What they did in September was absolutely a collapse compared to August. Missing the post season by 1 game. Losing to San Diego's AAA squad. smh They were like 3 games ahead of SD at the start of September.
Absolutely still very good. I think the "Collapse" was just within the first few months. Carroll underperforming HURT, along with Montgomery being a complete letdown. However, this team is undoubtedly gonna be back next year winning.
Missing from this video is the innumerable blown saves by Sewald. There were a bunch of single factor issues that, had they been any different, we would have made the playoffs. Sewald’s horrendous pitching in the second half of the season and his ability to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory was the most potent of those factors for me.
He had a 5 ERA in 20 appearances with the dbacks in 2023 and you guys still took him as your closer. Thats an unforced error by your GM/talent scout team.
The Dbacks overachieved last year and are now going back to Earth, it's not hard to understand why they failed this year. They barely made the playoffs in 2023 too.
They did overachieve last year but they also had sustained periods of greatness during the mid/late season this year. Their steady state is much closer to a playoff team than not. Unfortunately it didn’t seem like that steady state was steady… it was greatness or great disappointment.
The Dbacks were better this year than last year. They had more wins and a MUCH better run differential. Got rly lucky last year and rly unlucky this year. They didn’t collapse. The Rangers might’ve tho
They didn't really "collapse" though, they still have the same core who simply underachieved this year and they were also plagued by injuries all season. Evan Carter and deGrom missed the whole season, Josh Jung missed half the season, etc. Also, Seager never played a single game at 100% this season. Next season the Rangers will have young, healthy sluggers, Seager at 100%, Semien hopefully out of his slump, a healthy deGrom, up-and-coming Kumar Rocker and (maybe) Jack Leiter, and an owner and GM who are 100% willing to spend this offseason. Rangers had a down year, and that's honestly expected looking at Bruce Bochy's record. He's never led a WS winning team to the playoffs the year after.

I'm an Arizona resident. I went to a game on August 26th, 2024, against the New York Mets. 8-5 AZ, and the Mets were terrible then. The last game I went to in 2022, it was a Sunday. On Sunday games, kids get to run the bases while waitint in a 2 hour line to run the bases. It truly is a fun team. As a Mets fan, I still do not like the D-Backs
Great video! People overthink some things, I think the D-Backs in the 2023 playoffs were just lucky to be at the right place at the right time. What is stunning is that the D-Backs won more games during the regular season in 2024 than in 2023, but they did not make the playoffs this season.
D-Backs benefitted a lot from the Padres missing the playoffs last year. With the Padres strong, the NL West was basically a two-team race all year, so even though the D-Backs won more games, they finished in third. And they still would have gotten in had it not been for the Mets going on a really hot run and forcing the doubleheaders with the Braves. This year was just a weird one in terms of how it all finished out.
Yeah I had to do a double take on that. It’s the same mistake leople make with Minnesota. We should be referring to Phoenix and Minneapolis if we want to refer to the cities.
Been a Dbacks fan my whole life. Calling their 2023 season a “collapse” is wild considering last year they were a great first half team, and terrible second half team with a lot of problems throughout the season. This year they kind of flipped but overall where much better, at least offensively. Even though they missed the playoffs (which im still depressed about), the NL was way tougher this year especially with the padres and dodgers in the same division not to mention the grimace mets
I wouldn’t even say they collapsed. It’s more that they way overachieved last season, barely made the playoffs and ran away with their opportunity. Whats even crazier is that they won 89 games this year which is more than they won last year and missed the postseason by literally 1 game on the final day of the season.
@@PurelyBaseballYT yea I thought the same exact thing when they were hot they literally didn’t lose a game, but then they were cold, they did nothing but lose
Both the D-Backs and Rangers just got hot at the right times last year. Both regressed and didn't win their divisions or make the playoffs this season. But both were still good, they just weren't as hot as last year and the NL West was pretty strong while the AL West wasn't strong but no one seemed to want to win the division, either.

