Thank you for giving me the chance to see the house I was born and I was grown up. I am one of the civilian who survived from the heavy bombardment at Varoshia -Ammochostos by the Turkish air force during Monday July 22, 1974 which lasted from morning until 16.00 when the cease-fire started. When the smell of the explosives from bombs was everywhere. Since then I had dreams of my childhood. Now thanks to you I have pictures as well. Great job
I can't imagine the desperation of these people leaving the city in a hurry and losing their properties, I saw that 53% of the tourist revenue was from this city ... Over the years that seems to be a resort for the military ... revolting. But congratulations for the courage, did not be intimidated by these scoundrels. Hugs from Brazil.
You were lucky Peter, my wife and i were arrested in Cyprus by the Greek Military for suspicion of espionage and held in a dungeon in Nicosia for 3 days just for taking some photos of the no go zone on the border, they thought i was spying for the Turks so obviously both sides have always been very sensitive about prying eyes. I have considered going to the North side for a holiday but i think i will give it a miss after watching this video as it looks a bit moody. Be careful mate, youve seen the film Midnight Express? lol
It was in the 90's, Nicosia was split down the middle with a no go zone. My wife and i got married the day before in Limassol. We had to go to the British Embassy in Nicosia to deliver some documents so that our marriage would be registered in the UK. The no go zone was just deserted and ghostly, everything left as it was for years after everything was quickly deserted by its former Greek residents, houses, cars etc. Being a young man i couldnt resist having a little peak and grabbing a few pics. It seemed like a great idea until i had guns pointing at me and was being ordered to stand very still :) at least i can laugh about it now but it wasn't a great situation at the time or a great start to our honeymoon lol
totally agrre with you for personal reasons and very similar conditions... but not getting arrested but... "feeling somebody keeps an eye on"... So yes, Peter was definetely VERY lucky because there more things in the video and that people around him all the time.... so so so lucky
publi edos this was my point when I replied a few videos back saying he needed to respect the information at hand. That information was the many signs stating ‘no videos!’ People have been held against their will in many counties for much less and for many years without a trial. Yes it’s wrong, it’s clearly wrong and it doesn’t need to be justified by breaking their rules military rules. EVERYBODY in the whole world knows about North Korea and their actions against their own citizens let alone visitors to their country. Should that be challenged? Yes. Are you the one to take on that challenge by flying a video in the sky that justifies nothing? What you did here was quite silly and I respect you for squarely preparing and laying your balls on the chopping block. You could have quite easily been thrown in a cell if accused of spying. If you were to be made an example - they could have held you for as long as required with that recording. They could have then used your previous videos content as justification to further prove disdain in their favour with the weight you knew exactly what you were doing and still did it without remorse. You were very lucky Peter!
I visit Cyprus every year and have done for more than 10 years. I’m 15 and love the island. My parents even have a group on Facebook dedicated to it with more than a thousand people in it. My dads aunt and uncle lived in Famagusta. They had one hour to get out of there in 1974🙁 So sad😭
Awais Ali Hiya! I’m in England, but due to visit on June 27th. I’ve been through part of famagusta, for example, Verosha on The Original Red Bus. It’s really Erie but interesting.
Awais Ali no, it is not normal where cars go. Then is I am in about go in slightly, and go to the beach their were it is right next to the border and can clearly see the hotels. I have pictures of inside their. You aren’t supposed to but the person who we are good mates with told us to make it look like we are taking a selfie. The cars are actually the Turkish army soldiers driving from base to base where the lookouts are. Their is a few hotels open there near the beach where only the Turkish soldiers and their families can go on holiday. It is definitely most not normal life.
