Rene Borroto yeah but what happens to the sodium side of the equation??? Sodium is flammable in water. This still makes no sense we need a chemist to explain it.
Thank you for taking the time to make this educational videos. I'd like to ask you why just some of the water goes through the cell and the rest of the water goes directly to the pool??? I've seen other salt system where all the water goes through the cell. if you can answer me would be much appreciated. Thanks!!
You only need to add salt when you get low. For some that may be every other year. For others twice a year. Salt does not degrade or evaporate. It only needs added to replace form back washing, splash out, pump down. Keeping 2800-3500 PPM should not require more than a bag per year in most cases. Unless you have a leak and are constantly refilling. In that case you may be added much more. - Fix the leak.
I am curious if seperate shock has to be added after major rain events or algae growth, or is it just a simple matter to change chlorine generator setting to higher to make more chlorine?
If you 'Boost' the system prior to a party or heavy CL demand yes i likley will keep up. Most owners still supplement the CL with liquid chlorine however.
Make sure it is calibrated for your pools volume. It is not uncommon for the system to 'forget' the volume when it is turned off over the winter. ALSO the cold water is hard for the trisensor to accurately sense. Sometimes it will tell you to add too much salt when the water is cold.
Hi there, I have a quick question.. recently because of the liquid Chlorine shortage our HOA has shut down the pool! The pool is almost Olympic size (big pool). So is there any way to calculate and estimate the Pool Salt System and how much it appx cost for our pool?
YEs- Nearly all manufactures including AutoPilot have ratings on their systems and cells for 'pounds of CL' produced in a 24 hour period. Many also have a pool volume rating in gallons of water.
Awesome video thanks for sharing your knowledge. Quick question I’m building a pool. Can I add this system at a later time to save money right now ? I’m a diy’ person and have done plumbing and home remodeling. Will this be ok for me to install and what unit do you recommend. Thanks
Yes this can be added later. There is nothting unique about the pool or construction that has to be done. Add the system (takes about the same pad space as CL injector) and put the needed salt in the pool itself. Done. Thanks!!
It depends on your gallonage. Autopilot is definitely the best choice for salt systems. If you have a smaller pool the Digital Nano/Digital Nano+ line is the choice for you (personally I'd go with the Nano + since its SLIGHTLY cheaper and you can put it on a pool up to 28K gallons (rated for 32,000 but i wouldn't go above 28K.) If you have a bigger pool I'd go with the Pool Pilot Line, You have tons of options for the cell in the manifold based on your gallonage.
Can you tell me if I can add one of these without changing the rest of the equipment ie: sand filter, pump heater etc. We just renovated and I wish the guy had suggested this instead of an in-line chlorinator which I now think was a big mistake.
leisurepoolsohio thank you. I think I’m going to start looking into this. It may not happen this summer after all this expensive renovation, but maybe next summer before opening.
You can. Too much chlorine is too much chlorine. It doesn't matter if your making it (salt system) or you are putting it in via puck form (chlorine feeder).
yes if the output level is high enough. More circulation time with a lower output OR Less circulation time with a higher output setting will yield the same Chlorine.
Finally… a video that explains, in a simple manner for amateurs like myself, what a salt chlorination system is and how it works. Thanks!

great video. Good realistic prop opinion. Have you ever used borates on your salt or traditional chlorine pools?

The water goes through the cell loop. IF the cell screen become clogged then the water is bypassed strait through. ALL of the water is chlorinated.
where to hook up wires to water flow valve
The Clorox pool salt at walmart is just regular large grain table salt ?
As long as it is food grade salt. Don't use water softener salt.
How often do you need to add the salt? Thanks

Good explanation. Good video. Thank you!
Good video mate, make more!
Newbie here... I just started everything in the new pool. Had it running for 2 days and now the Digital Pool displays ADD 137lbs of salt??

@@LuxuryPoolsandLiving i will go into the autopilot settings to make sure. Thank you very much.

Can you use Potassium Chloride pellets in a salt system?
I would suggest that you contact the manufacturer of your specific system to verify comparability.

PS- Auto Pilot / Nano is the unit I recommend for a stand alone unit.

Yes. If you have or can make the physical space or already have 18" of stait pipe that should be a simple unit to add.
Well explained. Thanks. Is there a hydrogen by product that is naturally vented?
Good question, It will produce Cl2, Caustic and Hydrogen so I wonder the same thing
I really want to know if the water tastes salty
You can barely detect the salt. 3000 PPM is not going to taste or hurt your eyes. Definitely not the ocean if that is what your thinking it would be.
I just want to know will I still have red eyes, itchy skin, harsh odors?
You can. Too much chlorine is too much chlorine. It doesn't matter if your making it (salt system) or you are putting it in via puck form (chlorine feeder).
How many hours does the pump need to run? Would 8 hours suffice?
yes if the output level is high enough. More circulation time with a lower output OR Less circulation time with a higher output setting will yield the same Chlorine.
Very well said. Thanks for taking the time.
Now I know..thanks definitely going to sub..
Yeah it was good
Think that’s good idinit 😂 I like it !!
