Hey all, thought that I would throw up a 2 part tutorial for this one as there are zero tutorials for this classic on UA-cam. One of my subscribers recommended it to me as I like to take on tutorials for the long complicated ones that others haven't tackled yet on occasion.
I initially uploaded this one with a backing track during the performance part of it and got copyright nailed for my efforts. As a result I removed the backing track from the performance. Thus with this solo being quite chaotic to begin with, without a backing track it sounds even more so, if you're not very familiar with it to begin with. Sorry about that, but it's all there (At least the first half of the solo).
Should have part 2 up in a week or so. Still have to learn it.
Good luck with it.
Cheers, Kelly

Great lesson. In the 70’s I thought it would be almost impossible to work out what he was doing let alone play the thing. It really is probably his best solo.
Thanks mate! Hope it helped.
Thank you Mr Kelly for all that you do. You're a great teacher and an inspiration!
Thanks mate, nice to be appreciated. I love doing it.
Have you ever considered covering “Junior’s Eyes” from Black Sabbath?
terimakasih mas...saya dari indonesia.
Child in Time presents my all time favorite guitarsolo! It's the emotion, anger, the fire, the aggression. At least that how I always felt it. Unfortunately Blackmore never played it live like on record. I've heard many people play it, and although technically often well done, it's usually misses the intensity Blackmore gave it. Maybe I'll try this lesson...
Great lesson, Ritchie was like the Jerry Garcia of hard rock, always improvising all his solos live. I have many live recordings of this song specifically and its never the same, in fact most times he even outshines the original studio recording. That's what made him an exciting guitar player to watch live, you never new what he was gonna throw at you to blow your mind 😆
Thanks for the interpretation of the original studio creation, good job !
I went to see Deep Purple at Auckland New Zealand in 1975, I was crestfallen knowing Ritchie Blackmore my guitar god hero was not there, Tommy Bolin took over from Ritchie..still a great memorable concert but..geez Ritchie was my main attraction for his guitar licks✅👍
I'm going to work on this one. I love a challenge, and this is a BIG ONE!
Just getting closer to some of Ritchie's techniques is worth the time.
This is a solo that just comes out of nowhere, and takes me down to the dump in an otherwise somber tune.
In many of the live performances Ritchie always does something different with it and never ceases to amaze me.
He has been my first guitar hero since the 70's and so glad that I got to see the Mark ll lineup.
Thanks so much for putting this one out here, your on the top shelf for this one👍🎸🎶.
I find guitarist that followed Ritchie although seemingly more complicated can actually be easier to pull off . You have done a great job of this , well done and thanks
This is way beyond my capabilities, but I’m enjoying trying to get it. Can’t tell you how much I thoroughly enjoy your guitar lessons. They’re top notch. Thank you, Sir.
.... My English is not so good... so sorry
but...
I want to say....
that your words... "classical guitar solo"
this is right..!!
and in classic Music the musicians often worked over 20 years to make sure
that they could repeat the classic works in every concert by every time
on the highest level...
Blackmore never played this fantastic solo on the live gigs....
not the classical solo on the record...
it's a pity...
and the world looses a great work
on video
to see how he played this fantastic classical work of music by himself
I don t know and hope that he changes his mind and do this
to the people now and after us... I hope he will do this... in time...
Child in time
thanks to your fantastic job
to show us this great work.... thank you... 👍👍
What can I say, great job as usual. Can't wait for part 2. Thanks, Kelly :-)
Thanks Pedro! Was a real challenge picking this one apart by ear. Even more of a challenge to play.
You are a fantastic player and a really good teacher. I’ve been playing DP wrong for years. Thanks for showing us this
You really have a God-Given Gift. I have always wanted to learn this. Thank you for making a 40-year dream come true!!
Thanks for this lesson. This will be my next challenge
congratulation,you nail It
thanks for this dude, from italy. Amazing job
Beautiful song
Beautiful solo.. my favourite purple tune
HAHAH i was just starting on learning my way through DP's catalog! Like literally 2 days ago.
Anyway this will be a great help in the coming weeks. Just finished speed king yesterday and am working on bloodsucker starting today.
Thanks for all your work!
Watch for the small mistake at 22:50. I explain it in the description.
It's unbelivable. Very very good.
How Ritchie Blackmore comes up with such a beautiful solo.
WOW...You are excellent... Extremely will done... Perfection
thank you so much, my dream was to play this solo since I was 13. God bless you and your loved ones 🤍
FANTASTIC...SUPERB
Great job, Thanks sir
thank you for the guitar science i've been waiting for a long time (from indonesia)
Thank you so much!
💥🔥Ritchie Blackmore Forewer.!!! 💥🔥🎶🎶🎸🎸🎸👍
ITS THE WONDER OF NATURE BABY !!!!!!
