BC neighbourhood fed up with unwanted Uber Eats deliveries

- Uber Eats has become a helpful tool for ordering food when stuck at home or just craving that burger from a favourite restaurant, but residents of a New Westminster, B.C. neighbourhood are fed up because they've been receiving deliveries they never ordered.
From large orders like 10 bags of McDonald's to small like a single order of gravy, the residents and even police were left puzzled.
As Travis Prasad reports, whether it's someone's idea of a prank or something more sinister, residents are fed up.

I was thinking the same Thing, like first off it's free food, and secondly if you don't want it then give it to the homeless.... Hell I know families who have a hard time affording food and have kids, they would love getting free food.
That makes too much sense. There would be spending energy on that that way they won't be on the news if they did that.
If it kept happening, yeah probably safe to donate it. But its similar to receiving a package by mistake...if you just keep it, you're technically stealing, so I could see some folks being hesitant.

As an Uber driver I can tell you that in newer neighbourhoods the GPS doesn't know where the addresses are. I had one yesterday that took me to a completely wrong house. I however contacted my customer to ask where I might find their house. There are a number of new neighbourhoods going up in my city and so I have to contact customers regularly to find them or I contact Uber support through the app. If drivers are just following the pin on their map it's their responsibility to verify the address before dropping off.

I drive for DD / Skip and use Google maps for my directions...does UE send directions there?
while not perfect, Google usually gets me close enough to the persons house.

What's wrong with taking the food to the homeless? That's what I do whenever I have a lot of food leftover or a messed up order.
Most full-time working humans, like this woman is, do not have the time to load up their car every day and head down to the Downtown Eastside and try to hand out cold, old fast food.

As a former homeless person, stop telling ppl to give it to the homeless. No we don't always want your strange random crappy fast food any more than you do--that's not a solution.

I understand getting a ton of deliveries constantly that aren't yours Could get annoying. However, if nobody comes to claim the items then it's yours at that point like just eat the free food or give it to the homeless people. I don't know like there's got to be something
I know that it can often be difficult or confusing when customers don't specify where exactly their apartment is located. Sometimes the GPS will take me to the wrong location and I have to contact the person who ordered it to specify... However, I'm with DoorDash, not Uber eats.
Meanwhile my customer is reporting the order as not delivered 😆🤣
I handed a guy his items to his face through his front door and he said "thank you very much," then marked it undelivered.

OMG easy solution. Take all those Uber deliveries and share them with the neighbors and eat all of them.

this never has happened to me although some days i wish it would lol. the cops not wanting to do anything nothing new, although like many of us the cops would love to tell these people to shut up and take the free food lol. i am sure their neighbors world love it if they would share i am sure there are poor people living not far from these complainers who would love to receive the free food.

It was the app’s problem; I remembered I delivered to the same customer twice on Friday; I went back to the restaurant they said the first one was cancelled.
But that doesn't explain why so many orders would go to one home incorrectly.

Last week the story was about people not being able to afford food. This week it's about people upset about getting free food. Does anyone see any workable solution to the problems being reported?
I think maybe a thousand people living on kraft dinner in NWest may see this non story and just come get it daily as well as anything else left out. Problem solved, LOL!
I had one from Delivery Dash. I figured it was because DD almost always messes up by order so they just messed up someone else's. I don't use DD anymore. North Carolina.
This is credit card fraud. I'm a driver and this happens a lot. They're doing this with Walmart orders too.

Example Apt A 100 then on the second floor Apt A 200 and third floor
Apt B 100 in another floor

The drivers are running a scam, pretty obvious. Order a bunch of food on stolen cards and collect delivery fees + tips. I bet that McDonald’s is just down the road and they’re doing it all day
The Uber Driver app and algorithm doesn't work like that. It also yields little financial return for that amount of fraud.

Either there's an error in the app that causes it to enter the wrong address, or someone's using the address with the intent to take the food from the location.
Since so many are coming from McDonalds, I would go into the nearby stores and talk with the manager about the issue. They could stop deliveries to that address.
The police aren't taking it seriously enough nor actually doing a few simple things they could do, like going to the restaurants and finding out what credit card numbers were used to make the deliveries with.
Bahahahahaha I had a piece of heavy equipment stolen and the police refused to review street light camera footage. I highly doubt they’re going to investigate free food being given to someone.
Police aren't gonna waste their time on this, it's food, now if the food was poisoned or laced then they would interfere, but at this point they don't see the harm.
It's free food , if you don't want it then give it away to the homeless or to the families who have a hard time affording food and have kids who are probably hungry.
That's not how this works. McDonald's doesn't know the addresses it's all in the app. McDonald's might be one of the only places that deliver out to a new neighborhood.
No, the stores do not have access to the address the order is for. I remember working at a restaurant and I did to go orders, the resturaunt has no customer personal information besides name and the food order itself. You have to contact Uber eats/doordash and they have to sort it on their end.

Easiest solution:
Get in contact with a local food bank and give em a ring when u see a bag on your porch. Would take the same amount of energy used to complain on t.v, complain to Uber, and complain to your friends, family, and colleagues.

What you expect, look at that massive apartment complex. The name should be on the receipts also the delivery driver name also. Most likely you gotta e-mail em if you can't get through on phone which is almost all the time.
