ppl will still buy in boutiques and factory outlets..
Imagine the joy and happiness for the less fortunate to be receiving doughnuts..sharing is caring🍩🍩😍

people always pick the nice looking ones and avoid the ones with blemishes although they r edible.. so end up also throw away at the end. :'(
and everytime im at supermarket only a select few ppl will buy those branded 'ugly veggie' on sale 😂 society is like this, i think for this, it starts with the consumers first!
actually im not sure about singapore but for some countries, it's actually illegal to give leftover unsold food at end of the day.
some homeless pple actually anyhow sue companies say they felt unwell after eating the leftovers!
so i can understand why companies have to throw away food sometimes. :(
