These defects glitches and dysfunctions are precisely what prevented me from buying the 14th anniversary pack. It’s like buying a used car. You’re buying into problems. I don’t want to do that right now.
the major problem (from my point of view) is that there is no communication from the community manager.even if he acknowledged it it would be something.
@@MCStuthi is why in thei last community video where they did show us how they fix bugs in live video I left the comment "spaghetti" Shaka, when the walls fell. Refering to their game coding which is worse than spaghetti :D Like u leave ur car at mechanic shop and they fix the issue but they always made new ones so u must keep coming back - I noticed the same pattern with Cryptic last few mnths with every bug fixed 10 more arose - and its getting piled up so much that I am afraid they wont be able to fix spaghetti this time at all
If you talk to Kael (Mike Fatum) and tell him about the bugs all he will do is mock you to his co-workers when you make valid points like (who cares about a 7th remaster of the Odyssey class when the game is unstable or the entire interior is a graphic nightmare, ground combat sucks, it plays WORSE than a PS2 game)
On the note of "the product should work" (rant warning): The recent stream where Kael got snappy and told us they don't owe us anything... They do though. A lot. There are players who've put in over $1000.00. Those of us who've spent money on the game are damn well owed something we're not ACTING entitled... We actually ARE entitled to a working product. At least a consistent level of broken. SO yeah... The product should work and we are damn well owed something by them. Period. That's what PAYING for a serive or product gets us. Just saying... The state of the game and the fact he said they don't owe us... Pissed me off and I'm not an entitled kid or anything. I'm an old guy who wants something for his money. What a bunch of jerks we are for being demanding about such a thing. If McDonalds gives you a burger full of pencil shavings you can get some SEEEEEErious entitledmensts if you catch my drift. Here... We get pencil shavings and told to shut up and eat them because they don't owe us anything.
Lol the CM said that? Literally the opposite is true. They owe you everything, if by everything we're talking about the product being sold as STO. Acting like having a functioning game is some unreasonable ask is definitely a sign of serious cultural problems at the studio. Entitled gamers, more like entitled developers.
If that really happened and he actually said that, it's very very unprofessional, apart from being complete nonsense. I agree it might be due to personal issues and frustration. But even then you should try to go out as a great guy, not a dick.
They owe us a functioning product. Without us ST fans, there is no game, means, no job for them, and no salary. And most people paid at least for the EC cap unlock. Making them, including me, and I bought some other things as well, paying customers. And customers are what counts, because they will keep spending money. How hard is this to understand. Our whole economy is based on product/service for money.
I found this happens most for me when it forces me into a temporary ship like that god awful solanae ship or the crappy ambassador. I have taken to saving my loadouts after EVERY little change to try to avoid having to reslot everything.
I haven't experienced this bug since I stopped being lazy and naming ALL of my loadouts "Loadout 1" on every character. Could be coincidence but it hasn't happened once since then.
If you go to the skills tab, then go down to the individual boff, you can select the skills they have as their default. That way when you slot them it'll already have what you want, which should help you save a few seconds.
I also found a bug in STO the day before yesterday when I leveled up a new character and played some missions. In the mission "Sphere of Influence" I had a problem with a puzzle towards the end: At the end in the Dyson Sphere, when everyone gathers on a platform and wants to reconfigure the controls to activate the portals and then escape through a portal onto a ship. The puzzle to be solved here usually involves a series of symbols (red, green, yellow and blue) appearing in random order. This must be reproduced. However, the symbols were not displayed and I was unable to solve the puzzle. No matter which symbol I chose, I was shown the messages "Correct", "Incorrect" and "Repeat" one after the other. After trying for about an hour, I was able to solve the puzzle at random and continue the mission. I don't know if the error is reproducible, but maybe someone else has noticed it too.
What are the chances I would read this comment while doing the Sphere of Influence mission? Just in the intro dialogue in the volcano portal room, lol.
Had same problem and reported it but doubt it will get fixed anytime soon but my kdf recruit can't complete there part of the kdf recruit thingy oh well there are other missions I can finish ...I hope😢
@@outlawedTV88 I was responding to this part of the OP's message: "I don't know if the error is reproducible, but maybe someone else has noticed it too." Other people did notice, a dev has confirmed it and it is being worked on. I do get your sentiment though, it's just one of many reasons I'm not playing the little Red Alert ATM, and am even reconsidering bothering to do the Event Campaign's part next week.
