- This is the French paradise in Africa! Far away in the Indian Ocean is an incredible nature paradise island called La Réunion. Between Mauritius and Madagascar, this island has crazy white beaches, stunning volcanic landscapes, lush waterfalls and cosy colonial towns.
During our two week family holiday full of sun, beaches, hikes and great food, I show you all the highlights of La Réunion and all the top sights. At the airport in Saint-Denis we rent a car and drive to Boucan Canot, a hotspot near the best beaches. We visit the best snorkeling spot at Plage de l'Hermitage and drive down south to Saint-Pierre. We visit the volcanos at Piton de la Fournaise and see the best jungle waterfall Cascade de Grand Galet. Of course we brought the drone for perfect 4K footage. This video is the perfect guide for a family holiday to Reunion Island!
In the previous episodes you saw how we made a road trip from Cape Town to Kruger Park in South-Africa. We drove the Cape Namibia Route along the West Coast to look for animals in the Kalahari Desert. After that we crossed the border into Namibia, where we drove straight through the world's highest sand dunes in the Sossusvlei. We saw all the sights in Namibia and wend on for a safari in Etosha National Park. Lately we visited Botswana and Zimbabwe, to cross the border again back to South Africa. After the Kruger Park, we fly out of Johannesburg to take you island hopping on Mauritius and also the French island of La Réunion.
Our journey through Africa is part of a one and a half year trip around the world. We can even continue to travel indefinitely. On New Year's Day we started in Lanzarote and Fuerteventura, the Canary Islands. La Réunion is already destination number 26, after Oman, Cape Verde, Martinique, Saint Lucia, Tobago, Grenada, the Bahamas, the United States, Mexico, Ecuador, the Galapagos Islands, Brazil, Qatar, Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam, Malaysia, Australia, the Philippines, Zanzibar & Tanzania, Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe, South Africa and Mauritius. We have also been away from home for one and a half year now. Follow us on this world tour, now in La Réunion and then to many more beautiful destinations across the globe! Reunion is like France part of the EU. The EU rules apply so officially a certificate is needed to fly, just like in Europe.

How did you get by language wise on the island?
PS. The highest waterfalls on Reunion are Cascades de Trou de Fer (725m) and Cascade Blanche (640m)
Getting to remote places in China is difficult but doable.. Reunion shouldn’t be a problem language wise 😜 Haha that’s not really fair because it’s multiple jumps.

Yeah you're right, Trou de Fer is multiple falls but if I am not mistaken they are still taller and Cascade Blanch is more or less free fall for 500+ meters (if one is to trust Wikipedia) ;-)
How do I get there
The highest rainfall in Réunion island is Trou de Fer which is 725 meters high 😊
This has been commented before. That one is not in one stage and it’s also not like cascade waterfall. It’s just a punchbowl that makes a freefall from a cliff.

You mean Cilaos? And Mafate, yes it’s a very long road on the other side of Reunion. We decided not to drive five extra hours with our son 😉👍🏻

Small island with almost a million inhabitants. The number of people doubles every 30 or 40 years. VERY unsustainable. Stay clear of this hellhole.
The Netherlands, where we are from, actually has more inhabitants per square meter. It’s not that small also right? 🤪 How do you feel about cities than, which are way smaller and sometimes have 20 million people. I don’t understand the term hellhole. Really not my experience 😎

Why? Do you mean because of the shark attacks?
If this restriction keeps uncultured people like you away from our island, that's fine. The last shark attack was in 2019, and it was the only one. The USA accounted for 52% of all shark attacks last year, while Australia had 22%. Reunion Island 0%. It is no longer as dangerous as it used to be.

My island is not perfect and shark attacks are certainly a reality, it is part of nature and nature is part of the beauty of my island, guys don't worry there are lagoons where you could bathe peacefully, it is so good to stay in Reunion island. 🐋🌋🌴
