He's the last of his people and he needed to prove that what his people stood for, what they died for mattered. That valuing life isn't a weakness, and disregarding it is not strength.
Yes, this!! I've seen so many people say that Aang was weak for not deciding to kill Ozai in the end, but to me that was the coolest way of showing Ozai who's really in charge. That's throwing what the fire nation did to the air nomads back in their face - even though they tried to wipe out all their culture and all their people, Aang fought back, won, and STILL managed to maintain his values and beliefs in the end. What an epic way to defeat your enemy imo

100% agree. I really love dynamics that test character morals; it's a huge part of aangs culture, identity, and beliefs to save lives and not take them. I like emphasizing part 1 of this finale cuz it's so heartbreaking when aang speaks with the past life of another air monk-avatar; when she tells him that his morals come second. While I don't agree with aang's perspective, I believe in his right to discover for himself how to lead by example.
It's a shame that the LionTurtle isn't foreshadowed well enough to be an allegorical answer to aang's dilema, but for a show about an AVATAR of Divine intervention, it's passes the theme of an answer always being out there if we look for it.

I like the idea that Ozai's surprised face due to Aang's lightning redirection isn't primarily because he is facing death at that moment, rather than because he is realising that Zuko kept indeed his word, when he told his father at the end of the invasion that he is going to leave the fire nation and join the Avatar to teach him everything he needs to defeat Ozai. It was at this scene that Ozai has seen someone redirecting lightning for the first time as he is not aware that Iroh has that skill as well. The next time he sees someone do it is right here in the fight against Aang. As he didn't see his son after the invasion, it is right here, that he knew Aang learnt it from Zuko.

FUN FACT: well not really fun since it's tragic. the voice actor of azula didnt watched the last episode. she said that she went through the voice recording by herself and dig deep on herself to make azula's breakdown as real as possible. she cant stand watching herself because the scene is too dark for her and the process she went through to pull it off.
Yeah I heard a lot of voice actors don't rewatch their own work.

Um... yeah, that's not where the base of the spine is. Considered horizontally, Aang's injury is somewhere between the fire chakra (stomach) and air chakra (heart).
Katara says in the first episode of Book 3 that there’s a lot of energy twisted up and stuck in his injury. Aang opened his chakra at the end of season two but the energy was trapped.

I think the lion turtle actually helped clear up the energy block by bending Aang's chi, but it took the shock to the system that getting hit in that exact spot created that allowed him to go into the Avatar state. If the lion turtle hadn't done that, the strike to the spine wouldn't have worked.

People really forget Azula is 14 years old raised in an abusive home but unlike Zuko didn’t have an uncle Iroh to help her. She’s a tragic character.
yeah people think she deserves it but she had no choice being raised by ozai, imo one of the more tragic stories in the show
Exactly. I would argue that she’s wasn’t even raised by Ozai- she was trained to follow his orders and to meet his expectations. He saw her as nothing more than a soldier; a pawn.
Yeah, it blew my mind when I found that out. I just always assumed she was older than Zuko.
Well to be fair, they were both raised by their parents for an equal amount of time. It wasn't until Zuko's banishment that Iroh ended up taking him under his wing. And even when they were young, Zuko showed kindness and sincerity while Azula showed malice and cruelty. Its also another reason why the mother feared her. I think a part of why Azula is the way she is because of the way her father raised her, but the other part is definitely because that who she is.
She is too much looked up on Ozai and ignoring her mother who deeply cared for her. That's why she felt her mother sees her as a monster. Also, if you remember in Zuko alone, kid Azula still had her fires red not blue. My theory is her fires turn blue not because she's prodigy but she deeps down miss her mother. Also, blue is the symbolism of calm, loneliness and sensitive and that's why she's so mad when she miss her hair got slipped at some point, when Mai and Ty Lee betray her, when her servant forgot to pick up the cherry pit, when her teachers suggested her to calm down and postpone the coronation, when she banish The Dai Li for being late and when she sees her mother in mirror even though she's not there. She is pushing herself to be perfect just to please her father because she doesn't want to be a failure like her brother and her uncle. That's why she feels alone in the end with no one cares of her anymore.

I like to think the placement of Zuko’s and Aang’s scars where they got shot by Azula was intentional. They represent the respective character’s journey through turmoil. Aang’s was on his back because he used to run away from his problems. Zuko’s was on his chest because he used to run towards his problems in an unhealthy way.

She thinks that all she needs is her father's approval, but it all came downhill when she realizes she was being used by her father and the only people she had personal relationship with has betrayed her.

