I think it was originally meant to be really basic so they could add things to it for different settings kind of like the original Heathers the musical set however, I feel like it kind of got away from them as the show developed
I can't imagine the heartbreak of rehearsing and keeping in shape they had to go through to execute this, only to have the musical shut down after 16 previews and 5 performances
The "In" from the recent workshop is somewhere and it is absolutely amazing. Sue sings first, than Chris, and the boys are in the number, the harmonies are fantastic
I know!!! I can't imagine anyone being able to do that for 8 performances a week, every week for nearly every ensemble song too! Well..they only had to do it for what 20 performances atleast LOL!
While the choreography is not that good, there were two different visions of the show. Terry Hands' and Debbie Allen's. Hands' vision is the one you see in the video and what was presented on Broadway, in a greek tragedy style. Debbie Allen's vision of the show was for it to be in the style of Footloose and Fame. Take place in real places, with real outfits, what we want to see in the show. I think she was right all along. If Terry Hands was never hired the show would have been much better!
Wow this is actually good from what i heard. i love the choreography in it. too bad it flopped i would have love to see this. but i hear there is gonna be a revivle in west end so hopefully it works out!!
This score for this show is tremendously catchy. I really hope that in the next few years someone can put in a hope of reviving the show, I really think it could do well with some heavy tweaking here and there.
@jetset59 But then I heard that he said it was a disaster of a musical. There is a similarity b/w Stephen King's "Carrie" and "Carrie the Musical" is that they are very different than what you would expect.
I just finished watching the bootleg from the Stratford production. I thought that the first act was really good, but it was in Act 2 when everything started going to hell. I was horrified at the song "Out For Blood".
This scene is in my opinion evidence of one of the things that really hurt this musical... While I really like the song... The lyrics really are a good way to open the show, really gets the mentality of most high school girls across... The dancing is too much... This is a dramatic horror musical... There was way too much dance... It's not Fame... It's Carrie... Who's idea was it to hire Debbie Allen? I really think the dancing (along with other things) was a downfall with the show
i'm a singer and dancer...and believe me...something like this would not be easy to do. we had a similar dance and song to do a while ago and it was hard to dance and sing it at the same time.
I think the song "I remember how those boys could dance" is simply amazing. to me it's an operatic duel between carrie and her mother. For someone like myself, who saw the show, It is really the best scene.
Yes I have the scene too, but I was on a website not long ago and there was a guy who's father worked on the broadway show, and was given a tape on closing night with the whole show recorded. It was a different version than the above one. Filmed from the lower balcony, off to the left. (Before you say it, It wasnt the stratford one). Betty Buckley was in it (so he claims). I emailed him, but he never replied :(
yeah this is definitely trying to be at least 7 different things at once and therefore fails to be anything let alone coherent storytelling or an accurate representation of high school
This musical is really for fans of the book and film. Unless you have an understanding of the both of them, then you won't get this musical. That's also what brought it down, it wasn't descriptive enough, just very raw, bt still entertaining.
you can tell debbie allen did the choreography because frankly she isnt that great, if you watch "Fame: The TV Series" you can see the similarities between her choreo there and in Carrie