Main problem is the testing. They will look at the new content, does it do what it is supposed to do on it own? Yes, right release it. They don’t test the new content/fixes to see how they will interact with the rest of the game before throwing it out to the live server. How many times have we seen patch notes telling us ‘this great new content’ and then right below it in the known issues section is most of what they are about to release. Cryptic didn’t fix anything until it impacted their bottom line. I’m extremely hopeful that Deca will have the right people to work through and resolve a lot of this. We can say the guys at cryptic have done a good job for x years, and for the most part they have. But during those x years the same issues occurred time after time. Fresh blood and new ideas may be the best thing for the game. I’ll play until the servers blow up, but investing money will be solely down to how Deca resolves bugs, interacts with the community and content they release
There’s an annoying bug with the mission sphere of influence it’s annoying the red/blue/green/yellow symbols don’t appear so i can’t do the mission it’s so annoying
I just did this mission on my Klink toon since id been missing out on all the bonuses with the recruitment ... I freaked out when it didnt show the sequence ... I thought I did something wrong, so I clicked whatever and it accepted it, No pattern, almost as if it auto-completed that segment.. Thank god I dont plan on leveling up another toon any time soon.
The big guys on social media (You, Spencer, Augie, etc) have to keep the pressure on and maybe it’s time to stop being so nice. The “I don’t mean to complain“ comments have to stop. You/we absolutely have the right to complain. You said it yourself, we invest in this game. Whether it’s time, money or both, this is our game. And for Kael to sit there and act like he did in this last stream was abysmal. That was the definition of entitlement.
You definately are not being elitist. When I played STO I never chased stats but you paid for the build you have or for most of it I imagine, including for the ships and much of the gear and crew you own. The bare minimum to expect is for it to work so you have every right to call this out. In fact for newer players that dont know about this stuff its even more important because they could be seeing huge DPS and performance in combat dips even on story missions with gear they have paid for and are totally oblivious and dont understand why they are slapping and the next time they are barely able to keep up.
So much for a Smooth Transition into DECA. Lag, Rubber banding, and then all people in Pugs want to play is Borg TFO's or Universals all day long (Adv). Personally getting sick and tired of it all myself. Recently just purchased a Life time sub. . . . Like you I am just doing the daily Endeavor or Jupiter Gauntlet to test builds. Another thing to look out for is missing Traits Space/Ground, Duty Officers and in very rare cases Bridge Officers when switching ships, and speaking of switching ships I have to do that in ESD etc, If I do this in space for some reason I lose all Bridge officers assigned to that ship when either going into a TFO or changing maps (Hitting your Saved Loadout Button doesn't work), causing me to have to fall back and put every one back in place along with the abilities back in the tray.
I have felt exactly the same with this game for years. I returned to the game around the beginning of 2023, and while i had a ton of fun, i left around the time when they introduced the second layer of t6 ship upgrade tokens, or whatever, since that was too much for me. This was my favorite MMO back in the day, but it felt really unpolished for years. Whenever i played, some annoying bug was always present, to ruin the immersion for me. Broken animations, missing visual or sound effects, broken stats, you name it. So yeah, i understand your frustration. Its sad that this is the biggest Star Trek game, and we barely have any choice. Although i recommend the Sins mod, "Star Trek Armada 3", while its an RTS and not a TPS, it can help with your Star Trek itch.
I've been experiencing a lot of problems with my loadouts lately. When I click on them, nothing happens. I even spent 10 minutes redoing all my trays, saving them again, and then did a map transfer, but my skills were all messed up. So, I tried to use the loadout again, but still, nothing happened. It's really frustrating to play this game sometimes.
This I hadnt noticed, ty for the heads up. The problem I've been having is when i switch maps the game empties out my traits depending on what map i go to, ground on ground maps or space on a space map. It doesn't happen every time, but often enuf to be dang annoying.
It might sound a bit like I'm playing devil's advocate here, but breaking, especially the basic stuff, by adding new code is surprisingly easy to do, and at times quite hard to spot at a glance (happens to me more often than I'm comfortable to admit)- I can understand that's even more of the case with 14 years worth of patches and updates made by different people. Then again, I feel like a big studio should be able to deal with such situations better than a fumbling amateur like me:)
I think they should have more people to help focus fixing the bugs first. On console I have to check to see if this is happening but there are things I would like to see fixed.
I’ve noticed in the past some ship traits not showing a change when slotting and using them but we also don’t have test targets available to us to use either. Around Deep Space 9 the background glitches in a certain area. Sometimes weapon firing modes do misfire and do not work have to wait for cooldown. Badlands when you capture all areas one of the three bases sometimes gets stuck and you can’t complete it. There’s probably more but that’s what I can think of at the moment. Haven’t checked the doff officers yet though maybe we will get that glitch later?
One problem with the game that is recent for me is the following. If I try to do the sphere builders TFO anywhere else other than earth space dock I will get the message failed to connect. That is frustrating to say the least. I should be able to do that TFO anywhere I want to do it.
it's never going to be fixed the way it is now. You saw the podcast with jessie fixing bugs on their files. When you don't have a system that allows you to check for interactions and effects of the changes you make, there will always be bugs.
