The family thought they were buying their dream home, little did they know what would be arriving in the mail shortly after they started renovating the home. Has anybody ever heard of this game? I can't seem to find it anywhere. The only game I can find resembling anything like it is a Steam game called, "The Watchers." However, it was released in 2020, so it obviously isn't the one being referenced in the story. I'm assuming it's either an underground/indie game, or it doesn't exist at all and was just circulated as a rumor to add intrigue to the story.
I think the app was deleted becouase so many people started playing it after this legend came out. The app kept crashing from so many people playing it at once, so the creators deleted it.

It's really odd that with all the investigations done, they couldn't spot a person who hand delivered the letters. Mmmhh it's very strange
Most of them were apparently not hand delivered but mailed, all from the same post office that was, I think, 20 miles away

I love this case. There was a woman who did similar things when she was outbid on a house she wanted. She was hoping to get them to sell so she could buy it. She thought of it as her house. Forgot how she got caught but it was apparently pretty easy to get her.

I always wondered was it a family that was obsessed because they couldn't afford it. Or someone in the same family who throughout the years have issues and resentment with their wealthier counterparts.
It’s probably a crazy neighbor. They couldn’t sell it for years.
I thought this was fascinating. In the early 70s my parents bought a really old Victorian house also in NJ. It needed a lot of love. It was 3 stories and had some real quirks. The renovation worked out beautifully. The history of the house-wait for it- was that it was used as a small sanitarium back in the day! But we never had a watcher, just a few random spirits now and then.
Beautiful! I don't believe in ghosts but I've always thought if I did, I wouldn't fear them. How fascinating and beautiful to live in a Victorian home.

All jokes aside, it appears as if writing dark, unsettling letters to new property owners can actually be a pretty solid long-term real estate investment plan -- so long as you don't get caught. Here's to hoping we don't see too many "copycat watchmen" in the future.

How could they not say the woman's name of DNA found on the envelope!!!
Unless someone is already in the system DNA matching won't give you a specific identity. It can determine if the individual is male or female though, which is what happened here
This seams like a whole neighborhood of rotten people that value pretty house over a family feeling safe
You know the more and more you think about it the more it makes sense. The reason the writer know the kids names was because the kids played with the neighborhood kids. When the writer talks about people passing the house everyday it would make sense that the neighbors pass the house everyday. It's possible that it's not one person behind the letters and that it's multiple families in the neighborhood all collecting information

It would answer why no one saw the letter carrier.

What I don’t understand is this has to be the record holding house in 1 dollar sales changing owners. That’s something I’ve never heard of unless within the family; but it changed hands so fast, several times, and each time the owners only asked 1 dollar for it. Not normal.

Second question, other than familial relationships, what would compel a person to sell said house for one dollar?
That's a mystery in and of itself, which needs to be explored and satisfactorily resolved.
It's hard to believe that nobody ever figured out who this prankster was. Which potentially makes it one of the most successful high-profile pranks ever pulled off (albeit quite dark & unsettling).

I think it's most logical explanation. I think if the homeowners who sold the house to the family only received a couple of letters as the house was for sale it was setting it up. Then all the letters hand delivered no sightings of who or when. Then the publicity then the sale of rights......suspicious. I would like to know if new owners have any letters. It seems very odd. It's not first time a family have done this.

I think it’s some real estate scheme on Zillow the house is constantly listed and sold/rented or unlisted every year in increments soooo frequently. Maybe letters are still happening
Losing a house you love is heartbreaking. It’s like losing a family member. I lost my childhood home last year in the middle of the pandemic. I lived there almost 30 years. I would love my house back and I still have dreams about it but it did destroy me to lose it.
I would never threaten anyone but I do understand the emotions this letter writer is obviously feeling.
It makes me sad to know others have gone through this.

My paternal grandmother grew up in Westfield during the turn of the 20th Century. Her family was working class, they would not have even visited the property in question.

This whole story sounds like BS.
They need to find out who tried to buy the house before "greed" got in the way and it became out of their price range. Do you remember the story of the one lady who was so mad she didn't get a house that she sent men to the home after telling them the woman of the house was open to sex. They found out the lady who sent the men was someone who lost the bid on the house.

The hell is with the first letter... If the person is so obsessed with the house they should had bought it. Did they even went to the police when they started getting them? Nvm got to the detective.
Also they had cameras and still wasn't able to catch the person? I find that suspicious, the owner could had also gotten a dog and anybody close to drop the letter (take a bite boy or girl) or hell sniff the letter and find the person.
Could it have been one of the workers?

Twilight Zone episode = the letters from the watcher make Broadus super paranoid so he starts watching everyone else until he’s arrested for stalking an innocent young woman, who grins at him as he’s put into the squad car.
I feel like the watcher wanted the house for themselves. The bidding war theory makes a bit of sense. Or someone who gets off on psychology tournamenting others Can't they trace the letters from where they were mailed? I hope whoever did this is caught because death threats and stalking need to be taken seriously. I feel so bad for this family.
They were hand delivered somehow without getting caught on camera.
@@debshaw680 yeah, that's the part that leads me to believe they couldn't afford the home. The content of the letters is super odd though. The writing style seems odd for a younger couple to imitate.

That's what I kept thinking while watching the video but it's just not as "big" a thing, you know? At the worst it is just a stalker, possible serial killer, etc and at best a prank or way to get the owners to leave. It doesn't have the broad appeal of a haunting like Amityville did.

Really weird story, I feel like it started off as a prank and the person kept going once they saw how bad it was affecting the family. That would explain why the people who just threw the first letter away never heard anything else again. It also seems like the last letter was possibly from a different person? Hence the dramatic shift in tone.