This is definity the best opening of this play I seen on youtube, of course the quality not up to par, but thats would be too perfect lol. I do like the vintage look this gives off, like it was filmed in the 70s LOL.
I love in.... one of the few songs that had somewhat GOOD choreography in my opinion... is there ANYWHERE that i can get the complete footage of the Broadway run (only act one am i correct?)...anyone?...... please?
that looked tiring. i like the music and dancing but its a dumb idea for a musical...lol and im sure its better from down below. i think dancing looks dumb from up above
this isnt the only known recording, and its not from broadway this is the england version you can tell from the pyramid they made, also they whole show is recorded and can easily be watched on any good site
I used to be able to access a site Carrie The Musical (.com no spaces) and it had it there, but last time I tried(a few weeks ago) it came up with a 404 message and today I tried and it now comes up with website suggestions
Still, try, maybe you will have better luck. The related videos on this video has a link a video posted under CarrieTheMusicalcom of "Eve was Weak" and that was where I original found out about the site. I'm sorry I couldn't be of more help. I don't know what happened
i wonder this myself like all the time, if you listen to any song the audience cheer when the song finishes, but the press hated it so automaticly other people hated it
While I have no real evidence to back up my opinion, I would seriously doubt this. I mean, the composing team doesn't even include "Carrie" in their bios and theatrical rights aren't available to ANYONE. It seems to have been swept pretty cleanly under the rug.
@jonster00 they aren't going to do a revival on the west end, but they did do a reading in november to revive it on broadway, and the reading went well but changes to the show are being heavily kept secret
@mikeyeeca Well actually it is more than likely going to be revived on broadway... And it isn't swept under the rug really... If you buy the special edition DVD of Carrie (the 70's one... the good one lol) they even have a 10 minute bonus feature about the musical interviewing Michael Gore and Betty Buckley... Sadly they have no footage from it... And Michael talks about it as if he's still proud of it
so i heard from somewhere that there are rummors that the there are soon going to be workshops for a revival of carrie in the west end, can anyone conform that?
There's a fansite that youcan pretty much download the Soundboard recording from either the first or last (judging from the loud enthustatic applause it had to be one of those) from the Carrie fansite. Google search like "Music from Carrie" and it's one of the first that pop up! You can also listen to the rest of it too.
Actually, I agree with you, Even today, this musical stands out on its own. It is famous, for what it is, incredibally, I won't say bad, cause I like it, but Unusual. I think A revival is in order...you?
You gotta remember, this was made when the 80's were turning in to the 90's and the 90's were trying to be the 70's
XD
I LOVE the choreography and this is actually kind of catchy but WHAT IS THIS SET?
Sodapop246 8 I think it was intended to be a Greek thing
Austin Pearce Yeah they wanted to add some Grease like stuff but then it got mixed up with Greece
They wanted to be like grease but they thought he said greece
It’s a box. Duh lol
I think it was originally meant to be really basic so they could add things to it for different settings kind of like the original Heathers the musical set however, I feel like it kind of got away from them as the show developed
never seen such a tough musical number in my life!
There were definitely many choices made here...
I can't imagine the heartbreak of rehearsing and keeping in shape they had to go through to execute this, only to have the musical shut down after 16 previews and 5 performances
whooa! The soloist who starts at 1:14 puts me through it!! I'm exhausted just watching her! Give the girl some water!!!!
Charlotte Damboise she’s a legend!