I will write one more comment watching your video again...... How is it possible at 9.08 to focus at the buildings i was hoping you did?........(not even by request.....lol) i lived my summers there until 45 years ago.......(last summer for us was 1973) May God bless you man....... Hi I lived in Cyprus for a few years when I was a young girl I loved the country I remember coming home from school and was told that we had to leave and I couldn't bring anything back to England with me it was a very sad time for me leaving everything I had
Well, well, well. I am impressed Peter. At last, thanks to you, Peter, we have drone footage further south than the Sandy Beach Hotel. This really is very good. Thank you
Thanks for sharing this footage Peter. I have just read up about Varosha via wikipedia, and I didn't know about this once thriving tourist haven. It's so sad to see this to once prosperous holiday destination turned in to a ghost town. Cheers.
Peter, amazing stuff. And you are absolutely right (and brave) to speak against authoritarian regimes, oppressive laws, and unreasonable limits to freedom.
The Republic Of Cyprus is not an authoritarian regime, it is a democratic government, ranked higher in freedom than the US, UK, and Germany by freedom house.
Hey Peter! an Amazing video! I visited Famagusta a few months back with my wife and I'm in the middle of making a small vlog for our family and friends. I had my Mavic Pro with me but I was a bit scared to fly it here, and now can I see why. I was looking to see if there is there any chance that I could use a few seconds of your footage in my video? just something to help set the scene of the location etc. I'll give you full credit and a link to your channel etc as well. any help would be amazing. Thanks for inspiring. J&A
It is important that you are able to be able to highlight this injustice Peter. I wonder how many people even knew, that this was happening on their favourite holiday island of Cyprus . Thank you my friend :-)
To be honest... I didn't know exactly myself until I went there and learned about it. Now that I know I think it is a big disgrace that this keeps on going on.
I must admit that your take off and landing spot next to the Palm Beach Hotel is about the worst and most brazen positions you could have chosen. It certainly attracted the bees to the honeypot and it is quite hilarious to see the effect that your presence had on them
Superb video - shame on the weasel that grassed you up. Love what you’ve done here & in the previous vid by exposing injustice & giving people like me a portal to their motherland that’s been taken away. You are one hell of a guy & you have a new sub too👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
@ 10:14 , there was movement, did anybody notice two people standing guard within the compound of the highlighted neat area?....what do i know anyway, let me mind my business.
Peter, your explanation of why you published the video is spot on and I agree with you 100%. Also, that man who took pic of your plate number was an enemy collaborator or a spy. The issue is that hopefully you do not have repercusions because they took a pic of your passport. It is very clearly the whole invasion was a planned illegal missapropriation of this huge economical potential tourist area. You have stirred up an scorpions nest my friend. There are obviously huge economical, military and political players in this “dirty business”They must be just waiting for the issue of “The invasion”to cool off to start rebuilding and make A HUGE profit out of this land. Well done Peter for showing to the world this despicable behaviour of Turkey. I think you have found your real call for droning: investigative droning. Get your independent journalist credentials from The Netherlands and keep going Pete. You are awesome!!!
Again ignorance is a bliss but not always. Yet again if you are not in a mental capacity to understand the difference between the Republic of Cyprus and the de facto illegal state of northern Cyprus then we actually do not want you visiting :-) British I suppose... Makes sense
Are you racist? Doing his job. Recording or shooting is illegal in varosha because its a military zone. Appreciate to recording this video but you shouldn't say "specially from a turkish police".

Hi Peter, well you love to take risks but hey that's what this hobby is great for, I enjoy seeing your Videos and being part of your adventures, I learn so much from you about flying my Phantom 4 and watching the way you fly yours gives me more and more inspirations, we don't have the scenery you have in England or the Ghost Citys to fly over but I like many others do enjoy your filming so keep it up, and as I have said before if you need to do a runner from the police, your welcome here, and I am sure many others would offer you sanctury as well. Thanks. If they come after me at my home, I will quickly upload myself to the internet where it will be extremely difficult for them to find me... ;-).
So what happened with the P4's recording? You showed us that it had issues showing that it was recording... was the file complete or missing some parts?
at the 2:06 the Drone Boy is wondering what that black spot is (boat or a rock "haha"). Just to let him know, that is a very small "Rock" and the Varoshians (Βαρωσσιώτες) young Male Swimmers who managed to reach that rock by swimming in order to prove to their sweetheart girlfriend that they are excellent swimmers and do not afraid of waves. This is what my mother told me and used to swim with my Dear Dad, as I was just 1 year old when we abandandoned that fatherland due to turkish atrocities and bombardment. So Dear Drone Boy, as you can see your NOTHING for us means NO-THING is NOT IMPORTANT in that ghost city.
