Mine is a 15. My blood work and iron was " normal" and I kept telling my doctors I didn't feel well. They would say I was depressed or needed to lose weight. I finally found a Dr that cares and is helping me!
I had some female issues for a few years and I lost alot of blood. My G.P told me my iron and bloodwork was normal and that I was depressed and needed to lose weight. Took a natural path dr and a sleep specialist to dig deeper and find that myvferratin was low. I'm on iron pills now amd hope it works! Previous to this I had been taking iron supplements 2 x a day so I don't know why it's still this low
There's new research that was recently published showing that low ferritin is associated with increased depression (and anxiety). So even if your doc thought you were depressed, they should no longer assume that it's pure depression. A lot of GPs are extremely dismissive of ferritin levels to begin with, so they probably will not stay updated on it-- but you can at least keep that bit of wisdom in your back pocket.
I’ve recently discovered my Ferritin levels are at 45 after years of feeling extremely exhausted, brain fog, feeling of brain inflammation, oxygen deprivation…Started taking iron supplements myself as doctors blindsided the recommendation for iron supplementation…Can’t believe the difference within days, head is clear, oxygen levels a lot better, feel more energy…
That's a good start, but if you did not fix why you are low in the first place, you will still have the same problems. No amount of pills will ever get to the root cause and fix the actual problem. Addressing the underlying systems is the KEY! If you need support, email me @ f8support@f8wellcenters.com
Dating back to 2016 I have had low ferritin anywhere from 12-18. Over those years I would eat or drink anything and feel lightheaded afterwards. Been to the ER countless times due to thinking I was going to pass out and after doing a full body CT scan with contrast everything was normal. I am 59 years of age now and was always told that as long as my TIBC test and hemoglobin was fine it was nothing to worry about. Well, that turned out to be horribly wrong. So, one day I woke up and was literally bouncing off the walls dizzy and I thought it would be a good time to run some labs. So I went to Quest and did a TIBC test and ferritin, CBC and CMP. My total saturation was 9 in a range of 20-50% and my total serum iron as 38 in a range of 50-158. My ferritin was at 13 and my hemoglobin was at 16.2 with red blood cells at 5.85 which is on the high end of the range. I have always had higher than average male hemoglobin and RBC count. Never overweight, no sleep apnea, no high blood pressure, no diabetes, worked out all my life and in perfect health according to countless docs I consulted with over the years. So, anyways, I decided to take some iron made by Vitron-C which is 65mg and I am telling you within hours the dizziness was significantly better. Now I take one 65mg tablet every other day and it's been almost 3 weeks and I feel about 80% better. So, why do I have low iron? Turns out I have H Pylori and it survives off of YOUR iron and it lowers stomach acid so you can't absorb iron and other nutrients including protein. So, I am doing a natural protocol for the H Pylori and so far so good. The diagnosis? Iron deficiency WITHOUT anemia. It is one of the most under diagnosed medical ailments because doctors mainly look at TIBC and hemoglobin and if that is fine, then they send you on your way. In my case I suffered the last 8+ years with feeling like crap. Based on my research a lot of experts are saying that you won't feel your best unless you have a minimum ferritin of 100. I will wait a few weeks and test again. Great video!
How are you now? I guess you as a man had even more difficulties regarding iron deficiency. In my case I had ferritin at 9 in May but my hb was at 12.5 later a 14. But my doctor only gave me pills which I couldn't handle and had stomachache. After two and a half months of breathing issues and heart racing I had enough and had a bad argument with my doctor. I had two infusions of Venofer which I had to pay. Here in Germany you only get them paid if hb is to low. But last Friday my blood result was a ferritin of 105!!! I feel already better. No breathing issues anymore. Heart racing is not perfect but I wasn't active the last months at all so that's my new steps. It's unbelievable how alone you feel when you got told you're totally healthy with your 39 years but you feel like a grandmother. I'm still investigating but my diet was bad regarding iron deficiency. Heavy periods and donating blood regularly the last 3 years wasn't a good thing in my case... lessons learned. 😊
@@ireefree2024 I don’t want to burst your bubble, but right after iron infusions the ferritin levels are often high. Wait a month or more, then test. Mine was high after iron infusions, then dropped lower than it was before. I do feel better months after, but I am still anemic.
@@sonofhibbs4425 I'm aware that it will drop probably. My blood will be tested tomorrow again and so on. But if it drops lower then before then some investigation is necessary. It means bleeding somewhere really bad otherwise it's not explainable.
Sir im 41 years old male i can relate to everything you said. My first time testing ferritin was a week ago, it was 12. I’ve suffered with a low ferritin for about 4 years now not knowing what heck is wrong with me finally found out. It’s great to hear that a iron supplement will help and just bought some. Thank you this gives me a second chance at life!
@@benbeethovensupplementation is not enough, in men low ferritin is most likely tied to some underlying health issue so it's important to find out the root cause.
This video is so helpful. Thank you so much. My ferritin is 30 and my doc said is in range!! I was felling so dizzy and weak, felt like i can fall seating and crazy heart beat. I do have indigestion, low stomach acid so i know my body wasn't absorbing. As soon as i started taking liquid iron, now on empty stomach i felt better, i felt sparkles of energy. I even sleep less :))
@@f8wellcenters Thank you for responding. Do you know what could be reason? Im going to the doc to day but i already know she won't know whats going on :(
@@ivonnasercuchowa1361 Bad teeth can eat up ferretin and digestiv issues can also eat up ferretin. If you loose blood through the gut. I will have to remove my last wisdom teeth, it was alright for years, but it started to be bad recently and my doctor needs to check my stool.
Thanks for this. Waiting for a follow up with my doctor, but my recent labs came back with ferritin of 5, low iron, normal hemoglobin. I do have very heavy but not long periods. We are working on that, but good to know I likely need to work on absorption/gut issues. And gives me something else to discuss at my follow up.
I'm 27 weeks pregnant and my ferritin is a 3! I am SO tired , tired muscles and easily out of breath. I'm going to get an iron infusion and get extra iron through food and supplementation (bisglycinate) to hopefully have it at a reasonable level by birth.
Mostly past menstrual periods. Had bilateral pulmonary embolism. Sent to hematologist. She did say I need iron infusion but kappa lamda light chains are not same. Haven’t talked about that yet
My ferritin is 777 as a 61-year-old male. Seeing a doctor on 3 Jan 24 to discuss the results and what to do next. This seems related to high sugar levels and cholesterol (sugar 7 - 7 and cholesterol 6.9) I'm not overweight (166 lbs) but doing meal portion control to reduce weight to 161 lbs.
Wow!!! That's extremely high! You should definitely get that checked ✔️ I hope you're able to reduce it significantly. Most people's Ferritin Levels are between 0 to 30...We're struggling to go up to 💯 for Optimal Health Levels.
Just had a full blood analysis test; No viruses, no immune problems, and low risk of liver scarring. So far so good, just waiting for genetic test results for hemochromatosis. I don't drink a lot and am not massively overweight (maybe 7lbs) I walk a Doberman twice every day and use an elliptical cross-trainer. I practice Ashtanga yoga when to dog hasn't wrenched my shoulder..
Wish you were my doctor! I’ve suffered for 3 damn years ferttin was 11 cold feet, dizzy, high heart rate, heart palpitations , the worst I started getting horrible anxiety attacks, panic attacks, after having to beg doctor for months for infusions I got 5 I felt human again! Well now 2024 cold feet, leg cramps, hair loss, and lovely anxiety and panic attacks are back sure enough ferttin is 21! I’m miserable and dr won’t give me infusions!