I used to know a girl who was in the original Broadway cast of this.
I feel so bad for them. Those dance moves are insane!
would really hate to have to do that choreography and sing at the same time!
Wow this is actually good from what i heard. i love the choreography in it. too bad it flopped i would have love to see this. but i hear there is gonna be a revivle in west end so hopefully it works out!!
Where did you find these things? They're freakin awesome! I don't know why everyone says this musical blew!
This score for this show is tremendously catchy. I really hope that in the next few years someone can put in a hope of reviving the show, I really think it could do well with some heavy tweaking here and there.

@noodle0912 I love this song. It's on my workout playlist.
type this into google :
Carrie...a fan's site
and go to the musical section. Its all there
I saw this show....and it was actually boring and like watching a junior high school production.
I really think the dancing (along with other things) was a downfall with the show
the song is catchy but your right it is terrible. but the dancers are really good.
Actually this one is the closing matinee that was filmed by one of the cast. ;)
i'm a singer and dancer...and believe me...something like this would not be easy to do. we had a similar dance and song to do a while ago and it was hard to dance and sing it at the same time.

Stephen King must be *so* proud ;-)
This musical is really for fans of the book and film. Unless you have an understanding of the both of them, then you won't get this musical. That's also what brought it down, it wasn't descriptive enough, just very raw, bt still entertaining.
there is a rumour going around the internet that the video of the destruction from act 2 survived from Broadway, but the owner won't let us see it.
you can tell debbie allen did the choreography because frankly she isnt that great, if you watch "Fame: The TV Series" you can see the similarities between her choreo there and in Carrie
@musicalgeek406 that's a good question. stephen king saw the opening night! how did he like the show?
This is definity the best opening of this play I seen on youtube, of course the quality not up to par, but thats would be too perfect lol. I do like the vintage look this gives off, like it was filmed in the 70s LOL.

Craig Long I know this is eight years old,,, but yeah there is.
that looked tiring. i like the music and dancing but its a dumb idea for a musical...lol and im sure its better from down below. i think dancing looks dumb from up above
The dance looks so fun!
May 12, 1988, it closed 3 days later
this isnt the only known recording, and its not from broadway this is the england version you can tell from the pyramid they made, also they whole show is recorded and can easily be watched on any good site
I used to be able to access a site Carrie The Musical (.com no spaces) and it had it there, but last time I tried(a few weeks ago) it came up with a 404 message and today I tried and it now comes up with website suggestions
That is plain unfair. He would have some sort of pro shot!!!
Still, try, maybe you will have better luck. The related videos on this video has a link a video posted under CarrieTheMusicalcom of "Eve was Weak" and that was where I original found out about the site. I'm sorry I couldn't be of more help. I don't know what happened
thanks alot for putting this up!
This dance was Changed 14 TIMES!
What does ANYTHING ABOUT THIS have to do with Carrie?!?!!!
William Garcia thts the opening song and it starts at PE
10 years late but this is at the gym, before the shower scene.
i wonder this myself like all the time, if you listen to any song the audience cheer when the song finishes, but the press hated it so automaticly other people hated it
if your talking about the solo dancer, yes
If your talking about the solo singer its Darlene Love
While I have no real evidence to back up my opinion, I would seriously doubt this. I mean, the composing team doesn't even include "Carrie" in their bios and theatrical rights aren't available to ANYONE. It seems to have been swept pretty cleanly under the rug.
i couldnt find the link you were talking about! could you maybe direct me into the right direction?
@jonster00

Anyone have the rehearsal footage in ENgland of Do Me a Favour that used to be up here?
Where can I find a copy of the soundtrack?!!!! I'd kill to have it. (Not literally, mind you.)
so i heard from somewhere that there are rummors that the there are soon going to be workshops for a revival of carrie in the west end, can anyone conform that?
PEOPLE ARE LIKE SHEEP...if you say something enough, people will repeat it ! This show WILL see Broadway again !!
I have not heard this....nor have I ever seen it. I do own the scene from England and it is very impressive...
The Virginia Theater or something
i have the score for this show, and am willing to trade
I AGREE !!! I honestly do not think that the SET was bad. I get the concept. And the cast was very talented. BRING BACK CARRIE !!!
Good news! They did
There's a fansite that youcan pretty much download the Soundboard recording from either the first or last (judging from the loud enthustatic applause it had to be one of those) from the Carrie fansite. Google search like "Music from Carrie" and it's one of the first that pop up! You can also listen to the rest of it too.
CRAP!!! Wat a waste of money and time!!!!
is there anyway to get IN like on cd?
ITS BACK?? WHAT DO YOU MEAN?
Actually, I agree with you, Even today, this musical stands out on its own. It is famous, for what it is, incredibally, I won't say bad, cause I like it, but Unusual. I think A revival is in order...you?
Mendalbaum has it and he wont share
This dance was changed 14 times
Thank God. Im not the only one.
Its back!!! yes. Love this dance.
Where did you discover this?
How are they being kept secret? The changes have all been well-documented, including what they have cut and new songs added.
really? i love the choreo and the song, i jut dont liek the rest of the show
Out of the teens numbers, this is my favorite number. The dance solo is pretty awesome. Embrace the Eighties.
I love the Jane Fonda Workout choreography.
A revival would be such a huge hit, I think the score rules!
YES ! She was great in this show !
@RadioCityChristmas good analysis
and you know this how?
why is this being sped up