I think more people would side with you if you delved into his 2017 and 2018 years, where he singlehandedly choked a playoff series and a division to the Dodgers
They had josh bell and only used him for walker's time on the IL and then kept him on the bench the rest of the season. He's a switch hitter with a silver slugger, why let him sit there? They could've platooned Jake and Randall with corbin in center and Gurriel switching between left and right field, platoon Joc with Bell as the DH. Or they could keep the DH platoon and have Bell pinch hit if Joc started and you switch him out for randall and now another pitching change causes a right hander up. They had so many options with Bell and just left him on the bench.
They won more regular season games in 2024 than they did in 2023 and had 11 more wins than the team that beat them in the World Series. Quite a few World Series teams did worse the following season. Regarding starting pitching... look what the Dodgers won with this year. They had two great starting rotations worth of pitchers on the injured list, plus Shohei Ohtani.
Could have sworn they won the bee delay game on a Christian Walker walkoff. Also, they ended in a 3way tie with the Mets and Braves, not Padres and Braves. While both Carroll and Suarez struggled to start the year, they ended playing very well. Carroll even got player of the months in August i think. They improved a lot over last year. They led all of MLB in runs scored. Pitching was the downfall of this team. Also 89 wins is not the second best record in team history, they have won 90+ games 6 times, including a 100 win season in 1999(their second season in existence)
It’s simple, to many players underperformed at certain times in the season. Corbin’s performance in the first half was unacceptable. The team wasn’t good in the first half. Then the second half came around, and they were a LOT better. However, the bad pitching out weighed the #1 offense
The stolen bases were the other way around, Acuña had 73 and Ruiz had 67. And also 89 wins is the third most for Arizona, as they've finished seasons with 100 and 93 wins
As a Diamondbacks fan, I was very disappointed this year. 2023 was a high that I will never ever forget. My fandom with this team goes back to 2006, but this team had won the World Series on the day was born: 11/04/2001. My dad actually played baseball with an old friend who was on that 2001 World Series team, Ernest Junior Spivey. Going into 2024, I only expected the Diamondbacks to have consistent playoff contention. We're not ruined because we have a mentality that we can go deep in the playoffs, but there's a lot of things that need to be fixed, specifically our pitching. It's a good thing we haven't slashed payroll this year and this ownership group actually wants to compete...kind off. We will be back and chaos will come back.
I don’t think the collapse is fully over. Zac Gallen is in the last year of his contract and may be traded. Nobody on that pitching staff is close to his level at this point. I expect the D-Backs to become the Blue Jays of the AL, and the team will be dismantled in 2 years. Atkins and Hazen, and Rogers and Kendrick are birds of a feather.
I didn't view the whole thing, but when I saw that the author claims that they were in a three-way tie with the Braves and Padres, that is not true. The two other teams the Diamondbacks tied with were the Braves and Mets, and they lost the season series to both teams.
This video grinds my ass. Yes the Dbacks overachieved last year, but we had like a 90% chance to make the post season at the beginning of the final week and choked. People defend the Rangers saying they were plagued with injury... so were the dbacks, Marte, Walker, Kelly, Gurriel, and Moreno all missed significant time this season and we still only missed the playoffs by 1 game. Also, I think that the NL West was the most competitive division in the league this year. The Dbacks record would have either won or tied for 2nd in every other division. While it was a disappointing end to the season, the dbacks did not "collapse" this year in the same way the rangers did
Calling what they did a collapse, it's a bit of an exaggeration. They won 5 more games than last year and they were a team that is a product of the current flawed playoff system where a team that probably shouldn't be in the playoffs can get hot at the right time and get to the World Series. The better description is that they overachieved last year in a bad National League and they got better this year in a tougher National League.
The Rangers video is coming out soon, but it's twice as long! Obviously the D Backs had a GOOD season considering they won 89 games, more than last year. However, I think it’s easy to forget how bad they were in the first half. To many stars went through slumps of under performance - including Carroll, and unfortunately a lot of the pitching. Overall a team that played well together, but individual performances certainly cost this team wins.
Signing monty was hilarious as a ranger fan. Did you not see how hard we rode him? I never fault a player going after the bag. Glad we did not sign him