41 (M) The blood work I had last week showed my ferritin was 826. Glucose was 88. Lipids, TSH, metabolic, A1C, and CBC were in range, except hematocrit at 50.7. I've been chasing a series of problems. I have Chronic Migraine with aura which I've had for 20 years, which comes with some gnarly prodromes, it's also treated and managed. My other symptoms are fatigue, joint problems, anxiety, sore tired muscles, feeling hungover without drinking. Sleep study was done for apnea and ruled out. Over twenty years I've been between 140 pounds and 215. My weight and fitness level has had no impact on my symptoms. I did have an ANA screen. IFA came back positive. ANA Tter was 1:40. ANA pattern was nuclear, Homogeneous. Not sure what that means, Doc said it means some inflammation. I'm currently being tested for HFE gene. Likely c282y. I wondered what you though about these results.
I’m sure that can feel overwhelming but if you get to the root cause of what is truly going on there is hope. If you need support, email me at f8support@f8wellcenters.com. You can also connect @ meetwithdrben.com
Mine is single digits but hemoglobin is still hanging on the very bottom of the normal range. My provider actually ordered tests for celiac, H pylori, scopes from both ends with biopsies. They actually are taking the time to find the cause instead of just assuming because of my age and gender.
I have a great GP she had been monitoring my iron and ferritin levels throughout the past year since she diagnosed me with thyroid cancer. When they discovered liver lesions (unrelated to my thyroid cancer) I had to get off the birth control pill. Because of adenomyosis I haven’t stopped bleeding and I have severe endometriosis as well, which has spread to my bowel causing more bleeding from my bowels too. This led to my ferritin levels plummeting from 98 to 11 in a matter of months and she made me go get an iron infusion.
My Ferratin’s at 24 and has gone from 140, 115, 98 to 24 in just over 2 years. Iron within normal range. No bad symptoms - had bloodwork done as the afternoon I was a bit tired but put it down to hypothyroidism hence having full bloodwork done!
My ferritin was 4. Now its like 50. I had developed adenomysosis resulting in needing partial hysterectomy. Following the hyster, i rec’d 3 iron infusions. My iron always showed within normal numbers but my ferritin was taking all my life out of me. My local ER wouldnt check ferritin so be sure you see someone willing to look at ferritin!
My 5 year old son’s Ferritin was 13. The dr put him on iron liquid drops. He just recently had another set of bloodwork where his Ferritin has dropped to 7, iron is normal. Also his TSH, Hemoglobin, MCV and MCH is high. His doctor said that he’s not sure what’s going on and that he needs to go to an hematologist. Also a year ago found an enlarged lymph node in his neck. Started out as 2, his last ultrasound showed multiple in levels 1,2,4,5 of his neck.
I would definitely recommend addressing the root cause. We help patients of all ages get the answers they need. I'd love to help him too! email us at: f8support@f8wellcenters.com
I’m going thru this right now! Thanks algorithm for bringing this video to me! I have been begging for more tests why won’t my doctor order more tests ???
High ferritin levels can be due to genetics like alpha thalassemia. If it is alpha thalassemia minor, there is little known fact that non-heme iron is absorbed differently from heme iron. By switching to a pescatarian diet and limiting to 10 oz of fish per week, there is possibility that your ferritin levels will normalize over several years. Hematologist can monitor your ferritin levels.
This was SO helpful!! I have been trying to find out what’s wrong with me for the last year!! I finally got into an oncologist recently and got my blood work back but waiting for my follow up appointment next week. I have been feeling sick for 4 years now!! I didn’t have insurance but I lost my job and moved in with my mom and started to focus on my health. I didn’t expect it to take so long and to have to go many doctors! I have chronic fatigue and brain really bad and I know this is why I lost my job made me really start to take things more serious. My iron is 185 Saturation is high at 50 FERRITIN 26 IRON BINDING CAPACITY 373 I do take prenatal vitamins but it’s obvious my body is not absorbing it. I did stop taking them because of my saturation… not sure if that’s a good thing or bad 😅 Any hoot things for the video 🎉❤
Just found out my ferritin is 25. I was having hair loss and unexplained anxiety/ heart palpitations. Trying to get to root cause, i had been supplementing both zinc and turmeric daily for the past at least 2 years. I think that's what depleted my stores. I've quit both those supplements and am dosing iron with vitamin c daily
Taking iron will not fix why you are low in the first place. If you need support figuring out what is truly going on in your body, email me @ f8support@f8wellcenters.com
High iron has the same symptoms of anemia. Get an iron panel done. You might have iron overload disorder like hereditary Hemochromatosis or it can be from a supplement with iron.
How do we know that the optimal ferritin range for women is lower than that for men? Shouldn't it be higher, since women need more iron in storage in order to safely lose iron every month? It just doesn't make sense to me. Are there studies on this topic that I can read? I'm curious to learn more. I sometimes get the feeling that scientists just discover something about men, and then extrapolate that it should be a little bit lower for women, based on body mass. But does that really make sense in every context? Side note; did you know that in most mosquito species only the females drink blood? The males drink plant sap. Females need more iron than the males because they lay so many eggs, they would quickly become depleted without a good source of animal protein and nutrients. Obviously humans are not mosquitoes, but even so, I feel that females of any species require more nutrient storage than the males. If anyone knows of the relevant studies, please let me know.
I don't know if it's a different unit of measurement but here ferritin for women should be between 15-120. Mine is at 12 and I've been on iron supplements for six months, and after I went to the doctor she didn't even believe my ferritin, at 12µg/L, was low. But I've seen so many stories of people with similar numbers, and I even went to the ER this weekend where another doc said my ferritin was basically empty and I should ask my doc for an iron infusion referral. But how can I even get her to help me at all when she doesn't even believe there's a problem?? Please help!
Hopefully you see this but have you taken your iron supplement with vitamin c? It helps with absorption. Also, don't take your iron around the same time as tea, coffee, dairy as it cancels out the effects. Also, I use MegaFood Blood Builder. It's been the only supplement in years to get me out of anemia
I don't think his numbers are correct...I've seen women's "normal" scales always around 13-150... His number of 40-125 is wrong. His numbers for men is unbelievably wrong. He says 40-150.... The real numbers are more like 30-350... I'd listen to your doctor.
Because I was taking Ferrous Sulphate 200s 3 times a week, and 1,000 milligrams of Vitamin C, daily, my Ferritin went up to 2,200! I had savage "palpitations" and other very nervy, twitchy symptoms. I had made no connection until I heard about the Ferritin count. I Googled Ferritin and Vitamin C and had my answer within 2 minutes. I stopped the Vitamin C, instantly. EIGHT...days later, my "everything bad" vanished and the bad nervous stuff never came back. Now, when I take Ferrous Sulphate, I'll be taking only small doses of Vitamin C. I've learned my lesson, for sure!
@@snowps1 Iron defiiciency anaemia. I was dropped to taking 1 iron a week and, in my opinion, that is too low. So, I'm going to start to "self-medicate", taking the Ferrous Sulphate up to 3 a week, adding medium doses of Vitamin C. My prescribed Ferrous Sulphate is identical to that which can be bought at a pharmacist's shop, so it's not like I'm going to run out. I've years of supply that I can rely on, and just buy more as the need arises. It takes a month or two to begin working properly, but I'll know that I'm getting better, and the Ferrous Sulphate had a great effect on me, last time around - especially in thinking/emotion.
@@sweethome4175 No. Not fine...not yet, at least. A blood test done in the last few weeks shows my ferritin to be 1,300, down by around 900. Another blood will be done, soon, to check for the haemochromatosis gene (an 8 weeks wait). Prior to this series of high readings, it hovered around 200--350. I confess, however, that I've done NO...exercise since September of 2019, and I'm pretty sure that there is a connection.
That's way too high. It can show all the same symptoms as too low ferritin. But if you store as you do too much iron it can destroy your organs. You need to investigate what's going on. As written here by bonny it could be that illness or another issue. In the worst case unfortunately even cancer.
I have adenomyosis and my ferritin is 24. Feel so tired and helpless. Haematologist said it's due to excessive blood loss. Been on iron supplements for 4 over 6 months
