    Hi, Lisa. I'm a Guitar Performance Major and I'm taking an Ear Training course this summer (1 year to go!) and I'm incorporating your teachings with our solfege requirements and I think it's giving me the bump I need to reinforce this stuff. By the way, YOU ARE AMAZING!! Your energy is soo infectious, positive, and FUN! You're not only teaching fundamentals and technique but you're also giving a WORLD-CLASS lesson on "HOW TO TEACH". Wishing you well and much success with your channel. Big loves from the PNW! Best. -p

    You actually kill me with your teaching techniques. I've improved greatly for the last 4 months. For the last more than ten years, just playing with the keyboard, I was never taught either scales or even anything of the sort. I was only playing three chords timidly not knowing what inversion are.

    You can figure out any major scale by playing the root note, and then you play 2 whole steps, 1 half step, 3 whole steps, and then 1 more half step lands you back on the root note.

      3-4; 7-8. Between 3rd and 4th note there is a half step. Same for 7 and 8th note. This is how I leaned it. For minor it is 2-3; 5-6

    Hey Pianote! I absolutely love your videos❤❤, they're some of the best free piano classes on the web and have really helped me. I don't know if you're gonna see this, but if you do, could you maybe make a video on how to make instrumental melodies that are different than the vocal melodies of a song? In popular music there will often be a guitar or piano that plays a melody throughout the song that is different from the melodies the singer is singing, yet it fits(like Shallow by Lady Gaga or Never Enough by Loren Allred). As an aspiring singer ane songwriter that would be super helpful cause there are no videos about that on YT

    thank you...it's like anything else, we forget the techniques unless someone brings it to our attention...if one does not practice properly, bad habits will form and sometimes harder to correct because it's been ingrained in your playing...even sitting properly and hand positions i have to remind myself...thank you...btw, i love your haircut!

  • @pianofun2763
    @pianofun2763 2 роки тому

    On fingerings: generally speaking, you want to use the black keys to set up the thumb. Meaning, if you are in B flat major the fingering would be: 4(Bflat) - 1 - 2 - 3(Eflat) - 1 - 2 - 3 - 4. With D major it is: 1 - 2 - 3(Fsharp) - 1 - 2 - 3 - 4(Csharp) - 1/5. A flat major: 3(Aflat) - 4(Bflat) - 1 - 2(Dflat) - 3(Eflat) - 1 - 2 - 3. This would be basic rules for fingerings in scales, avoid the thumb on black keys. On her fingering example in B flat major: It certainly is easier to start with the second finger, i would still recommend to start with 4th finger there, as to create a repeating pattern. If you only practice one octave of scales one would also leave out the more difficult 4 - 1 tuck of the thumb. With arpeggios you apply the same concept, avoid the thumb on black keys, only exception being F sharp/G flat major and E flat/D sharp minor. Beginners may want to try to play the minor keys with the fingering of their relative majors, just start on the other location meaning in B minor: 3(B) - 4(Csharp) - 1(D) - 2(E) - 3(Fsharp) - 1(G) - 2(A) - 3(B). WHen you play your pieces you will use a unique fingering anyway, use scales and arpeggios as practice for clever fingering, speed and knowledge of accidentals.

    ... Hmmm maybe ...
    1)Guitar / Bass practice slot, scales
    2) Keys practice slot, triad inversions
    3) Singing practice, arpegios
    Thinking just rotate these each day (guitar & bass get arpegios the next day). I'll experiment with this, so I uhm cut corners a bit on practice (gotta sleep at least half whats recommended hehe)
    This could probably help avoid going into autopilot by using the DRY principle (don't repeat yourself)
    Will experiment with this starting tonight (will add a very mild warm-up for each).
    Then maybe have additional per instrument drills. Before moving to the repertoire/composition/improv stuff, which I'll also lump together.
    Anyone tried this? Any ideas, thoughts, suggestions?
    Edit: Was too excited ... Thank you so much for making us all able to glimpse at pianoheaven :)
    Seriously, these vids change intimidating into exciting. A shiny guiding light on the infinite octave twisty maze of music.