I like hearing about a team's season, but I prefer a story that is told well. Who is behind Purely Baseball? Was this a script fed to a computer-generated voice? There are so many grammar and pronunciation errors that it was hard to listen, as well as a lot of poor phrasing. I'll have to find something more professional.
They actually won more games this year than last year, so I wouldn't say they "collapsed". Rather, I think the Braves and the Mets did better, especially given that one team had been battling with injuries all year and one team didn't really get going until the Grimace and OMG thing.
Had a trip booked to Arizona for Oct. 1st bought tickets for the wildcard game and started watching all the dback games right as there downfall started end of the stretch, depressing to watch lol
I mean 89 wins in a brutal division isnt a collapse to me. You could say things like Carroll had major regression, Montgomery actually did more harm than good, etc. They had a lot of problems. But collapse? Nah.
I have to agree with some others here that it wasn't a collapse. They won more game this year actually and were the top in the league for runs and very high for hits. Did they make some mistakes? Sure. Do they need way better pitching? Heck yes. But it was more like a disappointment in their potential than an overall collapse.
Thank you brotha, I really appreciate that! Definitely noticed that as well with the music. At some moments was good, others it felt the music was louder than me. I’ll work to fix that as we move into the future! 👍🏼
It’s a good thing their offense came though and was clutch, getting a jump 3-0 and taking advantage of their starting pitching really won them that ring
Aaron Judge also seems to be a postseason bust. Unless he goes insane during Game 4, it might be too late for the Yankees. They really need to get him going if the Yanks want to win the Series (or at least force some more games).
@@PurelyBaseballYT The thing about the Yanks is for the past 15 years they've just been another team. They get to the playoffs as usually go out in the first round. They haven't been anything close to a powerhouse or dynasty. Maybe that will change, but it's clear that whatever mojo they once had, it's long gone. Whether that is the fault of Cashman or not, I don't know.
i mean they were definitely a better team in 24 than they were in 23. Dbacks had the best offense in baseball this year. Pitching was rough but i wouldnt be shocked is montgomery has a bounce back season
Welp I expected to have an Orioles video out BEFORE this D Backs video… but the editor I have on that O’s video is late. ANY day now its coming out tho, 50 minutes long.
Dbacks definitely didn’t collapse since last year. They had a better record and MUCH better run differential in 2024 than 2023. They narrowly snuck in the playoffs in 2023 and narrowly missed the playoffs in 2024. They were like one game away from making the playoffs in the exact same situation as the year before with the WS run. How is that a collapse? You could claim that they had a late season collapse. On Aug 25 they were 75-56. They then finished 14-17 to end up with an 89-73 record. On Aug 25 they were on pace for a record of 93-69 which would have had them comfortably in the postseason with the Mets missing out.
They over-performed in the 2023 post-season and the cursed monkey paw finally curled. They had so many chances to get to the Post season but blew it. The suspect bull pen and lack of star power on the hitting as well as a lack of good starting pitching costed them in the end. They got hot in the summer but cooled off late come September. Zach Gallen deserves to be on a better team.
I wouldn’t say they collapsed. They were never good to start. Barely made the playoffs, got an easy brewers team, a dodger team that choke and had no pitching. And a Philadelphia team that decided to stop hitting in game 6 and 7. When Philadelphia had their pitch “normal” and their hitters were “normal” they killed AZ.
Bro talking about them like they didnt win 89 games with a positive w/l and were only 1 or 2 games away from another wildcard spot and arguably had one of the better offenses in MLB this year unlike the Rangers with 78 and a negative w/l even with Yates doing everything to save them 🤣🤣🤣
Dbacks fan here in Arizona! Bro you dont know what you're talking abt. I wouldnt say we "collapsed." Best scoring offense in the MLB, same record as the Mets and Braves, able to resign people and add new faces, improving 5 games? People were saying the Dodgers, Dbacks, and Padres might be 3 of the best teams in the MLB. Yes I will say our pitching is horrendous. We need more depth and more reliable starters. But to say we "collapsed" just because we missed the playoffs 1 year after the world series? No. The Rangers did worse than us, so why not do a vid on them? We had injuries this year. A ton of them. Oh and a doubleheader after the season was over was a shitty move by MLB because a hurricane delayed games in Atlanta. It wasn't our fault we missed the playoffs. You cant say we "collapsed"
@@jaredhardaway #1, I actually am making a Rangers video. Difference between them, the D Backs vid is 20 minutes long, Rangers video will be double that. #2, I broadly explain the injuries. The #1 offense. It’s all in this video lol. The D Backs start was BAD, Corbin underperformed. Couldn’t get a rhythm. The “Collapse” was the beginning of 2024. I was rooting for them to get into the playoffs HEAVY by the end of the year. Ultimately, early months cost them.

Collapsed??? They had an end of season collapse this season, they didn't all of a sudden collapse after playing in the World Series, they performed for most of this season my 14th favorite team in MLB but man Texas won the World Series, never looked like a playoff team this season, and had a losing record for most if not all season like they finished, my 4th favorite team in MLB only bringing that up to show no bias, I guess i could be more disappointed by a team I like better but the facts is facts, the Rangers were already struggling in the beginning when even the Astros were struggling, then couldn't pick it up when the Seattle started struggling
No. Not a collapse. Clickbait title, with all due respect. Though, September was painful but in my book, they showed that 2023 was an upward trend (albeit overachieving at the right time, but still) and not an aberration or an outlier. They had horrible luck in the first half with injuries and were missing Merrill Kelly and Eduardo Rodriguez for large chunks of the year (and even after they came back from injury, they weren't as effective as they could be), along with Corbin underperforming so badly there were fans wanting him demoted back to AAA. Gallen never really was the ace that he was previously (maybe fatigue from a shortened offseason?) and it seems like any time Moreno was out, the pitching staff forgot how to pitch. Injuries and negative regression to the wrong players at the wrong time along with an inconsistent bullpen (they never really had a closer after Sewald turned into post-1997 Mark Wohlers without the wild pitches) did them in. I can absolutely see 91-93 wins and a playoff return in 2025 with a return to form for the rotation (positive regression) being a big reason for that.
No need for a 23 minute video. Pitching is why we missed it. I don’t like this narrative either. We got in by one game and over achieved. The next year we improved but other teams did well and we missed it by one. No one expected a playoff run in 2023. Our offense and defense were elite. Pitching was just the 4th worst in the league.
A mere 84 wins tells me they were a mediocre team that got lucky. They wouldn’t have qualified for the postseason in any other format before the current one, so they literally only qualified in the first place because of the dumbass watered-down new format. They let too many mid teams in now.