Hello Peter.... just a quick question...Did you watch the movie "Snowden"... just check it and see what happens sometimes... ; ) Just keep being you and your crazy things... Love that..!!
It's a joke that the eu would put up with this a country occupying an eu country. The US britain always have double standards help the kuitat against Saddam Hussein but don't help cyprus turkey has been nothing but agreesors in the middle East look at the Kurds even support Isis when will the west wake up and do something about it
I feel bad I let my family having lunch on the occupied side of Cyprus while going there for few hours. I had my mind made but I gave in...I’m sorry Creeks. But on the positive side it made a positive impact on my 10yr son. He corrects me every time I say “Turks side” it’s not..,.never will be..it’s occupied by Turks. We will never visit Turkey for holidays..I really hope they will be kept out of EU
Do u know EOKA or Bloody Christmas? You Greeks burned all of the Turkish villages and you killed them. You deserve this. Now don't cry like baby. Say your family can they tell to you all of the Turks Genocide from Greeks!
This is fantastic that’s for sharing. I have always been fascinated by Famagusta/Varosha ghost town. Such a shame it is this way, I must have been amazing in its hey day. I hope in my life time it’s fully opened up but I doubt it will in my lifetime
Love watching your videos you do a great job. It also makes me laugh because I don't know what it is with you drone guys.. but with most of your videos. WHEN IT TELLS YOU YOU HAVE TO RETURN TO HOME YOU ALL IGNORE IT 😂😂😂😂😂 I don't think I could do that when flying $1,000 drone... I don't even know if I would fly over water and even take that risk knowing how many things can go wrong.. But nevertheless that's why I watch you guys take the risks getting my popcorn out watching these awesome videos like a suspenseful movie laughing my ass off!!! ;)
Warrior pilot you will never be Peter. There it is important to come unseen to the target, do what you have to do on the spot and then fly unseen away again. Uset means here you have to fly fast and low and not directly back where you are standing. It might be an idea you flew with one of the new quiet Mavic pro and looked around when it's dark. Then you can easily see which houses are in use on the light in the windows. Just remember to cover the lights on your drone with black ducktape before flying. Good story, fly safely.
Well !!! You must be very soft between your ears since you can come up with such a message. Peter can be so unlucky that he will need help to get home by his country's government. And is he's really unlucky, it may happen that a gun goes off accidentally. ;-(
This is a sad story on both sides. I am absolutely sure that the next tourist with a camera is going to prison as a result. Never leave your fate in a stranger's hand.
Like I said in my last message to you peter you are a Dutch National .Tell your experience to your embassy and boycott the occupied north of Cyprus, only go holiday in the free Cyprus 🇨🇾 until we get all our island back as it was before 1974
@@NeverMindYourOwn It's always wise to know, which bear you can poke. For us, non-Turkish people, it's an occupied zone, but to men like Erdogan, it's national pride. He's the same guy, who not only made Putin wait 15 minutes and intentionally recorded in a down to upwards angle to emphasize Erdogan's height advantage even more, but also the same guy, who got permission from the American Secret Service that his men could beat protesters on US soil. Your goals are admirable, and the footage is priceless. As for the "law is the law" it could mean we're slaves to a government. It's something one needs to experience to understand. Once a state disregards treaties on international law and beholds its own citizens as tomorrow's enemy, they stop at nothing to recruit people into their ranks and hassle those who have committed perceived infractions. My father went on a class trip to Berlin, and they were close to Hitler's bunker, only to be turned away by a Soviet patrol (close proximity to the Wall). A few years later another class trip took him and a few of his classmates to the Western border, into the restricted zone. They were arrested for suspected border violation, as minors. As an adult, he wanted to marry a woman from the same restricted zone. To us, he said he didn't want to flee and that it was love, not escaping. He's a douchebag otherwise, but even still he didn't deserve to have a file, but he did, because everyone did who even wrote or talked about slightly misstepping. Just so that people understand, this never meant a file on them, but also wives, girlfriends, on the career options of their children. East Germany outside the USSR went the farthest by actually classifying people into worker and peasant class with the rest being petite bourgeoisie intellectuals or right out class enemies. Meaning I'm very glad it's over as my college and job prospects have been plagued by his file and my ancestors' role in being conscripted in an army fighting the Soviets, oh and having a relative born to my ancestors as they were POWs which meant said relative was eligible to emigrate (opted against it). My old reflexes are showing when you lost your balance coming off of the wall, my initial thought was (yeah the footage got deleted while he was assaulted outside prying eyes).