@@BallisticBrunette I know... even typing that comment..I honestly didn't have the energy to articulate everything. All the articles I come across.. is on reducing ferratin levels.. I don't know what to do to increase. Hematologist said to eat well. I have no strength to exercise or walk. Hoping someone will have something on increasing ferritin. All the best to you.
See you are in Brentwood, TN! I used to live there! So, I have an excellent iron panel, normal hemoglobin, normal Copper level, good Vitamin Bs, all normal labs, normal Thyroid, liver and kidneys are great, but Ferritin is 24. I've not been "feeling well" but doctor says all is normal . I'm having stomach issues, freezing cold hands and feet, heart palpitations, leg cramps, bitter taste in my mouth, acid reflux, low energy when exercising, etc. I'm a 60 yr old female, great shape, great BP, no meds, not overweight, excellent cholesterol levels. Gastroenterologist has no recommendations. I'm at a loss..
@vickywinifred3287 what??? My hematologist said that's way too low even though my iron and hemoglobin are fine. He ordered infusions but Im waiting on insurance. You should find a hematologist and get another opinion. My doctor did not want to do anything, but I insisted.
My ferritin is high, but I have normal glucose levels, my liver function is good, all other information markers are low, I’ve been intermittent fasting and doing 2-3 day fasts every month since January when I found out I have early endometrial cancer. Bloodwork is great except I have high ferritin levels and low testosterone and either low or high mvc. My ND is unsure why. I’m not pre diabetic ….so we will be doing an iron check next.
My ferritin level popped up from 99 to 160 this year. I never even registered ferritin as a thing before, except my husband's was low once, but he had to ask for it to be tested. I actually like to get to the why of things, so appreciated this video, but also am starting to feel overwhelmed. I do have Hashimotos. I was just diagnosed with very severe osteoporosis last year. Up until last year, every other blood test--aside from thyroid--was normal. Last year it was like all hell broke loose. I was 61-62, had been active, struggled with weight but was keeping it within the "healthy BMI" range. I knew diabetes and other issues were associated with Hashimotos--from the internet, no doctor ever told me--but I still thought I was doing the right things to keep it at bay. Currently, based on labs, it IS still...at bay, but my HbA1c is creeping up. Started seeing a naturopath last year--she told me about that. I had no idea what HbA1c was; I just looked at my blood glucose. So I made a lot of changes this last year. Dietarily, I was interested in improving absorption, and I think I made some headway there if my Vit D level is anything to go by. And it's possible there has been some benefit to my bones, but it'll take time to know for sure. (It doesn't appear they're any worse, anyway.) But I was very surprised to see a couple of these markers had changed quite a bit. Ferritin was one (last year my iron had been slightly high, now it's high but within range.) The other was eGFR. It went from 68 to 54. ALT, AST, bilirubin, creatinine, MPV, hematocrit, all in the high range now--not crazy high, but still not what I wanted to see. The naturopath is doing her best, I think, but I'm pretty sure this was not what she was expecting to see. Oh, and my TSH was high, again. (It had been high last August, too; endo raised my levo dose, but it didn't hold for very long.) It seems clear that inflammation of some sort is running amok. I don't know what else to do. I'm trying to avoid drugs, but--aside from the diuretic I accepted because oh yeah, my urine calcium is high (not so bad in blood,) and the Reclast they want me to take but which I'm holding off on because I have decades to take drugs and I don't want to make things worse, I doubt there's much a doctor could/would say...oh, fortunately my hs.CRP is low (if that's meaningful,) so I guess I don't need a statin (which I'd refuse anyway.) But it's hard to know what to eat...do I eat animal protein for my bones, or avoid it for my kidneys? I'm already not doing NSAIDs (they weren't helping pain anyway.) I heard someone say don't lift weights, (I don't think my numbers are high enough to warrant THAT,) but I'm supposed to be working toward "lifting heavy" for the bones. (I've already had multiple fractures, so this is not a straightforward proposition either--there's just a lot I have to be very careful of.) I'm eating very little sugar, am mostly off gluten and grains generally (I just eat less if I don't have too many starchy carb options.) I barely ever drink and when I do it's like a lite beer or 3 oz of red wine. Honestly, the prospect of having to give up salt and fruit...my last pleasures...is enough to kill my appetite altogether. I never was into fast food, we hardly ever go out, and when we do, we're very dull. I can't quite imagine tracking my blood sugar 24/7, or what I'd do if it did prove to be all over the map. Just...processing. 😂
Do you know high vitamin d should solve most of your problems It boosts immunity Lowers thyroid antibodies Increases all organ health Increases glucose absorption
Okay let me solve it Hypothyrodism = all body turned off (partially) So diabetes is not actually diabetes rather than your cells refusing to absorb cuz they're "lazy" & sluggish -Sluggish Heart And circulation(skin and nail and hair representitive) -Brain problems (Brain fog. depression. Adhd) -muscle and bone building & rejuvinating (growth) problems -GI slow both in motility And cell regrowth -neaural problems -adrenal cortisol problems You're saying you've been active... I say you're manually circualiting blood to seek a relieve. I've the same problem and solved it Thanks to Allah helped me
My ferritin is 403ug/l, iron 146ug/dl, hemoglobine 16.6g/dl, triglycerides 54mg/dl, glucose 97mg/dl but all other things are normal. Doctor didn't even mention this.
My ferritin is 9 and my dr said I was barely below normal, which was strange since she’s usually great with being on the ball. My absorption number was great, my colonoscopy was fine, I did have 2 cycles last month…but I almost passed out several times, dizzy, brain fog, exhausted, chest pains…I was intermittent fasting kinda hard for 3-4 months, not much iron. I’m on supplements every other day now.
I have something crazy going on with my iron/ferritin. My doctor does not have a handle on it, nor is he very progressive. My ferritin is 30 but my iron is 268! It seems I have a high iron saturation, but a low ferritin. My doctor would like to see my ferritin around 70? That's what he tells me all the time he has suggested infusions I take an iron supplement. But it seems I have tons of free floating iron that's not converting to ferritin.
I have the same issue. Low ferritin and high iron and doctor doesn't want me to go on iron because he says that's more dangerous than the low ferritin. Idk what to do
I was later diagnosed with the MHTHR gene. Basically, I am not able to convert the free iron in my blood into ferritin. I now take methylated folate, I avoid as many foods as possible that have folic acid in them. Also take a methylated vitamins, which helps convert free iron into ferritin.
40 is not super low for a female and the numbers should properly be closer to 70 to about $150. For a male it is 70 to at least 200. 300 is not out of the ordinary. Couple of years ago, I was having some surgical work done and they were having trouble keeping my iron high enough to do the surgery. When they check my ferritin levels, they called in a hematologist and actually sent me over to Ann Arbor Michigan to the VA there. They found my ferritin levels were 1.5. The doctor immediately quipped that she had never seen a living human being with ferritin levels lower than right around 29. Just say that there was an issue, is an understatement, I've been trying to raise my ferritin levels, but after having changed my diet a little bit to eat healthier, at least I thought so, and the fact that I do have hht as my grandfather was a fifth person ever diagnosed with that illness. It has been difficult. I have recently raised my eating habits to include more rare red meat, and adjusted some of my supplement intake to avoid things that reduce iron absorption, or cause problems to kidneys which I've also had issues with. They are doing okay and they're getting better, but I have to remember not to take large doses of vitamin C. Large doses of Vitamin C can destroy your kidneys at least depending on what supplement form it is in. Iron is a very important element, and your ferritin levels can cause many other side effects like depression hair loss, at the numbers you are quoting, hair loss and dizziness and fatigue as well as overall malaise, can set in. Please change those numbers you're talking about because they are critically low.
More information on Hemochromatosis (Haemochromatosis in other parts of the world) would be appreciated. My ferritin was well into the thousands which finally lead to my Genetic Haemochromatosis diagnosis by way of genetic testing.