These are mostly a rehashing of old problems and you can expect more as the old guard leave and the new take over and having to learn from their mistakes. I'm finding other games to play in he meantime and working on cleaning up, upgrading and leveling. There is always something else to do even if it is not what you wanted to do.
I've lost all my ship loadouts recently...despite religiously saving my loadouts in sector space, and readying my ships in space dock. I hope DECA seems this and adds this kind of tuff to the 'to do' list!...
The game is just piles of spaghetti code. Every patch breaks something, been that way since release (and yeah, I've been around since then. I'm a very casual Lifetime Acct holder). I mean, you talked about quests, but some of those are broken too. The big one right now is the first one of the Solenae arc, the Simon says puzzle doesn't work, the 'clue' you're supposed to copy doesn't appear, stonewalling progress. That one's been broken for a few weeks now....
@@MCStuJust read the patch notes for 3/14. "Resolved an issue sometimes preventing some Bridge Officer Traits from consistently applying to captains." Really hope they're talking about this...
When STO released the Guillotine TFO with the King and Queens story arc. Mostly for about a week I couldn't complete the next phase of Guillotine, we (the TFO team) will do the first part with the anchors (only getting to anchor 5) and they would bug out, see nothing is working then, drop the TFO and go onto another one. It was frustrating.
Ship modules are showing incorrect stats all over the place. My impulse engines should be saying flight speed 27, but it often shows 18.1 in every map except a few times. Sometimes if there's a map cut, my engines will show 27.1, 18.1, 22, 15. All in the same mission, just different portions of the mission.
Best part of you showing this, what was the last 10 Forward Stream with Ambassador Kael they were so proud to show off “Jesse Fixes a bug” I think They missed one, an important one.
There are more important fixes imo: rubberbanding, lag, BOFF always running between you and your target, Mission bugs (including PvEs), unbalanced skills,....and it would be great, if numbers shown stay the same if you are in space or on ground. I also find the "+%" things confusing, as some items with same percent bonus give different bonuses.
i started a kdf recruit and the last 3 missions in a row ive played have been bugged to the point where they cant be created. the dyson sphere missions, all of them glitched and unfinishable
No need to apologize Stu, you have every right to be pist off. We all do. It's not being negative to point out the obvious stuff we all hate. Every time I select a new ship my inventory goes crazy, sometimes I lose consoles pernetly. Best way to send a message is to stop giving them our money and play less.
if you have a spare loadout, can you save a loadout with no BO and then when you enter a map change to the new loadout and back to the orignal loadout - ofc only if you have a spare loadout
In normal space, confirm your numbers are where you want them. Then save loadout 3 times. Then swap maps & save loadout one more time. That may work to retain the #s. Otherwise, you may need to change binary values within registry editor.
I've not played STO in probably 18 months or so since I moved house, but I'm sure i remember my Critical Hit and Severity having a similar issue back then .. Was around about the time that jellyfish looking ship was one of the summer rewards I believe ...
My friends have been rubber banding and the game lagging so bad they can barely play. It's getting stupid how many issues there are and there's no communication. When try put in a ticket they get to update launcher and their launchers are fully updated too.
I've been playing for a couple years now. My connection has been crashing a lot lately so I can't even do dailies sometimes. Part of the problem is my internet crapping out. I will at least wait until the transition to DECA is completed and see if they address these issues before making any permanent decisions.
I was in the beta I was going to get back in I believe I paid the one time fee for the lifetime membership now its free to play , so do you believe I should start up again ?
I opened a lot of those lock box things and won a T6 ship. I opened the ship and selected what one I wanted and the game crashed. I didn't get the ship and Tech Support doesn't seem able to find a record of for it. :( I raged quit. It's been a few since I've last played.
Quite frankly, most of you guys that do STO content are far more even handed than I am. You're absolutely right, the amount of problems this game suffers from is inexcusable given A.) the length of time it's been around, and B.) the kind of money they're asking for when one does decide to buy in. Id go so far as to say the whole "but you can play for free!!" Is really just a shield to ward off criticism. It's patently absurd, and you are absolutely right to note that if this wasn't Star Trek, most wouldn't be here. This thing probably would have shuttered by now. Personally, I don't feel anything about the transition from Cryptic to DECA any more than I did from Atari to PWE to Embracer. I don't want anyone to lose their jobs, but some of this just smacks of sheer incompetence. This bug in particular is an old one. Exactly two types of BOFFs are worth slotting in ships, and both take a bit of work to get. That they don't even function is asinine.
Something similar to this has been happening since the end of the winter event, for me. I have no idea if this is it as it's been intermittent. But some alts and even my main were having DPS issues randomly before this. I thought they upped the difficulty after the elite random patch. Because even advanced was proving difficult sometimes.
Hello STU, I've been playing Star Trek online via the console for many years and been noticing that the PC version usually gets new updates first before the console does so my question is it worth my time starting over again via PC even with all the known bugs and unfortunate mishaps when an update is available? I could just continue via console but what does the PC version offer more than the console version?