The reason Katara couldn't redirect lighting is because it's a fire bending technique using water bending principles.
They redirect lighting like how water benders redirect water.
Doesn't that enlarge the possibility?
@@angeloann5945 It's a difference in elements. They're using the same forms but just because a Airbender learns Earthbending stances it doesn't make them anymore able to bend earth.
Firebenders can redirect lightning because Lightning is a thing they can manipulate, they bend it through their bodies by manipulating their internal energy flow and out in a different direction.
A waterbender might be able to redirect Lightning by letting it flow through a body of water as a defence but as far as we know that's not a technique they've developed likely because Lightning bending is extremely rare at this point in time. Katara especially wouldn't know a technique like that since most her training has been self-taught. Grandpaaku only taught her and Aang for a short time and Hama only really taught her about using water in living creatures.

Iroh says that the Avatar is so strong because he uses all 4 elements at once. They can also do that by using different forms, we actually see different forms throughout the show and Aang uses some of Toph's earthbending forms with other elements when he meets her. The shows fight choreography is actually way more in depth than it seems. They redirect lightning like a waterbender's form but it doesn't mean waterbenders can do it.

If you look closely, they're not the same necklace. Gyatso's was weathered and cracked, and the tassels have a different placement than Aang's. Also if you look back at S1E12 The Storm. All of the other airbending masters that we see with necklaces are all somewhat different. I always felt that perhaps each master made their own necklace and that is why he knew so certain that it was Gyatso's remains he found in S1E3.

The whole stranded episode after they go to the library shows all the characters without something they are used to having
Aang doesn't have Appa, who is his only connection to his people that he has left
Toph can't see with the sand, so she really does feel blind
Sokka is without his intellect, because he drank the cactus juice
Katara is the only one who is able to pull it together for everyone.
After rewatching this after so long makes me realize how much of a subtle character arch Iroh had himself. I mean yeah his trope is the “wise old man” but to see him go back and take back Ba Sing Se even though that was the kingdom he tried to lay siege to for 600 days and lost his own son to just really says something.
he always knew it was his destiny to take Ba Sing Se, but what he thought was as a conqueror when it actually was as a savior.
"I can't believe the captain remembered my birthday!" is such a good moment of humanizing the enemy.
the enemy who committed innumerable war crimes, human rights atrocities, multiple genocides while running active concentration camps for 100 years.
When it comes to a complex kid show humanizing enemies, nothing beats the She-Ra remake.

@@Haz1Art Isn't this literally what the Aang fire nation episode was about? They're sneaking around in the fire nation, and Aang accidentally gets put into one of their schools. He makes friends with the fire nation kids, and learns a lot about their culture. Ultimately they're not bad people, they're just put in terrible circumstances.

What I love about Aang is that literally everyone told him to kill the Firelord: his friends, the entire world, even past reincarnations of himself who are older and wiser. And still, Aang chose to follow his OWN path. This was a problem I always had in this show: the whole world literally expected Aang, a child, to kill someone and save the whole world just because he was born as the Avatar. Even though he was forced into this role, Aang still stayed true to himself. Great ending to a great show.
Technically, they gave plenty strong reasons for Ozai’s demise. The beauty of the show however is that there is not always one answer. Sometimes, you just have to do what you believe
And honestly, I'm not even sure if the predecessor Avatars even knew about the possibility of sealing someone else's bending powers. I think they would have at least mentioned it if they knew this could be an alternative.

tbh azula has one of the most saddest stories. and sadly, azula could’ve never had an redemption arc bc of her schizophrenia and how much her parents neglected her. obviously azula deserved her punishment but it’s sad that we know she could’ve been better if she had someone like iroh by her side.
Also the fact Iroh said she couldn’t be saved is sad. I heard there might be a book about Azula, I hope she gets a happy ending. Also did you know that Azula was suppose to have an arranged marriage in book 3 but the creators got rid of the idea. That would have made her menta breakdown even sadder 😔, but it would have made her redemption arc more interesting.
Actually, her redemption arc was supposed to be in book 4, but the writer’s strike put a stop to it.

That scene where Sokka is hanging onto Toph by the fingers always gets me. I can’t imagine how scared Toph is with her feet dangling and therefore can’t “see”. And Azula’s breakdown always makes me feel some type of way. She 100% got what she deserved but seeing a 14 year old child having a breakdown like that breaks my heart.
Also something I found interesting: in Zuko Alone, Azula makes a comment about Iroh not being a strong general because he came home crying after his defeat. Now here Azula is crying after her defeat.
There is a differnce. Iroh GAVE UP and came home crying. Azula fought to her last breath.