You'll wait way long to 'get your' island. So called Cyprus Republic has failed 50 years ago after Greek Cypriots decided to capture whole island with Akritas Plan.
Thank you Peter. WOW!! Such a beautiful city. And thanks also for talking about the history that led up to the abandonment. Hopefully this will spark some constructive discussion in that issue. And thanks for the risk 😉 you took dealing with those clowns.
Great video. Hopefully next time you know not to fly a loud drone to get forbidden footage while there are people around. You even got closer to him when you started loosing signal...bad idea. You can't trust people not to rat you out, especially when you're on invaded land.
Wow! What an eye opener, the toe rag fishing was clearly the jealous rat! Another brilliant vid causing huge excitement. Well done Peter, you do us proud! Robert.
I don’t understand why he would call the police on you? What did you do wrong? I’m wanting to buy a drone but gezzz, there seems to be a lot of people who are ready to call the police and for what reasons?
THNAKS YOU PETER FOR THE AMAZING VIDEO... (NOTHING SPECIAL ANY MORE TO SEE FROM VAROSHIA THEY WAY THE MAKE THEM..) But lots of memories for us the people that use to live in this beautiful city..!!! You'r so brave..!!! And you have absolute right..The invate Cyprus, then it was afrin. they genocide armenians.. they trying to do same with the kurds.. after they wondering why we calling them BARBERIANS... AN THEY WANT TO JOIN EUROPEAN UNION AS WELL....????.... NEVER.....!!!! Always more than welcome to the Repuplic of cyprus peter..!! Lots of kisses from a Greek Cypriot friend!!!
Guessing Peter will get some type of reaction from Turkey by revealing this footage, as they took a picture of his passport when questioning him. No state would like to get areas that are in a "no photo zone" revealed like this.
@Random Person You're basically arguing that if Northern Cyprus wants to, tomorrow they declare independence from Istanbul, right up with Peter's drones flying into the pigs who actually believe that. Only UN-recognized entities are states, which the northern part is not.
I wonder if it’s possible to fix one of those buildings and live there without getting in trouble. That would be living golden, No people, Nice beach, Nice Huge Buildings To Yourself with No payments, And It’s a beautiful place.
Try it and see how long you live. The Turks control it and they are not exactly famed for their mercy toward their enemies or their regard for human rights - they will shoot you on sight.
@@serdarerciyas065 i lived in Magusa for a while man, i still remember the “Restricted Zone” Sign ehehehe But still, they should not build around shit that they dont own
Peter, you're a most unusual man. Keep getting into scrapes and marginal situations... you create some of the most entertaining drone footage on YTube. Please don't take a step too far one of these times and end up having a short conversation with a judge followed by an involuntary stay in a compulsory government "hotel" - where there'll be no droning for you!
I wouldn't try going over to the north again after publishing this, especially as they took your passport details etc!The Turkish military are very sensitive about Varosha and at best you will get refused entry at the border or maybe even detained and interrogated and then asked to pay a heavy fine etc!Not that I don't agree with your views about Varosha becausewe have a house there but this is the current situation......