For any long term player, PC is the best route. - New content is here weeks/months sooner - Endgame scene is much more developed - Can use third party tools like combat parsers, which means you can dive more into ship builds/performance chasing at endgame.^ - Much more control over your build and abilities.
I always wondered why only some of the BOff traits stack. I know that SRO has always stacked, but I wonder if that's been a bug all along and they've accidentally "fixed" the bug while working on something else.
It really is a new issue every week. Some of them can be funny, like the Rex leaving its impulse engines behind warping out...but then others truly are game-breaking.
I thought it was just me. I ran a TFO with combat log on and the results did show what I should have for crit chance instead of what was showing on ship stat screen.
This is definitely something that some sort of automated testing would (should) have caught. I'm guessing Cryptic don't bother with unit testing or any integration testing at all.
I think they have lost interest in developing the game. A reccuring bug that really gets me is when you beam up to your ship in sector space and instead of seing your ship, your toon is floating in space and going to warp. That's been going on for months and I even tried reinstalling the game after talking to tech support. Nobody seems to know how to fix it. I know it's ramdom but it shows they no longer care
I wish I had those 'problems'. Since trying to 'play' STO, it's more a battle to stay connected, as almost every map change = server drop. Not 'lag' but straight out dropped connection at the server side. ARC and Cryptic just ignore it as usual.
Login, do my dailies, log out... That's essentially what I've been doing for 5+ years. _(then I go play a real game)_ 😆 It doesn't sound like Cryptic or Deca are going to give me any reason to do more than that. 🤷 This game has been on essentially maintenance mode for years. And it's a 2nd reason why I haven't given them money for years either. I've been LTS since the game launched and I'll be here till they turn it off. But in no way is it my primary game anymore.
Is this a display error or is it actually affecting runs? Is it specific to Watchers, or all officers? Does in map jumps like Romulan Minefield trigger the bug?
There are a lot of bugs aside from this one. Getting logged off because the server lagging out yet YOU get the blame as user instead. Yes I had this happen to me where I ask for this to be fixed and a official answer is that I had to check the connection on my side as theirs would be fine and no server issues present. There are story missions that are very broken, take "Researcher Rescue for example where the space station part is glitching constantly. I tried this mission on 4 different machines and had exactly the same results for at least 5 years, I did report it and to this day it hasn't been fixed. There is "The Doomsday Device" mission as well where you are forced to use a Klingon ship which forces you to change the skill bar, yet when you get on your own ship again you will notice it breaks your own loadout for some stupid reason. "Sphere of Influence" seems to have this same problem going on. For the last one this happened from the moment the mission became available publicly, so they must have known about it for years and still didn't bother fixing their mistakes. To make matters worse, even brand new missions such as "Scorpion's Abyss" seems to have complete show stoppers in it where you can't progress any further. This at the moment you need to take down and assimilate Starfleet officers but instead of allowing you to do so it blocks you from completing that task constantly making it extremely hard and difficult to get that mission completed. Then we have the ship skill bar and ship itself that keeps getting messed up on and off. Instead of fixing it properly they seem to duct tape it and think it will hold. Then tell you as player to use the load option for your ship WHICH IS BROKEN TOO! There is also a bug where the overflow bag doesn't function properly, it does hold the items but you can't seem to get it out. This is of course the DOFF's that have this issue. Yes I make sure I can actually receive them and didn't hit the limit on that toon, I keep donating to the fleet as well, which doesn't seem to be a problem somehow, so yeah this bug is annoying as you can't close that stupid window unless you close your inventory. These are just a fraction of the bugs and issues in this game, likely part of the monitization bs of "what can we get away with to empty wallets" bs. Yet never actually doing anything about it to fix this sh**. Am I pissed off? yes, Am I constantly thinking of leaving? Yes. Am I bothering with adding real money to get new things? NO! They clearly don't deserve it as they rather do bs like this and not fix it then being a decent developer that does something positive with it. And ps, I am no fan of the newer missions becoming so insanely long while becoming increasingly so difficult that it's hard to do them solo. I don't mind the fact that missions can take hours, but ffs at least make them bug free and make damn sure you give excellent rewards for it. "Sphere of Influence" used to give very rare AP beams from your second run forwards. This was good as it would promote playing that mission more often and with a decent mood as you would be getting something worthy. But they nerved this and now you get for some reason Phaser beams instead that are GREEN. WHY????
