  • On the show today, Meta says it will label AI-generated images posted to its platforms, which include Facebook and Instagram. The decision comes after its Oversight Board criticized the company's policy on manipulated media. Meanwhile, Senator Amy Klobuchar recently joined “Marketplace Tech” to discuss, among other things, a possible reform or even repeal of Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act, a law that essentially gives social media platforms legal immunity when it comes to the content their users post. But first, on Thursday the Federal Communications Commission ruled that AI-generated robocall scams are now illegal, under the Telephone Consumer Protection Act of 1991. This comes after thousands of New Hampshire primary voters were surprised with a robocall deepfake of President Biden, asking them to save their vote for the November election. Marketplace’s Lily Jamali is joined by Maria Curi, Tech Policy Reporter at Axios, for her insight on this week’s AI regulatory bonanza.

I really to think that social media companies need there incentives adjusted. It is absolutely ludicrous that they allow inappropriate material on their service to be accessed by minors. I truly hope Congress can get their act together and pass appropriate regulations.

It’s interesting to think about cracking down on phone companies, because they do get paid to carry scam calls, so it makes sense to eliminate their profit motive. Never crossed my mind before now

Would make a comment about this but it would name a company guilty of it. Doubtful it would be allowed even though it happened & most likely would be deleted. But the COMPANIES who provide...communication devices....should be looked at as well. Even after following all the steps required to block robocalls, I'm still getting them. Also getting other things FORCED on me BY THE COMPANY SELLING THE DEVICE. SERIOUSLY, device companies need to be looked at for this as well. Hopeful this comment won't be deleted.

I have a iPhone 11, AT&T, and the ActiveArmor app enabled. It is not perfect at blocking all spam or robocalls; I still get one or two a month. I do not answer any calls unless they are from a contact or a person/business that I am currently working with. I have never missed a call from a contact nor a person/business I am currently working with.

@@mjramirez3 I don't answer unfamiliar numbers & block/report spam on each call. Also have filters, also on DO NOT CALL list. The mess I was talking earlier was the same 5 or 6 games being forced on me BY THE PROVIDER, plus 2 trips to the store, plus days of not getting what I paid for. What I'm doing is making my home safer & more accessible for me & my wheelchair AND the set up done today will help in legal action against the manager & management company for A.D.A. violations at my apartment complex. Manager spread ice melt everywhere but my door & the ramp for the wheelchair. Was iced in for nearly a week & am taking them to court.