I didn't view the whole thing, but when I saw that the author claims that they were in a three-way tie with the Braves and Padres, that is not true. The two other teams the Diamondbacks tied with were the Braves and Mets, and they lost the season series to both teams.
Yeah that was my mistake 100 percent
It's crazy how they won more games this year compared to their 2023 World Series run and they still missed the playoffs this season.
We had an awesome year. Mets and Padres did a bit more though. Unfortunate for us but can’t hate on either team and have a lot of respect for em.
While it was a disappointing end to the season, the dbacks did not "collapse" this year in the same way the rangers did
with the braves coming off injuries next year the NL east will be just as competitive as the west
Is there a reason E-Rod is getting called a superstar in this video? He has been good, but not a superstar.
11:11 Acuna had 73, Ruiz had 67…. Come on man
Mistake I missed in review - apologies!
The D'backs actually WON 5 MORE GAMES in 2024 than they did in their "World Series" season!
@@ddt3831 Craziest part about all of this!
Wow
they still improved their squad this year. just had a higher barrier of entry to the playoffs
Shouldn’t this be about the Rangers? Also, the D-backs didn’t collapse. They were only one win from returning to the postseason.
Small market WS back to big, MLB all over the place the past 2 years but we love it
Signing monty was hilarious as a ranger fan. Did you not see how hard we rode him? I never fault a player going after the bag. Glad we did not sign him
The 2023 world series opponents: Who can have more injuries the following year
Literally the only competition they played in for 2024 lol
They didn’t collapse yes they did miss the playoffs so did the rangers and our owner said nothing about that
They didn’t loose the bee game. Walk off homer from walker
@@stinger1988 Two things:

It was just our pitching, we didn’t get a fully healthy rotation until a month left in the season.