Ferritin is 1797 ng/ml tested for hemochromatosis it was negative . Leukemia survivor . Pushed my doctor for bone marrow biopsy. Waiting on results. He doesn’t seem to concerned. Your thoughts
I'm having elevated ferritine levels since i was 21 (about 450). Now 42 years old and it stays around 700 to 900 with sometimes shootouts to 1200-1400! Bloodcheck every 3 months for the last two years and everything is normal with exception of cholesterol ... Doctor keeps saying, lets wait and see?! Feeling so tired the last couple of years...
Mine is always high, really high, and no doctor ever says anything about it. I don’t understand why they test it. Last time it was 432 ng/ml. Usually in the 200-300s. So I didn’t understand the range reference you gave. Mine is so much higher than the ranges you listed 😮. A1C has been 4.5-4.7 for two years.
@@rationit not at all. I had one doctor very concerned about it however he wasn’t my primary doctor, he was an ER doctor. I have had 3 different primaries since and they always test it-they never do anything about it. They don’t even give an idea as to what is causing it. I don’t understand why they test for it if they don’t treat it in some way.

My ferritin level was a 6, slightly low hemoglobin, 2 yrs ago....i rarely have a period but im suspecting menopause, however, i am having major digestive issues...pain behind my left ribcage just below my breast that spreads to the sternum area and radiates to my left side/back with nausea. My bowel movements went from everyday to sometimes skipping days....i had a celiac test and showed im IgA defficient...no IgA, but IgG detected(.06) im sick 80 percent of the time...my dr ordered an endoscopy, but later cancelled it, was never informed of that....my dr willnot help me....ive asked to see a GI dr, but told me his hands are tied and cannot do that. He has no idea what IgA defficiency is. He told me hes never heard of it, WHAT?! I TRUST NO DRS ANYMORE(U SOUND LIKE A GOOD DR) BUT MOST ARE PART OF THE ESTABLISHMENT WITH NO INTENTIONS OF HELPING PEOPLE!!! I AM DISGUSTED! this info, i feel is very helpful, but i know my dr will never listen😢
I finally asked my doctor "How low? Like, what are the numbers?" The first number she had for me was when I was pregnant, and it was 6. The second number was also when I was pregnant, it was 16. Just got it checked a couple weeks ago, almost 15 months pp, it's 26. That's the iron. That's all she told me. I had to get my son's checked. He's still EBF, and his iron is 3. 😭 She said his B12 and hemoglobin are also "low" so while my iron is slowly increasing, I'm not giving any of it to him. She wants to check both our iron again in 3 months. I'm going to ask for the other numbers as well, not sure why she didn't just tell me when I asked the first time.
Can liver hemangiomas cause low ferritin? I have multiple that keep growing My ferritin is a 9 I have liver hemangiomas- one is 7.4 cm and two others are around 3?
I am in Canada and my last ferritin level was 1400!!! it has not been under 600 for years. My Doctor said there is not much we can do, my iron level, according to him, was normal.Yet, in 2019 I had to stents placed back to back in an artery that was 99% blocked then just 12 weeks ago I had a triple bypass due to another blockage whithin those stents and 2 smaller ones in other arteries. I have suffered from back pain for decades to the point where everday function is difficult...do you think there is stress there!!!