This and the Beach episode with Azula, Mai, Ty Lee, and Zuko is where I remember that Azula is only 14. Her actions are inexcusable, and she needs some serious mental health, but she's the exact same age as Katara. She's a teenager who had love and support from her mother, but was too blinded by her idolization for her father. She never truly realized that Ozai, never wanted what was best for her, and that Ursa actually loved her. At least the others had at least one person to count on. She had those people, but lost them along the way because in the end she wanted to be like Ozai. People followed under his rule because they fear him, she established friendships out of their fear of her. So when Ty Lee and Mai betrayed her, Fear failed her. She went through a psychotic break, and now she's chained up and crying.

Everything is in there if you can just tune in to it. Then you can even bend reality toward it sometimes, self fulfilling prophecy type stuff. Nature loves and rewards persistent courage by removing obstacles.

@@viruselperro9867 well Korra kind of reinforced both what the lion turtle said here and what Iroh told zuko in season 1 about how firebending works. By bending the energy in their bodies, they can influence the energy of things around them, thus bending the elements. The only thing that stopped both the lion turtles and benders from being like the avatar is that their energy has an affinity for one element whereas the Avatar has a special reason (explained in Korra) for being able to have essentially a spiritual affinity for all of the elements

The Lion Turtles were the first to give humanity the ability to bend, the original benders(dragons, badgermoles, sky bisons and moon) were still the first ones who taught humanity HOW to bend. Wan's old tribesmen are astonished at not only by the fact that he bent more than one element but that his bending is "like an extension of himself" in a way that it never was for the common people. That "extension of yourself" aspect, the techniques themselves, are what the original benders taught humanity.
I love that what gave Zuko a leg up on his sister was that he did what Iroh taught him: to use the other elements knowledge to his advantage. You can see him airbending and waterbending with fire

I genuinely loved the fact that aang didn't kill ozai, he stayed true to his nature while still being serious and handling the job.
I’ve seen some cool observations from UA-cam comments over the years that I really want to share!
First, Iroh always taught Zuko how breathing is key to fire bending. During the final Agni Kai, we see that Azula was out of breath while Zuko was just fine. Also, a lot of people were upset that Aang is a “wimp” for not wanting to kill the fire lord, but it actually connects well to how he was able to bend energy. The lion turtle said that to bend another’s energy, Aang’s own spirit must be unbendable. Throughout the past few episodes, he never went against his principles despite literally everyone telling him to kill the fire lord, which is a testament to how his spirit is unbendable.
Edit: another thing I remembered! This is likely just a fan theory, but during Ember Island Players, actor-Aang got shot in his (her??) chest by Azula instead of his back, and Zuko got shot in his chest at the end. That was probably foreshadowing!
And also he was the last of his people. Him not killing ozai was perfect. He represented his people perfectly. All the air nomads would be proud of him.
i always wonder. Can the other avatars before aang take away bending? Cause none of the other avatars seems to give him no solution other than just kill ozai, instead of telling him to take away his bending. If thats true, then his no killing attitude which annoy quite a number of people, has a very satisfying payoff. I believe if aang was the only one capable of taking away other peoples bending, i think its cause he has an incredibely strong will to not kill, even someone like ozai, which allow the lion turtles to give him that power. Maybe only those who have strong will against killing can be blessed by this power or something

I fucking hate everyone who thinks Aang is a 'wimp' for not killing Ozai. They are no better than Ozai. They think showing mercy is a weakness. Aang's sheer will made a Lion Turtle resurface out of nowhere, a celestial being that no one has seen since the spirit and mortal realms were separated. Only a person who is pure to the very core can stay uncorrupted when granted with absolute power.

What if she bends a stream of water from her to whatever she wants to hit? The lightning would strike the water and follow the path of least resistance.

Crazy thing about this show is the reviews, its got 9.3 on IMDB, 4.9 out 5 on google reviews and a whole ass 100% on rotten tomatoes. Its gotta be one of if not the best show nickelodeon has ever made and one of the best animated cartoons(collectively with among kids cartoons and adult cartoons) ever made.