Very nice lesson Mr Kelly, this video will help a lot for those who want to learn this solo, including me xD
Btw there are videos on youtube of the isolated tracks of some songs and luckily there is the isolated guitar of child in time, /watch?v=wSx1cVvxodM this video is called "vocals only" but around 2:30 you have the guitar solo only, so its much easier to understand the notes...
... another classical solo is the solo on the record of the song... "what's going on"
from Rory Gallagher
.... I would be very happy if you could do a lesson about this...
by the way... also a challenge of the "pinky"
... I sure you could do it.... 👍👍
this would be great
... greetings... from Germany
Thank you a lot, great song, great lesson.
Thank you so much for that!!
Excellent man!!
Thanks Robert! Man was this tough to figure out by ear. Painstaking.
Thanks!
Thanks Joe! Appreciate that very much.
Hey Kelly, I think it would be incredible if you did a tutorial on Pink Floyd - Marooned. There is not one instructional video on this, I cant imagine it being too hard for you to learn plus I think most people would love to learn it once they hear it. HUGE FAN DUDE
Hey Josh. Another good one. That's the kind of stuff I'm looking for. I'm planning on upping the tutorial content on my channel going forward and I don't want to fill it with stuff that's been done to death. Keep em coming Josh!
@@KellyDeanAllenGuitar Sounds good to me man I like what your going for, I was linked to a song called cortez the killer once, fell in love with it - later searched for a tutorial and only your one was present, that was the day I subscribed man. Take care Kelly
i wonder how he came up with a solo like this ,its like he just let loose and went for it ...but everything fits so perfect ..he was only 25 at the time
just great!
Thank you for this, I’ll definitely give this a go this weekend. What music are you listening to currently?
Springsteen almost exclusively. I'm a big fan.
@@KellyDeanAllenGuitar That's awesome, I've never really given Springsteen a chance. Which album would you recommend I start with? :)
many thanks!
Such a nice video, thanks for sharing...
I wish you use one of your Strats for this video...
Here's a challenge. Errors of My Way by Wishbone Ash. A beautiful solo that nobody is capable of teaching.
I was unfamiliar with that one. It's bloody awesome! Thanks
Thx u very much👌👍🏻😄
This was a great performance, but it really gets to me that you played it on a Jackson while you had BOTH a maple and rosewood Strat sitting in the background!
It's so bloody difficult to play, that I needed to use my most comfortable guitar.
@@KellyDeanAllenGuitar I can never get the sextuplet bursts quite right
They're a nightmare to play.
Blackmore until that album was playing with a gibson es335 with a bigsby tremolo, It was the last album he played with that guitar . some tunes like child in time with the gibson other with his new strat.. But i m curious how did u set your sound amp, guitar, pedal ?
ua-cam.com/video/Gwzq52iNaaM/v-deo.html
I was the subscriber who suggested the song! Check the comments on kellys "how to record videos" video 😀😀😀
thank you
excellent! I put Ritchie right in there with Page, Clapton, Beck...maybe even a little better, technically...specially in 1970....
He was in my mind the very best guitarist of the seventies, until Uli Jon Roth and Eddie Van Halen came along.
@@KellyDeanAllenGuitar agreed.. ulrich roth blew me away with virgin killer, bout 76 im thinkin...the eddie came right behind him...ya know, i think blackmoor in the sixties doesnt get enuff credit...some of that early purple, pretty tuff
He is the guitar player’s guitarist. He was the most technical of the other three that you mention, IMO.
Of course anyone who knows Ritchie’s work intimately, a few years before and after 1970, is mystified as to why the cliche isn’t “the big 4” as opposed to “the big 3”.
Give it a decade or so for the dust to finally settle and I wager that Ritchie will emerge as the most influential of them all .... for the decades following. Ritchie didn’t play the celebrity game and doesn’t see himself as a rock star but as a musician. He wasn’t the darling of rock writers. The others are great but he is just as great. This song and solo alone is proof. I wager that no one in 1969 could have improvised this solo over 2 consecutive takes as he did ... I mean just technically.
His performance musicality and dynamics on this are pretty much unmatched by any player of the era. Ritchie loved Paul Kossoff and Jeff Beck so he wasn’t necessarily impressed by speed but by feeling/emotion. This solo has both modes and never ceases to amaze me. Yes ... I have had it with people who assess Deep Purple but know little more than Smoke on the water” 😀
Part 2?
Love this song but what is it even about ? Lol lyrics seemed p random to me. Does anyone know ?
It's an anti-Vietnam war song.
Black napkins by FZ doesnt have a guitar lesson on youtube aswell might be a good video. alot of zappa fans out there :)
Thanks for the idea. Will look into it.
Pink Strength!
Great fucking ears dude fucking incredible..