Doctor , I need help! Ever since I had my daughter 3 years ago and lost a lot of blood due to polyp in the uterus, I've never been the same. My ferretin went down to 3 now its at 11 only received 1 iron infusion but my body feel terrible. especially after each period. My symptoms: Dizzy, foggy brain, circulation issues in feet and hands , restless legs, and recently and started having metallic mouth. Ive been struggling with this 3 years I really need help.
Hey pretty much every good doctor checks ferritin when indicated. For instance, when iron deficiency anemia is suspected in a patient with anemia. This is honestly not a secret or magical lab that doctors don't know about. Hemochromatosis is not a "cop out term". It is a real disease and should be worked up if clinical findings are suggestive of the disease. Ferritin is elevated when there is acute or chronic inflammation, which can occur in people with autoimmune diseases, kidney issues, or much more diseases. It can be >100 or >500 or > 1000. It doesn't really matter what the degree of elevation is when it is due to acute/chronic inflammation. There is no magical cure. The only way is to treat the underlying disease. There is no "specific drug" for high ferritin. A low ferritin without anemia means nothing in the absence of symptoms, so this is why ferritin t is not checked when people have normal/low hemoglobin, no symptoms of anemia, and low ferritin. The American society of hematologist has guidelines on this issue and may be worthy of the time to read.
So I suppose I must be one of the 1% of people who have high ferritin and am not metabolically ill? I've been on a largely carnivore keto diet for 6 months, have lost 18 kg in that time and in the two blood tests I've taken since (one the other day and one four months previously) my ferritin is at 753 in both. But ALT is at 29, AST 18, triglycerides are going down but still a little high at 120, HDL 61, fasting insulin 5.1, fasting glucose 90 and A1C 5.4. Room for improvement certainly, but I wouldn't consider that metabolic syndrome, would you? Can't donate blood because of some crazy rule about mad cow disease (because I was in the UK for more than a year between 1980 and 1996!) 😕 and my doctor says they only do phlebotomies for patients with ferritin over 1000 and with hemochromatosis. So I'm not sure how I'm supposed to get that level down...
I've been on iv iron for 4 years... I'm convinced they do not work for me. My ferritin is a 6 my hemoglobin is 11 my iron is 17... I have hypophosphotimia. B12 deficiency, folate deficiency at this point I'm just living in fear it's crazy.

