      Maybe I'm out of the grove. I thought Jimmy Dodd from the 50's hit TV show, The Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, was the all time greatest and John Mayer was second.

      @@manueltimm5634 "...literally the clapton/prince conversation with swapped names..."
      ... go back a ways. There is an apocryphal story about a Jimi Hendrix interview where he supposedly had the same response but named Phil Keaggy. It wouldn't surprise me if there were a similar quote about Django, or Robert Johnson, etc. etc.

      YT makes picking up guitar as a new hobby (or, otherwise more serious endeavor) easier than at any other time in history. Wish I had it when I first picked up a guitar. Might have stuck with it back then, rather than drifting away and returning decades later! Inspiration and Education is but a click away, now.

      One of my lectures for design at ISU was over the subject of "stealing like an artist". One can never really make something completely original. We had to learn that our ideas for design choices are and always will be inspired by another artist. In some occasions, take from other artists. Which is completely okay! That Autumn leaves may have been rooted from another melody farther in the past!

    • @MisiekASG
      @MisiekASG 5 років тому +1

      Autumn leaves is just cycle of 5ths as well as this song.

    All of these people in comments saying how they love Peter but haven't heard the original is very confusing. There's a reason all of our favorite YT guitar plays cover Mayer. It's the same reason he played with Double Trouble, inducted SRV into the HoF, played with people like BB King and Clapton (many times). If you aren't on the John Mayer train then hurry and get on because he's one of the best living guitarists

    your playing is effortless man, good stuff. the song is awesomely simple. John Mayer's crazy good but he's also crazy good at the basics and the fundamentals of songwriting, melody, rhythm, etc. and he knows how to show restraint. back to basics indeed. such a simple tune, yet HE wrote it and not anybody else. songwriting really is it's own unique skill, and much more rare than skill on an instrument.

    Hi I just want to say I really love what Pete does, John Mayer is simply brilliant. I’m in my sixties and have been playing since I was a teenager been in awe of guys like these my whole life. I’m sure my development as a player has been slowed down because I’ve always thought that the songs I want to play are much more complicated than they actually are. I must stress that I’m not in any way trying to be a smart arse but aren’t all tunes made up of simple chord progressions? It’s only now that I’m finding that you can play along with your favourite song with a handful of campfire chords. I’d give my eye teeth to sit down with someone like Pete that understands the structure of these kind of tunes.

    I should never watch these videos before going to work it always turns into an hour of noodling on the guitar and then I have no motivation to leave lol!

    Im in love with the solo he did for this song. It's so perfect for this song. It almost feels like it could fit in La La Land.
