I bought pre rigged Carolina rigs for years at Wal-Mart for $1.59. Put a Green Pumpkin Salamander 3/0 hook. The smallies in our lake just couldn't get enough of them. Thanks, for your info. Shawn

I caught my first bass on a Carolina rigged Mann's purple worm in 1972. I was 4 and my grandfather took me to a nearby lake. I can still remember the excitement and joy of that first fish.
I’ve fished the Carolina for a long time. The video is spot on very nice guide. I use the Carolina rig as a kinda depth finder and structure finder. You’re right you really can feel the whole bottom of the lake, feeling the difference of sand and mud is easy with this and a good rod
A well produced and presented video with excellent graphic category breakdowns. I don’t know if you ever (before your birth) seen the 1980’s commercially sold Carolina Rigs. They were pre rigged heavy 40+/- lb line with two 90 degree spring steel (stainless) elbows that held (about 1”) 20+/- lb line with two 3” finesse worms. The line went down the length of the plastic worm and had 2 hooks. One in the head, and one in the tail. The line was so stiff that the worms had a 90 degree kink in them from being folded in the package. I know that I was very skeptical when first seeing them, but on the first use at Lake Euphalla casting to a sandy beach with a fairly stiff wind and chop going on shore, 2 of us caught 24 bass in an hour. More than once, we caught two fish at a time. I have never seen these rigs sold since. Thanks, The old professor

Started fishing with just a line to a hook. Within a week the carolina rig was my main rig and I love it. I can "feel" the bottom and love the floro leader like to be about 2-2.5 feet. Catches fish!!
i agree with 90%,I'm an old man and I've used Carolina rig all my life. i fish from a John boat and use the rig as a cheap fish finder to save time. i drag it fast like a slow crankbait. it pinpoints exact location of small branches and rocks . bottom changes. then i use a Shakey head or a jig as a follow up

Hi man. In the UK, we dont have freshwater bass. However, that's never been a reason not to use the rigs and methods employed in the US because if they catch fish in one place, there's no reason they wont catch them somewhere else! This has been one of the best Carolina rig videos I have seen so far. The vast majority take you little further than just tying the rig with no explanations as to why this or hat feature of it, such as leader length. Let alone changing the way you cast out your line and why! As such, I really appreciate you taking the time to go thoroughly through the tying, casting, use of, where and when to use along with where, when and why to stop or seriously slow your retrieve. Thank you VERY much for such an in depth demo of the Caroling rig. It was eye opening to say the least!!! As for the bead, you can get what is a softer plastic bead that basically squeezes down over your knot. The bead is much softer than the knot material and thoroughly protects it. I have used them when fishing for 20lb+ fish over wrecks in the sea and at the end of the day, I pulled the bead off the knot to see how much protection or wear it had done to the knot. I was amazed to see the knot looking like I had just tied it. So if you can get these softer beadds, I would thoroughly recommend you givng them a try with this rig. Thanks again!

In all honesty I believe this is the most consistent Bass catcher year round. Even during a tough bite. I mean even the split shot is just a Carolina rig for shallower water. Simple Carolina rig and worm catches Bass anywhere
The bead is not just to protect the knot. It is responsible for some of the noise generation as well. The click when your lead hits the bead is more pronounced than the sound of the weight hitting most anythong on the bottom. I personally recommend glass beads. I even use 2 beads and 2 weights sometimes
I'm keen to give this a go next time I am out. I am just fearful that I am going to lose a lot of hooks to bottom snags. Thanks for a fantastic educational video, they are top quality
one of my favorite rigs i use a small peace of cork on the leader line to float the lure above the weight into the fishes strike zone i cot more fish with it set up that way and the Carolina rig works great for live bait of cut bait and the glass bead it the only way to go make more nose then a plastic bead

Can’t wait for more material. I’ve been Carolina rigging the wrong way.... i was using a 1/4 oz egg with a bead, assuming that it was going to present more finesse. Tomorrow I’ll try two 1/4 oz weights and see if that makes a difference.
I use this rig on my catfishing gear, it works so good for catfishing except your using way heavier gear like I fish rivers and I use a 5oz egg sinker a bead and big swivel,I use 100lb braid to an 80lb mono leader because there are so crazy snags and I'm using a 10/0 hook
Here in Hawaii we use half oz to 1 oz weights, I use 10 ft leader bc we dont drag it on the floor but keep it just above the floor along with beads on the main to make it look more presentable
Where's the rest of this guide? All of the videos have been very helpful with a good range of basic to advanced knowledge. We are waiting for more Guides on different Rigs! That was a great comprehensive guide to the Carolina Rig, give us more!

Good call. Use a longer leader w/ smaller diameter line for more finesse. But keep as much weight on there as you can!
The first weight I use is a brass bullet weight, with its sharp point and using a smaller egg weight, after I've found less snags.