My iron is 98 and hemoglobin is normal range but ferritin went from 106 to 50 but the doctors keeps saying its normal and I have lack of energy, motivation, low blood pressure, tight chest etc...
Hi, I’m 43 I have a ferritin level of 29. I’m fatigued all the time. Short of breath when doing minimal activity. My arms are restless or have weird sensations. My blood work came back normal. My doctors don’t want to address my ferritin level. They say I’m fine. My transferrin saturation is 43 which is in the high normal range. Not sure if that gives any clues.
How long have you had chronic fatigue? You definitely need to get that investigated. I have had those symptoms and was diagnosed with Hashimoto’s and Sjogrens. But people who have CFS also have those symptoms. I’d recommend seeing an integrative GP.
Mine was 900 lost some weight went down to 600 but no less even after i lost far more weight and am now perfect weight, after decades of this high ferritin without the gene for hemocrotosis, I decided to donate blood and ferritn came down by 200 a month after, and the same thing after second one, i was at 205, then I stopped phelbotomy to see what would happen and it went up to 389 after 5 months, so I donanted again then 2 months later did it again, and will go for a ferritn test in 3 weeks, if it goes down like last time it must be high iron, saturation hovers from 37% to 50%, if not must be inflamtion marker, im not sure.

I asked for an iron panel after seeing I had two copies of the C282Y genes on a 23andme ancestry/Health test. My Ferritin is over 3,000. My iron sat is 106 and my iron is 205. I developed cirrhosis of the liver from iron overload. The iron in my body has caused so much havoc but the weekly phlebotomies aren't working. My Ferritin is still over 3000 after 3 months. Any idea on what can help me?
I have Iron deficiency anemia and have been doing iron infusions because they said I wasn’t absorbing it well after trying supplements and liquid iron. My ferritin is currently at 3 and I’m constantly exhausted. The infusion I had in February didn’t seem to work very well and not sure if I should keep going on doing them since they are so expensive.

