Hey. That's my bike! A fine gentleman here in L.A. restored it (and one other) in his garage from the ground up. Unbelievably well handling for a 30 year old bike.
1977 to 1984 I ran a Suzuki franchise and had my pick of any bike/bikes and ATVs to ride. Had both a 1979 and a 1980 version of this GS1000S/Wes Cooley Replica to ride w/o actually having to buy them (demos). Now I wish I had bought both and kept 'em. Great motorcycles...very nice looking paint scheme. In Europe they made 'em Red & White (slick looking too). These old 8 Valve motors were the best of the best!
Had two of these years a go,lovely good style bikes with strong sounding engine,no 14000 rpm here just 8500rpm red line,no screwing them to death too get power?wish still had one.
It was the same our screwed up government here in America tried to do years later by making bike company's make a 700 instead of a 750,My friends 82 GPZ1100 went up to 80 then my 83 KZ1000R went back up to 160! You just can't fix stupid here in America!!
That was a long time ago. I think it was in Venice, California at the Venice vintage motorcycle club rally. I had a 1978 Suzuki GS 1000 but I rode from Colorado to California and back, and it was awesome. This is one of the greatest motorcycles of all time that nobody talks about.
My 1980 ran oil to 300F, had Terrible steering and burned out the 2 middle cylinders into low compression due to running HOT. Worst of the 18 new bikes Ive owned.

It really was a great motorcycle. I had a 1978 GS 1000, and I’m still kind of sad that I sold it.
HAD ONE JUST LIKE IT ... GREAT BIKE...OWNED SUZUKI DEALERSHIP BACK IN THE 70S ...80S GREAT TIMES...K.J.
Very sweet i see one at a bike meet in Illinois in the summer,I have a Eddie Lawson Replica 1983! Love the old bikes!
Rode one just like it back then unreal bike
One of the greatest motorcycles of all time! I have the basic model, and it was good at everything.
My 1000s has 10x the mileage with no VISABLE modifications and the clock still works! Great bike.
+russell harvey I rode a 1978 GS1000 for a few years. It was a great all around bike.
I frequently have notes left on the bike from folks wanting to buy it. It's going to stay in my garage for some time.
Pre-Katana. One of the most beautiful 'standards' of any day.
True!
i recently bought a wes rep and this one puts mine to shame, still working on the 1937 g90

These were really great bikes. I had a regular 1978 GS 1000, and it was good for everything.
Lovely proper bike :)
Mint! love it!

Thanks
I have one as well! Needs a lot of work, though. Just started in on it again. Does anyone have a good source for vintage bike parts?
Weird how the speedo only reads up to 80mph. My GS1000e I had here in New Zealand back in the mid 80's read up to 240km/hr
Cooley! Yoshimura!