Sphere of influence mission has a bug where you have a colour code puzzle. This part of the mission is broken and has been for awhile and hinders 100% progress of Recruit toons
Some issues that would be great to have fixed or addressed Make ship combat more impactful and ship flight more dynamic. Less 2 dimensional flight and more flight like we get with games such as Bridge commander. Less insta kills with super phasers and more lengthy battles with less total ships. Give interiors an overhaul and starship interiors relevance, have docking with stations start you on your bridge and require you to move through your interiors to get to the airlock, this would also allow people to check out your interiors too. Completely redo ground combat because it's just awful and buggy rn. Ditch the gamble boxes for special quests that can be completed to earn the special ships, make the quests difficult or require resources that aren't easy to obtain but make the ships more accessible in the long run. Basically just slam the brakes on story content and take time to go through and overhaul the game, hell even just re-releasing a next gen version for series X/S, PC and ps5 would be nice as there would be less limitations on what could be done.
Yup, I built my ship as a proton boat, and in patrols it does amazing. As *soon* as I switch to a lower level tfo, it does like no damage. Now I know what to look out for, thanks!
I understand what you mean. I haven't played STO for a couple of years, and I'm one of those who has spent a lot of money and got a lifetime membership a few years ago. I'm starting to play a little and feel like I have to learn everything over again. I hope the game issues will finally get fixed.
I didn't pay attention to my stats, but I noticed my "Watcher" wasn't triggering Fire at Will/Command. I stiwched to a Nausicaan tac & immediately saw the proc
There's a lot of game breaking bugs that are yet to be resolved. For some reason, my ship has been randomly insta-killed in a lot of battles lately and i don't understand why.
I get that a decent amount, it wouldn't even be too bad if it disconnected you quick so you could get right back in, but it takes a while to even boot you.
@@MCStu A trick I have been doing is daily selling off my refined dill form my 12 level 65s because we know it is not going to stay at 500 pretty much indefently. This way I can always sell zen and emedetly get my dill back but I would wait 4 to 7 days to sell dill
I played this game with breaks in between since 2010. I used to be a number chasers and parsing a lot in the past. But at some point I stopped caring about it. Once getting past a certain point being able clear a TFO just 10s faster doesn't make it more enjoyable. So when I build me ships I look at ships with an interesting theme, console or innate ability. Something that is fun as well as effective. For example I build my relatively new legendary Akira around a combination of torpedos and beams, even took the name of another Akira that briefly appeared in Picard S3. Or my inner roleplayer just writes a short character backstory. Even when I don't actively roleplay and few people would read the bio and even fewer would care.
Reminds me of the bugs in Windows, the same thing every time an update comes out that changes something or updates to something new something else breaks. It's just a joke and Microsoft is a big company. I've been playing the game for years, I'm not going to stop playing right now, because I'm addicted to the game and I have a main character maxed leveled after years of grainding. I hope they fix all these annoying little bugs including a very famous lag bug. Thanks for the update Stu. the trail never ends..... see you out there...
I do not hope you stop, your the only channel for me to go to about this game. So hope you want to wait for Deca. What is Cryptic going to do ? are they still there or are will they be gone ?
i got a bug where i cant dismiss bridge officers and i dont know how to fix it any one got any idea, cause i type the name and then hit dismiss and they are still there, ive tryd rebooting, changing instance, hard starting, nothin cant find how to fix it on google either
the mission Sphere of Influence minigame in the Dyson sphere has been broken since at least August of last year, u can't complete the story or Delta Recruit arc for that until it's fixed. It's ridiculous.
thats the funny thing- its not broken for everyone... i did sphere of influence several times in the last weeks/months on several chars and so did my wife and my best bud and we never had a problem... all that while we couldnt finish vault and others had no problems... weirds me out...
It and the broken ending of the Vault mission was fully fixed again for most players by like September. But somehow they brought back the bug for Sphere this week.
Iam a developer in a software company and working on 2 products. The larger one has about ~ 70.000 lines of code. For the last 1,5 years my testing guys have been scheduled for other tasks... so there is barely any testing going on. On every meeting I complain about it. I even threatened the managers that i will not create a setup with the features some customers asked/payed for because the thing has not been tested and I dont want to be known for buggy products. Answer was - and i kid you not - that after every instalaltion there are so many additional problems (because nobody tested it) that testing in advance is a waste of time.
I'm pretty new to STO myself, being a free player for less than a month now. Your vids are very informative, but I'm finding an ongoing issue with just getting from one instance to another. With almost every instance, I get a server drop, but running a tracer utility, I can see that I'm still retaining a good connection without any drops that would address the server drops. It was looking like it would be something I might go to a pay game, but with the number of disconnects, I spend almost as much time logging back on then actual game play. The one thing that prevents that is the fact that I'm getting that 'server connection failed' boot in almost every change in instances. That, with the 'traits dropped' issue and some episodes seem to be broken after that last patch, it seems the major issue that prevented STO from gaining more followers are those ongoing and repeating bugs. Honestly, I thought the game play was interesting and has a great deal of potential, but the frustration levels are simply too high to make it a 'main game', let alone a pay-n-play. Thanks for all the content over the years, and some of those older one's were still really helpful for us noobs.