I like hearing about a team's season, but I prefer a story that is told well. Who is behind Purely Baseball? Was this a script fed to a computer-generated voice? There are so many grammar and pronunciation errors that it was hard to listen, as well as a lot of poor phrasing. I'll have to find something more professional.
i thought it was obvious that it is a.i.
"The City of Arizona" yeah you've lost me lol
@@andrewdillon6871 😂😂😂 yeah I missed that upon review, my mistake
they literally are plagued by the same thing every year. Decent Starting pitching with an absolutely brutal bullpen.
They actually had a better year this year W-L concerned. But still, nice video!
Bro acting like corbins been in the league for 10 years saying he's having his worst season yet like he wasn't a rookie last year😭
They actually won more games this year than last year, so I wouldn't say they "collapsed". Rather, I think the Braves and the Mets did better, especially given that one team had been battling with injuries all year and one team didn't really get going until the Grimace and OMG thing.
Let's talk about the Rangers and how they did this year.
As a Dbacks fan I feel like we did pretty good compared to the Texas Rangers who did horrible despite winning the World Series
Nah.
How is 89 wins a collapse
I have to agree with some others here that it wasn't a collapse. They won more game this year actually and were the top in the league for runs and very high for hits. Did they make some mistakes? Sure. Do they need way better pitching? Heck yes. But it was more like a disappointment in their potential than an overall collapse.
Great video! Music is a little loud btw
Thank you brotha, I really appreciate that!
Definitely noticed that as well with the music. At some moments was good, others it felt the music was louder than me. I’ll work to fix that as we move into the future! 👍🏼
They really didn’t have a bad year just got unlucky in a strong NL
They did better than last year in the regular season, the Mets, Braves and Padres were just better.
Dods and pads in the same division meant it wasnt going to be easy. NL West was the hardest division in the league, no doubts about it.
@@annquach6613 Completely agreed
Funny how the 2024 Dodgers are in similar terms with the 2023 Backs but there are a few differences regardless of no depth pitching
It’s a good thing their offense came though and was clutch, getting a jump 3-0 and taking advantage of their starting pitching really won them that ring
This is gonna happen to the Yankees literally 1 for 1 if we don’t fire Boone and resign soto
@@Le_JYT Completely agree. I could talk for DAYS about NY. In my opinion, Cashman needs to go ALONG with Boone.
Whether that is the fault of Cashman or not, I don't know.
nah the yanks are not beating themselves in this world series. the dodgers are simply shutting them down in every aspect.
i was at the 2012 world series, if you ever get the chance drop everything and just spend the money.
Literally had a better record this season than in 2023, the Dodgers just bought more wins
i mean they were definitely a better team in 24 than they were in 23. Dbacks had the best offense in baseball this year. Pitching was rough but i wouldnt be shocked is montgomery has a bounce back season
@@NRR1234 Do you think Montgomery stays with them though..? I was expecting him to be traded based on the owners comments
Which O's video are you talking about at the end here? It links to a vid about a robot.
Welp I expected to have an Orioles video out BEFORE this D Backs video… but the editor I have on that O’s video is late. ANY day now its coming out tho, 50 minutes long.
@@PurelyBaseballYT Ah I see no worries, I was just super confused. Can't wait to watch and download it!
10:00 they won on a walk off home run
I blame Paul Sewald for the four games he blew in July🤦♂️
Merle Kelly and Yanyo Suarez 😂
I wouldn’t say they collapsed. They were never good to start. Barely made the playoffs, got an easy brewers team, a dodger team that choke and had no pitching. And a Philadelphia team that decided to stop hitting in game 6 and 7. When Philadelphia had their pitch “normal” and their hitters were “normal” they killed AZ.
Bro talking about them like they didnt win 89 games with a positive w/l and were only 1 or 2 games away from another wildcard spot and arguably had one of the better offenses in MLB this year
unlike the Rangers with 78 and a negative w/l even with Yates doing everything to save them 🤣🤣🤣
They didn't lose the bee game Cwalk walked it off
Dbacks fan here in Arizona!
@PurelyBaseballYT thanks for some of the additional clarification. Cant wait for the Rangers video! I will be sure to check it out. This was a good video ngl and I apologize if I was a little hostile. Im also frustrated with the Dbacks lol. Have a good rest of your evening
@@jaredhardaway I appreciate that brotha! Haha all good - i’m the same way regarding the Red Sox! Have a good night man.
Collapsed??? They had an end of season collapse this season, they didn't all of a sudden collapse after playing in the World Series, they performed for most of this season my 14th favorite team in MLB but man Texas won the World Series, never looked like a playoff team this season, and had a losing record for most if not all season like they finished, my 4th favorite team in MLB only bringing that up to show no bias, I guess i could be more disappointed by a team I like better but the facts is facts, the Rangers were already struggling in the beginning when even the Astros were struggling, then couldn't pick it up when the Seattle started struggling
goat :) 🐐
Rip the city of Arizona🥲🥲
I wouldn't say they collapsed, just ran outta magic.
We had 6 more wins this year…
I cant help but notice that you said "they lost in the city of Arizona"
@@DuroNotroh The first time someone commented that, all I did was laugh at myself 😂 Lol my mistake
@@PurelyBaseballYT Lmao
We did not collapse we had injuries we will be better next season
One quick note: the dbacks won the bee game
We didn't lose the bee delay game Christian walker walked it off 🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️
The dback’s run just proves the current playoff system is broken. They should’ve never been in the playoffs to begin with.
Guy's cooking nothing lol

Rangers video is being made already
The D’Backs didn’t lose the Bee game. I was there…they won 4-3
I don’t believe I said they lost it 🤔 That was just a way to highlight the weirdness of that month

Detroit tigers clear by far
@@dagoodistever7186 86 win playoff team VS 89 Win NON Playoff team. LET THE TIGERS COOK 🫡
The dodgers just being shit is the only reason why the Dbacks made it that far, 20 minutes wasn't needed no offense
No need for a 23 minute video. Pitching is why we missed it. I don’t like this narrative either. We got in by one game and over achieved. The next year we improved but other teams did well and we missed it by one. No one expected a playoff run in 2023. Our offense and defense were elite. Pitching was just the 4th worst in the league.
top video
legend 🙏🐐
8:12 how did you pronounce his name 😂😂
They pitched really great in 23. Pitched horrible in 24. Simple as that.
A mere 84 wins tells me they were a mediocre team that got lucky. They wouldn’t have qualified for the postseason in any other format before the current one, so they literally only qualified in the first place because of the dumbass watered-down new format. They let too many mid teams in now.