My ferritin level is 7 ng/ml..iron levels are 51ùg/dl and vitamin d3 levels are 46ng/ml...i am facing extreme hair fall and hair thinning... Please help me
I am at 9ng/mland same, have been experiencing this for 17 years (since I was 16yo) multiple doctors told me it was just my genetics and my hair was going to continue falling out. I have just recently learned ferritine levels below 70 impede hair growth and under 30 cause hair loss. I finally know the reason for my hair thinning, I suffered so much over the years and I can not believe it was such an "easy" fix. Drs would just say I had mild anemia and that was the end of it, no one ever looked into my ferritin until now (and I am actually not anemic, just very low ferritin).
@ I have been recently diagnosed with dcis and she did a blood panel on me (medical oncologist) I told her my hair has been falling out my oxygen level is low. She says she is gonna fish around and find out the cause of it. I have an iron infusion tmw and again next week. Hopefully can find the reason and get my levels back up.
Hi I’m in TX I have hematosis my ferritin was 470 I have been doing phlebotomy since August of this year and my numbers have come down to 55. But I have also been taking an IP6 every day. My question is do I need to continue taking the IP6 ?
I don't get it.... You say for men it's 40-150 but the Mayo Clinic says 24-336.... Mt Sinai is 30-400.... My lab says 22-332....That's a very large gap between them and you.... Anyone see what I'm missing? Sounds more like ALP levels, not ferritin?
Depends on the lab (respectively company) these institutions are using. With each of those different reference ranges you mentioned comes also their own "ideal" or recommend numbers. It would have been better had this doc mentioned the reference range he's using when he's giving ideal numbers
I believe ferritin tells the story. They should always test the ferritin. I have Hereditary Hemochromatosis with both gene mutations. Reg Drs dont check for iron, TIBC Ferritin in complete blood tests. That's why so many people are sick doctors can't figure it out because they don't check for ferritin and iron. Also the levels for iron and ferritin for normal people is different than for people with hemochromatosis. Only a hematologist knows this. I move around a lot so I've had different hematologists and every hematologist I see has a different range a ferritin that they go by. Right now my ferritin is 80. Some hematologists don't want it over 40. Im 100% European.

My doctor did check my ferritin and it's at 2, i havent gotten my cycle in 3 years, i have had an endoscope and colonoscopy that shows no bleeding. Ive tried iron supplements and they havent helped. I guess I really need to push my dr to figure things out. I feel like im going to pass out and have a hard time breathing, i am also always tired.
Hello Dr Ben I had a recent blood test and my ferritin level is 3ng/ml, i am 33 years old female. I have been prescribed ferrous fumarate 322mg. I take these just before falling asleep as this does not cause side effects but would these work the same way as they should if I was to take them in the morning? Also does low ferritin cause egg intolerant?
That is very low...You need to get to the root cause. Taking iron supplements can help for short time to raise your levels, but still does not fix the 'why'. Take it in the morning on empty stomachs with orange juice - avoid milk and coffee/caffeine and the reason for morning is because ur liver produces hepcidin more at night, which reduces iron absorption.
My my first iron studies was high in Jan and they said it normal when it wasn't and I had blood in my stool and I had 244 iron levels very high and I have my recent iron levels 209 so why is my Dr suspects I have colourectal cancer and now I m being referred to check my liver.

Hi doctor from Uk I recently had my ferritin test twice this month as my first Check was 187 and the second test this week is 220. I was feeling so fatigued since last year and ever more lethargic this year and I keep getting hypo blood sugar levels and I am not diabetic yet and I can’t stop burping. I am seeing my doctor next week.
My ferritin was 4.1. It was put down to pregnancy but my baby is 14 months old now. Supplemented with cosmofer injection….dropped again to 10 this month. Looking into getting scopes done/gynae/haemotology/gastroenteritis. Etc any other advice?

@@f8wellcenters I had to pay $1069.00 to have an Iron infusion which I had on Sept 19. Everyday I feel so much better. Stomach pain is clearing up, I’m walking , doing weights and haven’t had an afternoon nap this past week. No longer feeling depressed and defeated. Medical wouldn’t cover it as my Hemoglobin levels were still at 122. I’m also taking vit B12 shots even though my Vit B is at 1089
My Dr only tested my iron serum which was higher at 192. She did not test my Ferritin (which I am requesting). Could your iron serum be high and normal ferritin? My B12 is really high as well and I’m not supplementing.
Mine is a 15. My blood work and iron was " normal" and I kept telling my doctors I didn't feel well. They would say I was depressed or needed to lose weight. I finally found a Dr that cares and is helping me!
So low! Have you been able to address the root cause?
I had some female issues for a few years and I lost alot of blood. My G.P told me my iron and bloodwork was normal and that I was depressed and needed to lose weight. Took a natural path dr and a sleep specialist to dig deeper and find that myvferratin was low. I'm on iron pills now amd hope it works!
Same happened to me!!!! Severe hairloss and exhaustion and my dr says "your blood tests are perfect"! I checked and ferritin was 15!!!😢
I’ve recently discovered my Ferritin levels are at 45 after years of feeling extremely exhausted, brain fog, feeling of brain inflammation, oxygen deprivation…Started taking iron supplements myself as doctors blindsided the recommendation for iron supplementation…Can’t believe the difference within days, head is clear, oxygen levels a lot better, feel more energy…

Switching to a pescatarian diet but only eating 10 oz of fish a week? How can you live on that?