Thanks for reminding me why I quit for a second time, the only thing worth doing in the game is the dailies and thats just a grind anyway. Totally pointless game and waste of time, picking my nose has more excitement, the only thing about it as you said is the ST esthetic, but sooner or later you have to stop flogging the dead horse :)
I'm a very casual player who just focuses on story missions. I'm not sure I'd notice the bugs. You don't really need anything at all to clear the story. But I do hope bugs get fixed. What would be awesome is if DECA was to rebuild the game with a current game engine. That might even attract new players. Would they do it? Unlikely, given the level of effort. But SEGA did it with _PSO2_ , and Mihoyo did it with _Honkai Impact 3rd_ . This game is 14 years old, and feels every year.
Just to clear up some misinformation that's been commented on in this section, this is regarding Kael saying he owed us nothing. This is taken out of context and is not in fact what he said. I am the first to criticise Cryptic and Kael, but we need to ensure what we say is accurate. I'm not a super active player but I've been playing off and on since open beta, so I don't really pay attention to larger happenings or the community or anything...glad I stumbled onto this and heard you mention rubberbanding because I thought I was going insane and hitting the netgraph seeing nothing that would cause it.
I too am down to just doing dailies. It's ridiculous to have to do a complete boff removal, switch maps / launch a tfo, then reinstall boffs every single time. Personally, I'm suspecting the Cryptic staff knows their time is limited, don't care, and are just "leaving a broken house for the new owners".
I hear your frustration. I havn't played in several years. It was and is my favorite MMO. For me it was the loss of PC Joystick control. I used it for the 10 plus years (and 56 characters later) I played. The response I got was "STO never supported Joysticks" (wtf, I used them the entire time I played). I knew the end was in sight when Cryptic began using the line "it's broken, we don't know how to fix it, so we disabled it" for almost every bug. That is not how you run a Software Company. My fantasy is Cryptic gets sold to someone who actually want STO to succeed. For now it just seems like Cryptic is "Rape the Whales, all ahead Warp 9"
I think the community deserves EVENTUALLY (after like the year of 2003 when the last decent ST game came out) a game that deserves to carry the name "Star Trek". Not another silly mobile game, not another game filled with micro-transactions. "Resurgence" is a decent approach, but it's just a short excursion (maybe 8 to 9 hours of playtime) and while I've had fun watching it (wasn't really playing, more watching), I'd like to play a Star Trek game that is on par with the big ones out there such as GTA or Red Dad Redemption etc. :)
Yeah the bugs recently have just crushed me. The watcher/SROs are a considerable investment in time and EC for specialization and then the purchasing of the boff abilities which don't come cheap. Spent hundreds of millions of EC carefully cultivating my crop of bridge officers to eek out just a little more damage. This just doesn't give me much faith in the long term when big bugs get introduced and then smaller bugs from the 14th anni are still going on. I'm worried.
I wouldn't (and haven't) bother(ed) playing a Red Alert weekend with issues you care about not being fixed. I can kinda see doing just the Event Campaign ones, but even then if I couldn't AFK Solo one of the queues I'd be very tempted to not bother.
If this gets you, console version has numerous issues like cloaking that go on cooldown and lockout of firing, lock on for some reason targeting people off screen or in behind you, i had one story mission where I got shoved by a boss into a hallway where he would just regen and wipe my team. Star Trek Fleet Command is also pretty bad for broken stuff, to the degree you might feel better about this
When a game gets too big and esp with spaghetti code things break and cant be predicted, weve had to strip stuff out to add new stuff because the DB was too large and i fear this is the case with STO, ie itll never get fixed and why it never has been and will always rebreak, its at its life end in a way.

14 years later. We're still in an alpha
Pretty much!
Bigly . 😅
If we start rubberbanding halfway across the sector, then yes would remind me of alpha 😂.
These defects glitches and dysfunctions are precisely what prevented me from buying the 14th anniversary pack. It’s like buying a used car. You’re buying into problems. I don’t want to do that right now.
Amen
the major problem (from my point of view) is that there is no communication from the community manager.even if he acknowledged it it would be something.
100%
@@MCStuthi is why in thei last community video where they did show us how they fix bugs in live video I left the comment "spaghetti" Shaka, when the walls fell. Refering to their game coding which is worse than spaghetti :D Like u leave ur car at mechanic shop and they fix the issue but they always made new ones so u must keep coming back - I noticed the same pattern with Cryptic last few mnths with every bug fixed 10 more arose - and its getting piled up so much that I am afraid they wont be able to fix spaghetti this time at all
No Spock or Captain Kirk character playability is absurd
If you talk to Kael (Mike Fatum) and tell him about the bugs all he will do is mock you to his co-workers when you make valid points like (who cares about a 7th remaster of the Odyssey class when the game is unstable or the entire interior is a graphic nightmare, ground combat sucks, it plays WORSE than a PS2 game)
On the note of "the product should work" (rant warning):
The recent stream where Kael got snappy and told us they don't owe us anything...