Like, I get she is a super creepy and dangerous individual least people would want to have around in real life, but considering Zuko hat Iroh and she had no one except her father makes me question blame. Can you blame her for what she'd become if she had no other choice?
And that cry of agony probably partially comes from the fact Katara didn't even waste a second more to check if Azula was really "deactivated" and instead immediately running to Zuko. A kind of caring and love Azula prolly never received as her fathers approval is only earned by being a perfect soldier

Which is why she freaked when he said he’d be leaving her at the castle. She just wanted to be by his side & even by the end of it he just casts her aside. The he tries to soften the blow by saying her position is “important”.).
So she just did everything he told her for approval, as to not disappoint him. She’s the only parent she has left in her eyes so she just tries hard to obey (Also so she won’t turn out like Zuko),

The show is easy to predict tbh. It just goes in a straight path. And the hints is already there, you just have to decipher it. She just connected the dots. So id say this is just normal prediction for this show, but there are other times in other reaction when sheera suddenly knows where show is going despite the show gave nothing away. Its so accurate, out of nowhere its ridiculous

Watching this for the first time i was much younger and had no idea how the story would end, so it freaked me out when she figured it out right away, but rewatching the show as an adult i see where the plot is super predictable--but like you said when it comes on to other shows her prediction is no joke 😂
One thing I really love about Azula's interaction with Lo and Li is the discovery that they, Azula's firebending instructors, are themselves not firebenders.

I imaging bending is just like any other discipline. There are people who study theory and those that practice it. Lo and Li probably have entire knowledge of the fire bending forms, but cannot practice it.

One might wonder what the point would be, but I imagine each bending's martial style is rooted, in-universe, in a non-bending precursor, and so would still benefit a non-bender who knows it. In fact, Wan Shi Tong even threatened Katara, a waterbender, with his superior knowledge of all the known waterbending styles (Northern, Southern, and Foggy Swamp). And we know a bender of one element can learn the styles of others to bolster and broaden their own repertoire of techniques: Iroh redirecting lightning (like a waterbender), Karara dodging and evading water attacks (like an airbender) and then stopping a water attack head-on (like an earthbender), Chit Sang redirecting a fire attack (in perfect waterbender style), etc.
Besides, there's always intrinsic value in learning and mastering something new just for the art of it, even if it has no practical value.

I saw someone point this out and I loved it. When Aang redirected the lightning, Ozai wasn't shocked because he thought he was gonna die. He was shocked because he realized that Zuko went through with his promise to teach Aang all he needed to defeat him. Ozai realized that Aang really did have all the tools and that it was all thanks to Zuko. :)
Did anyone see how Katara used 3 water whips at once? To think how far she came, not knowing how to do one single water whip. She has truly advanced in her skills.
Not only does it show how far she's come, but look at the way she beat Azula. Zuko saved her life using a move created by studying the water benders. Katara beat Azula with her breath. Iroh: "fire comes from the breath, not the muscle"
my theory is that had Katara had even half the mindset of Azula.. she would be deadly, she might have even mastered blood bending without needing the mood (which is entirely possible) and that would so easily neutrallize either Azula or Ozai..

With this episode, I have now watched your entire series of Avatar: The Last Airbender reactions on UA-cam, and I want to thank you all for just how good, high quality, and hilariously funny these videos have been! This all started with me searching “Avatar reactions” on UA-cam, and it was the first time I’ve ever seen your channel. Now, months later, I’ve watched this whole series on your channel!
I’ve already watched the Avatar series before 2 years ago, and watching your reactions was like rewatching the whole series all over again but with all the humor that you’ve added, and it gave me a whole new appreciation for the series! (along with all the extremely insightful people in the comment section of every episode!)
You 3 are a perfect trio with amazing chemistry and you all contributed to an amazing and hilarious series of videos that I really enjoyed! I loved Roshi and Lupa’s sense of dark/adult humor that contrasted so well with the mostly lighthearted series; you made me laugh so many times! And Sheera’s impossible ability to always predict the future with the plot was crazy! And all together, you three were so perceptive with the small details and overall themes of the Avatar series, more so than any other reaction videos to any type of media I’ve ever seen before, that it made the overall experience really satisfying to watch! You guys really understood Avatar! And you might just have made the best reaction style content I’ve ever watched!

So for anyone asking: Ursula, Zuko’s mom, is alive. It’s explained in the comics that she was banished for protecting Zuko from his father. During her exile she met Koh, the face stealer, and he erased her memory.
The gang along with Zuko and Azula left to find Ursula. She didn’t remember her kids and they spent a while trying to get her memory back.
When they succeeded, she went back to the Fire Nation and it’s implied that Azula became good again.
