- I had to change my clutch. I video taped the entire removal of the transmission, attempting to go step by step in the manual (as best as I could). This is a 1993 Geo Metro 5 Speed Manual 1.0 Liter Engine. This video includes step by step removal of the transaxle CV Axles.
Removal and Installation of the clutch can be watched here:

Thank you so much for this detailed instruction video! Just removed a transmission for the first time
Glad it helped!
Major oil leak on that engine. I've ended up having to replace all the oil seals and o-rings on my 94 to keep it from being a mess. Thanks for doing this video. This has given me enough confidence to go ahead with the job and do this repair.
Just the oil pan was leaking. I had planned to video tape me changing the gasket and drilling and rethreading the stripped bolts (there were 6). However, I couldn't get good light or camera angles.
Not a major oil leak but one that is bad enough it should have been addressed a long time ago.
Thanks Jeff! I'm about to swap from the reman 5 speed that was in the car when I bought it to a used factory one. Second gear synchro went out in the reman (big surprise) this video definitely helped with order of operations. I feel like it won't take me all day now!
I'm glad it helped. My 2nd gear synchro went out 2 years ago and I had to park it. It now won't start. I'm pretty sad.
good video, im working on my 95 now, it has 310k on trans, its done wore out, i love the metro, keeps miles off my tacoma and i change tires myself for 26 bucks each delivered from wallmart. parts dirt cheap
I tried to cover the stuff that no one else covers on youtube.
What tire you running boss?
thanks
Welcome
where can i get a copy of the instructions (book) that you used? I have a 1992 convertible 3 cycl 1.0 ltr that I have to do the same thing you've done here.. BTW thank you VERY VERY MUCH for this video!!!
I'll put links in the description
My car has been leaking since before i got my car and still the shifter linkage bolts were rusted on mine.
Ya, it's location almost promises corrosion
Yeahboy, THANKS for this video- I've got a '94 and a '95 and I'm swapping transmissions on both to get them rebuilt. BTW, did you know that clutch adjustment nut was on backwards??? ALSO: those drain plugs use a 3/8th" drive, not a 1/2".
The nut can go on either way. Yes it's a 3/8th drive unless you put one in that uses a 1/2" drive the last time you did it. :D
I looked at the video again, you are correct the concentric side of the nut was pointing outward on the clutch adjustment nut when it should be going inside the lever and against the pin. I didn't even notice that. LOL. That is designed to keep the clutch adjustment from backing out.
What size is the broken Phillips head I found stuck to my drain plug?
You should not use a phillips head screw driver to remove that plug. I have no clue what size you used but I can assure you, it was wrong.
@@JeffDeanTheDeanZone I mean there was an actual Phillips head screw head floating around inside my transmission from who knows where 😆
@@JeffDeanTheDeanZone I really appreciate the guide you made. One of the best automotive guides on the platform
I have a 95 and I have a no starting
Could be anything. Need more information
You skip pulling the cv axel from the trans
Begins at 17:03. I show the entire procedure step by step. It's called a "drive axle" not a CV axle. That's probably where you messed up. There is a CV joint on the drive axle, but the CV doesn't drive anything and it is removed when you remove the drive axle from the transmission, which I clearly show in this video.
So if i wanted to swap trans i would have to do this twice. NO thanks
Well ya if you are going to completely swap the transaxles on two cars you're going to have to remove and replace the transaxle on each car, unless you have magic powers.
Ok doesnt look that bad.
What doesn't look that bad?