I think Kael is pissed off that he's losing his job and believes now that he no longer owes anything to the community or the players.
1000 dollars? Adorable.
Game is still resetting my traits at random intervals. I doubt they'll ever fix these issues.
As you said: if this was not Star Trek - I would not be here either.
Known issue, they said in the last live stream that it's a deep fix that requires a programmer (already assigned) instead of just a map setting.
@@tom611there are 1 Gazillion known issues, but...who cares right?!
Well to be fair it not like sto ever had a proper qa department. On that check release for probelms
There’s an annoying bug with the mission sphere of influence it’s annoying the red/blue/green/yellow symbols don’t appear so i can’t do the mission it’s so annoying
There is also a problem in the Harry Kim/Keten mission. The electrified floor doesn't show up, so it's a chore having to guess when to walk across it.
it just kept guessing until i got through it. Takes awhile but its doable!
Yes, I've experienced that 3-4 days ago, I had to skip it at the end
I just did this mission on my Klink toon since id been missing out on all the bonuses with the recruitment ... I freaked out when it didnt show the sequence ... I thought I did something wrong, so I clicked whatever and it accepted it, No pattern, almost as if it auto-completed that segment.. Thank god I dont plan on leveling up another toon any time soon.
WHat .... i hope i dont get that bug, im almost to that mission @@handsolo1209
Do you know what is never broken? The Z-Store.
Do you have Voyager bridge our freighter bridge? If so you can switch ship from those two since they allow you switch big ships.
I played up until the time Jar Jar Trek was included. That was all it took for me to walk away. Goodbye.
I've cut way back on my sto since the server lag issues started
Same. Its rediculous.
Day 1?
It's a tough moment for STO right now, just gotta ride out the storm.
So it's been a few days. Any word on a fix for this?
Not as of yet
@@MCStuJust read the patch notes for 3/14. "Resolved an issue sometimes preventing some Bridge Officer Traits from consistently applying to captains." Really hope they're talking about this...
When STO released the Guillotine TFO with the King and Queens story arc. Mostly for about a week I couldn't complete the next phase of Guillotine, we (the TFO team) will do the first part with the anchors (only getting to anchor 5) and they would bug out, see nothing is working then, drop the TFO and go onto another one. It was frustrating.
I must of missed something somewhere. What is a watcher bridge officer the second time I've heard you call them this.
Check this vid out, it goes over them. ua-cam.com/video/28gL7zj2kko/v-deo.htmlsi=RdoxzyMeqjaeJLwU
Ship modules are showing incorrect stats all over the place.
My impulse engines should be saying flight speed 27, but it often shows 18.1 in every map except a few times.
Sometimes if there's a map cut, my engines will show 27.1, 18.1, 22, 15. All in the same mission, just different portions of the mission.
ummmm that buffs turning off and on thats part of the game my friend.
Best part of you showing this, what was the last 10 Forward Stream with Ambassador Kael they were so proud to show off “Jesse Fixes a bug”
I think They missed one, an important one.
I wonder if they will ever fix the Transwarps? Half of them don't work.
i started a kdf recruit and the last 3 missions in a row ive played have been bugged to the point where they cant be created. the dyson sphere missions, all of them glitched and unfinishable
Why won’t they give us Spock or Captain Kirk characters to play as ? Make it a dlc I’ll buy it.
No need to apologize Stu, you have every right to be pist off.
We all do. It's not being negative to point out the obvious stuff we all hate.
Every time I select a new ship my inventory goes crazy, sometimes I lose consoles pernetly.
Best way to send a message is to stop giving them our money and play less.
ya thats the sad part. they sell you an item but the item does not work? haha where are the pre-testing before going live?
if you have a spare loadout, can you save a loadout with no BO and then when you enter a map change to the new loadout and back to the orignal loadout - ofc only if you have a spare loadout
Sadly that wasn't working for me. I still had to reslot each boff one by one to see my Crit return.
The foundation of the game is shoddy, and it shows. They might as well start coding STO 2 with lessons learned from this game.
- New content is here weeks/months sooner
- Endgame scene is much more developed
- Can use third party tools like combat parsers, which means you can dive more into ship builds/performance chasing at endgame.^
- Much more control over your build and abilities.
As Casual said, PC 100% long term.
I never knew this about boffs, where would one get rare watchers from?
What if we use one load out slot without BOFs, and then a 2nd to load them? Will that work, or do we have to remove them manually?
I tried that, It did not work. Good idea though.
Is this a display error or is it actually affecting runs?
Is it specific to Watchers, or all officers?
Does in map jumps like Romulan Minefield trigger the bug?
Its been tested, its affecting runs.
@@MCStuThank you for the information.
WHY????
