Hi, thanks for the video’s 👌. After some advise please. Just split my 50A to rebuild motor from broken Conrod. However when I split the motor off the transmission the torque coverter stayed in the transmission. Should this have come with the motor or can I just pull straight off the trans?
Secondly, the take up when pulling away is quite harsh and makes hard to pull away smoothly when precision is needed. Is there a way to adjust the take up to be smooth. I have the workshop manual but is very vague. Thanks so much. Regards Joel

      Hi There!
Thanks for asking! Yes, the torque converter is supposed to come out of the transmission attached to the engine. It sounds like you’ve got a broken torque plate there. The torque converter is bolted to the flywheel via the torque plate before reassembly. It’s really just a flimsy stamped steel plate which connects the converter to the flywheel, so what you should see is the centre’s been broken out and is still connected to the flywheel, while the larger piece is still connected to the converter. It’s a common problem, and relatively inexpensive to rectify. I’m in Canada and I ordered one for my machine through a local Massey dealer (AGCO), and they were $92.00 CDN plus tax. As far as the abruptness when taking off, test it again once it’s back together, and under the right floorboard, there are two linkages which can be adjusted. Does it happen in forward and reverse? Ideally, you want the machine to start moving before you introduce any throttle (and the machine should be at low idle-the throttle lock should only be used when using the backhoe), so if you have to adjust it, you’ll have to tighten the linkage just a bit until you get movement before you get throttle. Good luck with the motor and I hope the advice is if some use!
      Rick

Thanks for the prompt reply Rick. I don’t appear to have a torque plate. Is there some way I can send a couple of photos to show you. Looks like mine had several rubber knobs that just locate into the back of the flywheel. Cheers

Sorry, to answer your question. The harshness in take up is both forward and reverse. Thanks Joel

I just split my mf 40b and see a bronze washer of some sort damaged and half covering the hole in the converter about 2 inches inside of the coupler. It also seems to be leaking on the back side plate. Can you tell me what bronze peice that might be in there?
    Thanks Joel

Interesting! I’d like to see a photo of that. Could be that someone mucked it up during reassembly. By side plate, I assume you mean the round one. You can email a photo of the side plate as well to ricklongtin@bell.net

By backside plate I meant the cover where flex plate attaches, seems to be leaking from there. I will send you a picture, going to be removing it today.

Does anyone know where to get one of these torque converters ? I can't for the life of me find one I have called at least 25 places across USA and CAN. Like finding a needle in a haystack

      Hi there!
Do you know what part of the torque converter was damaged on yours?