Did they have some remote device to block the recording?? I personally don't go with the slow memory card thing ?? It seems to have stopped soon after the fisherman made the call. Just saying, this is the military and they could have done this.
You can't remotely block something from recording to it's memory card. If the camera was sending a wireless signal to the recorder, the perhaps.. But this is directly connected.
And you are aware of all advanced military technology... ?? Could be a electronic pulse weapon or similar. All I'm saying is never say anything is impossible.

Sorry for your Loss
You do realise we were allowed to go and explore the place before? It’s not been that long since they closed it off to the public
Since August 1974 Varosha is closed for civilians. Only Turkish army officers are allowed to enter the closed city.
if Turkish Army bomb varoshia, could you see your ex house ? of course NO.
What a propaganda... There was not even a conflict in Varosha, you know that too...
Wow, that guys a snitch!
Excuse me? This is my own footage.

So what happened with the P4's recording? You showed us that it had issues showing that it was recording... was the file complete or missing some parts?
What you saw was what the drone recorded. It stopped recording before I flew over the city, because of slow writing on the SD card.
The police deleated the screen record from the Nividia shield. But dont the DJI GO APP save a copy in the app :)
I have that feature off, since it slows down the tablet too much. But I still had the drone footage on the SD-card.

This is what my mother told me and used to swim with my Dear Dad, as I was just 1 year old when we abandandoned that fatherland due to turkish atrocities and bombardment. So Dear Drone Boy, as you can see your NOTHING for us means
NO-THING is NOT IMPORTANT in that ghost city.
Hello Peter.... just a quick question...Did you watch the movie "Snowden"... just check it and see what happens sometimes... ; ) Just keep being you and your crazy things... Love that..!!
Interesting footage of Varosha. Thanks for sharing :)
Opening up very soon Turkish Cypriot government working on rerubishing for tourist attractions
Great video. Bravo Peter.
Fantastic drone footage well done just shows whose watching be careful
Love watching your videos you do a great job.
It also makes me laugh because I don't know what it is with you drone guys.. but with most of your videos.
WHEN IT TELLS YOU YOU HAVE TO RETURN TO HOME YOU ALL IGNORE IT 😂😂😂😂😂
I don't think I could do that when flying $1,000 drone...
Good story, fly safely.
bad advice IMO - he is not trying to do things illegally and wrongful
Like I said in my last message to you peter you are a Dutch National .Tell your experience to your embassy and boycott the occupied north of Cyprus, only go holiday in the free Cyprus 🇨🇾 until we get all our island back as it was before 1974
I think they don't want me back in the North anyways :D.
Evangelos Nicolaou you won't get no island lol... matter of fact, you'll loose the remaining land very soon mr chitos patos doritos lmao
@@istanbullet your existance is a failure.
Thanks for the video! Geopolitics is sooooo stupid at times! I’m glad you posted the video
Why is this city abandoned
Turks invaded it in 1974 and forced everyone to leave at gunpoint
Robert.
Maybe he was thinking he could catch a bigger fish OUTSIDE the water ;-) And yes, he IS a rat!
Lots of kisses from a Greek Cypriot friend!!!
groony30 can you chose what nation youre born this only reason you Call babarians to cencure you history
Glad you decided to publish this footage. Screw them!
So the photographer got photographed , how does it feel ?
Duzzeh.. je hebt je vuurmuur nu goed dichtgetimmerd?
Whats next in the series? The next adventure has to be big to beat this one ;)
I think from now on there will be only boring stuff :P. But... you never know :D.
very cool !!i think you found Dr. Evils secret lair!!
you are da man! - thanks for sharing....
Did you ever find out what happened to this town? That is so bizarre that a town with this many buildings is a ghost town.
muzikmon2267 Still a ghost town. Used to live there. We left the day after bomb hit Hotel we were working.
Hello I appreciate you knowing stuff about the island Cyprus where i live
It’s possible to find now photos of that beach on Pinterest for example Photos at Military beach Varosha lots of pics there
Agree with all your statements and decision to post.