Bug notwithstanding... thanks for sharing your Alliance Rex build! I was looking for one )
No problem 👍
Sphere of influence mission has a bug where you have a colour code puzzle. This part of the mission is broken and has been for awhile and hinders 100% progress of Recruit toons
So, on what date is STO DECAs full responsibility?
Some issues that would be great to have fixed or addressed
Make ship combat more impactful and ship flight more dynamic.
Another annoying bug on T6-X2 ships us the 2 extra ship traits that keep getting unslotted. I keep having to check to make sure they are active.
oh yah when you go into TFO in particular make sure you take a quick look at your build.
qustion is the any info on Alliance Rex Pilot Escort on the wiki as I would like to read the info on this ship?
Thank you for the info as I might give this ship to the jem'hadar character. What is the best build for each ship ?
Yup, I built my ship as a proton boat, and in patrols it does amazing. As *soon* as I switch to a lower level tfo, it does like no damage. Now I know what to look out for, thanks!
So to fix what happened it only takes 2 minutes to fix?
I understand what you mean. I haven't played STO for a couple of years, and I'm one of those who has spent a lot of money and got a lifetime membership a few years ago. I'm starting to play a little and feel like I have to learn everything over again. I hope the game issues will finally get fixed.

There's a lot of game breaking bugs that are yet to be resolved. For some reason, my ship has been randomly insta-killed in a lot of battles lately and i don't understand why.
not to mention just a lack of development in general, the game has not really had much in the way of expansion at all
I play on the ps5 and the d-pad doesnt work to navigate the options
Does anyone else routinely get disconnections when transferring maps?. Msg I get is server not found or responding in time.
I get that a decent amount, it wouldn't even be too bad if it disconnected you quick so you could get right back in, but it takes a while to even boot you.
hello , i'm planing to come back to the game ( after 5 years )
does these buggs still ongoing ?
thanks
The big ones have been fixed for the most part. Last 6 months have been pretty good
Where do you get the watchers Boffs ?
Exchange or lock boxes
@@MCStu A trick I have been doing is daily selling off my refined dill form my 12 level 65s because we know it is not going to stay at 500 pretty much indefently. This way I can always sell zen and emedetly get my dill back but I would wait 4 to 7 days to sell dill
@@MCStu thanks
Last I heard Cryptic is being phased out completely. DECA will have total control of STO.
i got a bug where i cant dismiss bridge officers and i dont know how to fix it any one got any idea, cause i type the name and then hit dismiss and they are still there, ive tryd rebooting, changing instance, hard starting, nothin cant find how to fix it on google either
Preach! 100% agree with you
Maybe DECA will manage to kill 14 year old bugs. This game makes allot of money to be dismissive of is customers.
This bug sorted yet ? Thinking of coming back to the game
Ya, they fixed quite a bit of the issue, pretty good lately.
@@MCStu awesome , thanks for the reply ✌️
I just wish that they'd add keyboard and mouse input for consoles
the mission Sphere of Influence minigame in the Dyson sphere has been broken since at least August of last year, u can't complete the story or Delta Recruit arc for that until it's fixed.
I haven't noticed an issue but I'm also still waiting foe them to fix the kobali boots
Just to clear up some misinformation that's been commented on in this section, this is regarding Kael saying he owed us nothing. This is taken out of context and is not in fact what he said. I am the first to criticise Cryptic and Kael, but we need to ensure what we say is accurate.

I don't think I am having this issue. I looked and I am not seeing it.
Oh grandpa, did u lose your glasses again? :)
I wish it was me.
I'm not a super active player but I've been playing off and on since open beta, so I don't really pay attention to larger happenings or the community or anything...glad I stumbled onto this and heard you mention rubberbanding because I thought I was going insane and hitting the netgraph seeing nothing that would cause it.
Is to a stats bug or is it only a visual bug?
Its to the stats, we tested it
@@MCStu i thought as much but it never hurts to ask.
Give us dlc for Captain Kirk and Spock
I wouldn't (and haven't) bother(ed) playing a Red Alert weekend with issues you care about not being fixed. I can kinda see doing just the Event Campaign ones, but even then if I couldn't AFK Solo one of the queues I'd be very tempted to not bother.
If this gets you, console version has numerous issues like cloaking that go on cooldown and lockout of firing, lock on for some reason targeting people off screen or in behind you, i had one story mission where I got shoved by a boss into a hallway where he would just regen and wipe my team. Star Trek Fleet Command is also pretty bad for broken stuff, to the degree you might feel better about this
I noticed the game is still laggy yesterday I was playing on my alt and the game kept rubber banding or freezing up
When a game gets too big and esp with spaghetti code things break and cant be predicted, weve had to strip stuff out to add new stuff because the DB was too large and i fear this is the case with STO, ie itll never get fixed and why it never has been and will always rebreak, its at its life end in a way.
