- Wood Shells. An updated process to make wood shells easier than before. Scroll saw can be used, but it's not required. The patterns are now double-sided and the toner is transferred directly onto the wood to get perfect alignment when gluing segments together. I did not comprehend your blackboard explaination, but I got a lot out of this video I can use. Thanks.
Steve thanks for this video it will help me-what glue & activator did you use and what bits for sanding?
I used medium viscosity starbond ca glue (any brand will work), and Bob Smith Industries activator applied with a cotton swab. For rough wood removal I use Saburrtooth whisper burrs. For sanding I use cloth-backed sandpaper hot-glued to the head of a drywall nail (for 3/32" shank) or galvanized roofing nail (1/8" shank) as a disk sander. It actually works better if the cloth-backed abrasive is left square instead of circular.
Cool video, Loved it. Keep it up, have an awesome day!
Hey Steve, how are you 😊 this is a unique project as was your pioneering in the early spirals 👌 enjoyed the video very much Steve . Thank you.
Thanks, Mahendra. I'm doing alright, just making things easier. :)
Steve , happy to read that 😊 thank you for responding.
Awesome. Thanks fpr shearing that tricks
Glad you liked it.
Hello Steve, first off thank you for taking the time to do your videos and explanations. It is without doubt you are one amazing guy with a wicked sense of direction for coming up with these wonderful creations and of course sharing the knowledge on how to make them. I aim to get more done in the workshop after being incapacitated for more more than a year now although it will be a slow process. Your explanations and videos by the way for us mere mortals to achieve the results you strive for are exemplary. Thank you.
Could you please tell me where you got the router planer bit from?
Regards and best wishes from New Zealand.
Thanks! You can find the planer bit on either amazon or ebay. I hope you can get set up to make some.
Прекрасная работа!!! Я восхищён!!!
Thank you!
That is too cool...do you also design nuclear subs and lunar landers😃 great work Steve...stay safe...press on 😎 Joe
How did you know lol? Thanks, Joe.
Thanks. You can change the playback speed setting to make it shorter. For those who are wanting to learn how to make one, it's better to have more information than not enough.
Bravissimo!!!+!!!!!!!
I was watching an older video of you making shells. 🐚 do you sale the pattern for them??
Great job Steve. I like the idea of using nail polish remover as a transfer. Is that using ink jet or toner? Also, I am concerned for your health, Cedar dust is deadly, so please use a dust mask and or dust hood when using the Dremel as a sander. 😉
Hi Wendy, It's toner from a laser printer. I do wear a respirator at least while sanding. Sometimes I also use a dust collector which I have setup to blow it outside instead of bagging it. 🙂
You lost me during the blackboard scene but once your starting working it was obvious. Very clever plan.
Thanks. I'm glad it was easy to figure out.
Steve, where does the pattern transferred to the second side of the wedge come into play?
Hi Spencer, carve to the line on the larger face of each segment, then use the smaller matching face of the adjacent segment to help align it while gluing along with the sharp edge and squared top end.