They've started letting people back in the city under strict orders not to enter the buildings, so there is much better "legal" footage now.
THIS PLACE IS CYPRIOT ‼️
Turkey has no history.
Turkey through criminal dialogue ‼️
🇨🇾🤜🤛🇬🇷
Thanks for the amazing video mr Peter 🙏
Guessing Peter will get some type of reaction from Turkey by revealing this footage, as they took a picture of his passport when questioning him. No state would like to get areas that are in a "no photo zone" revealed like this.
Yeah but the thing is that this is not a state...
NeverMindYourOwn How isnt Turkey a state/country?
For the record... Google it. There are TONS of pics and video footage out there of the EXACT SAME THING. Nothing new or hidden.
@Random Person You're basically arguing that if Northern Cyprus wants to, tomorrow they declare independence from Istanbul, right up with Peter's drones flying into the pigs who actually believe that. Only UN-recognized entities are states, which the northern part is not.
Also surprised you wasn’t caught since only 6 people are aloud to use drones in the Island. I know one of the 6 who are aloud to.
I wonder if it’s possible to fix one of those buildings and live there without getting in trouble. That would be living golden, No people, Nice beach, Nice Huge Buildings To Yourself with No payments, And It’s a beautiful place.
Are you daft? It's a no go zone and you would be arrested.
Try it and see how long you live. The Turks control it and they are not exactly famed for their mercy toward their enemies or their regard for human rights - they will shoot you on sight.
EXCELLENT JOB...!!!!
Awesome! a eye in the sky...😍 👍💥
10:12 this is the Officer’s Club inside the buffer zone
the area belongs to Turkish soldiers and video recording is strictly prohibited
The area belongs to the republic of Cyprus and the Turkish military has no jurisdiction or right to be there. In fact their presence there is illegal.
@@serdarerciyas065 i lived in Magusa for a while man, i still remember the “Restricted Zone” Sign ehehehe
But still, they should not build around shit that they dont own
@@stelioscs now the city is open for tourism you know? Thats a bigger pain in the back
Certain military and their families are allowed to go on holiday inside the ghost town at certain parts of the year
brave and smart from your side ! very interesting and meaningful video
Brilliant. Why do you care if the copper says "if a video comes on the internet..."? What's he going to do? Toothless. Publish as much as you can!
As long as I can take a camera with me :P.
As a Turkish, i can say you were extremely brave to capture this video :)
Clickbait... LOL. Have you been watching my videos Peter?
Ha ha. I was inspired :D. We are testing your theory here :P.
Wow amazing ...ilove your drone
Well done. Enjoyed this little project and hope that somehow it will be given back to previous occupants. Stay safe and safe flying.
Let's hope this super sensitive video stays up LOL
Subscribed dude - you should fly a drone from the Rock of Gibraltar
Wow. This is great Peter. This is very intense Peter. Will like to know what happen next. Wow
Very brave. Bravo. Phantom is hell of a drone, very responsive. I think, flying better then mavic. Thanks
That's crazy all that real estate.
Kapalı Maraş- Varosha, Now it reopens 😍😍
I wouldn't try going over to the north again after publishing this, especially as they took your passport details etc!The Turkish military are very sensitive about Varosha and at best you will get refused entry at the border or maybe even detained and interrogated and then asked to pay a heavy fine etc!Not that I don't agree with your views about Varosha becausewe have a house there but this is the current situation......
Shame that most of the beach is in shade from the hotels.
i wonder what activity go on down there i bet probly gambling prostituting and slavery and drugs
Did they have some remote device to block the recording?? I personally don't go with the slow memory card thing ?? It seems to have stopped soon after the fisherman made the call. Just saying, this is the military and they could have done this.
I had this a couple of times more during my trip. It also said 'slow writing' or so in the app.
I went there a few years ago and it’s so sad
so many homeless people and all these buildings are empty its sickening
Hey! I can see my house from there!
Greeks destroyed the seaside with the buildings.. It could be more beautiful.. may be in future...
Way to go, are you in the same spot as before, but out in front. Great job.