Sexism. Just like men can supposedly have two drinks a day but "women" only one. Nothing about height or even weight.
This guy is spitting fire 🔥 I’m so thankful
Why do you take the ferrous sulphate?
Kindly tell me have your ferritin level decreased? Are you fine now
@@sweethome4175 No.

My ferritin levels was 481 … I was worried because the specialist said the other Dr didn’t seem to think it was a hurry… what do you think??
You need to have the hereditary hemochromatosis blood test.
Same! My ferritin is at 18 from a 5.

Is high ferratin cause by low copper?
.
Have you been taking vitamin c? thyroid issues also affect iron
(It doesn't appear they're any worse, anyway.)
But I was very surprised to see a couple of these markers had changed quite a bit.
(It had been high last August, too; endo raised my levo dose, but it didn't hold for very long.)
It seems clear that inflammation of some sort is running amok. I don't know what else to do. I'm trying to avoid drugs, but--aside from the diuretic I accepted because oh yeah, my urine calcium is high (not so bad in blood,) and the Reclast they want me to take but which I'm holding off on because I have decades to take drugs and I don't want to make things worse, I doubt there's much a doctor could/would say...oh, fortunately my hs.CRP is low (if that's meaningful,) so I guess I don't need a statin (which I'd refuse anyway.)
But it's hard to know what to eat...do I eat animal protein for my bones, or avoid it for my kidneys?

Lowers thyroid antibodies
Increases all organ health
Increases glucose absorption

-muscle and bone building & rejuvinating (growth) problems

For Optimal Health keep your Ferritin Levels around 💯
I have the same issue. Low ferritin and high iron and doctor doesn't want me to go on iron because he says that's more dangerous than the low ferritin. Idk what to do
I was later diagnosed with the MHTHR gene. Basically, I am not able to convert the free iron in my blood into ferritin. I now take methylated folate, I avoid as many foods as possible that have folic acid in them. Also take a methylated vitamins, which helps convert free iron into ferritin.
Look into copper dysregulation, which can be a root cause of gut issues.
Is it just me or do his numbers of 40-150 for men and 40-120 for women sound incorrect? You're the only comment that seemed to notice.

I'm from Germany. Mine ferritin was at 9 in May. Now after a fight with my doctor and two infusions I'm at 105. HB was normal all the time...
I gave hair loss. My ferritin is 17 but my serum iron is 170, which js high got a female, I don’t get it. What’s going on?
I would love to support you in getting to the root cause!
I have a deficiency plz help me find out what i need to do?
Hi Is my ferritin level low or normal? 25 UG/L ( 25 -290) iron 24 umol/L (10-33) saturated iron 56% TIBC 43 (45-70) I do carry HETEROZYGOUS H63D & C282Y
My doctor did check my ferritin and it's at 2, i havent gotten my cycle in 3 years, i have had an endoscope and colonoscopy that shows no bleeding. Ive tried iron supplements and they havent helped. I guess I really need to push my dr to figure things out. I feel like im going to pass out and have a hard time breathing, i am also always tired.

a gut issue. I had to get a naturopathic doctor n she is now fixing my gut.
Hello Dr Ben
I had a recent blood test and my ferritin level is 3ng/ml, i am 33 years old female.
Im in Ireland not sure the conversation but my father has ferrarin at 2000. They suspect splean infection
If we never knew anything and just ate moderate and exercise we would probably be just fine..now we're all stressed over bloody work
My my first iron studies was high in Jan and they said it normal when it wasn't and I had blood in my stool and I had 244 iron levels very high and I have my recent iron levels 209 so why is my Dr suspects I have colourectal cancer and now I m being referred to check my liver.

Hi doctor from Uk I recently had my ferritin test twice this month as my first
Check was 187 and the second test this week is 220.

You need to look at this from a functional medicine perspective. Rather than fixing it with a procedure or medication you need to uncover what is out of balance. I can support you with this

Anyway after reaching point of using a walker from shortness of breathe and weakness had found out had Hiatus Hernia with Cameron’s Lesions
Glad you found the reason why. How are you now?
@@f8wellcenters I had to pay $1069.00 to have an Iron infusion which I had on Sept 19. Everyday I feel so much better. Stomach pain is clearing up, I’m walking , doing weights and haven’t had an afternoon nap this past week. No longer feeling depressed and defeated.
Medical wouldn’t cover it as my Hemoglobin levels were still at 122.
I’m also taking vit B12 shots even though my Vit B is at 1089
They also can’t fix the Hiatus Hernia as they say the risks out weigh benefits
@@barrytodd3408 I'm sorry to hear that.
My Dr only tested my iron serum which was higher at 192. She did not test my Ferritin (which I am requesting). Could your iron serum be high and normal ferritin? My B12 is really high as well and I’m not supplementing.
I would love to see a full picture of what is going on, you can email us at f8support@f8wellcenters.com
Emailing you report I have. I’ve requested more tests as well
