- Welcome back
This is our full video and audio remaster of
Grateful Dead - January 25, 1993
Oakland Coliseum Arena - Oakland, CA
We replaced the old audio that was on this video with charlie miller's 24-bit SBD master (downsampled by youtube) -- lineage is below.
Video source is from Lessthanface (lineage below) and has went through a lot of post-processing, color correction, black level and selective saturation adjustments, etc. deinterlaced from 720x480 NTSC to 640x480p60 (converted to square pixels and using motion vectors from the 60 fields per second to achieve a true 60fps progressive, and upscaled to 1080p60.. After this more post-work is done.
Custom scripting used for deinterlacing, custom upscaling workflow (changes based on video. I use workflows that I am experimenting with for my professional work on these videos, so they do evolve over time, none are the same, and I regularly go back to old videos to improve on them. This stuff is still pretty fluid, methods are always changing, and anything we've worked on that's less than ~1.5 years old will probably get a redo at some point. I'm just getting to a place where i feel comfortable with the output i'm getting out of these older VHS tapes and other old tape sources. It is time and money intensive to do this work, but we want to do it right even if we don't get it "just exactly perfect" the first time around.
All post production work on this was performed by Josh Davis and Christopher Hazard

I love how loud Bobby and Phil are in this era
The night before, Jan 24th 1993, the 1st show of '93, was truly amazing, an absolute, inspired stunner from the opening notes of an impassioned "Jack Straw" until the gentle fade-out of the bittersweet "Knockin' On Heaven's Door" encore.
While this show (Jan 25th) had some bright spots, Jerry's struggle to remember lyrics and the inclusion of the lackluster songs "Way To Go Home" and "Corrina" made it overall another mostly forgettable 1993 show...
The next night, the actual Chinese New Year show, featured a 2nd Set sit in by Carlos Santana that was also uneven, but the "Gloria" encore was a barnburner rave-up for the ages.
Seriously, for anyone looking for an inspired, brilliantly played Grateful Dead show from 1993, check out 1/24/93. The "Black Peter" was as good as ANYTHING Jerry Garcia played in the last 10 years of his life...
Cheers from here in a brutally cold Krakow, Poland!!!
Matthew from Salt Lake
Loose Lucy 44:08 Corinna 1:21:42 .Anyway you could clean up Van Morrison Montreux 80 ? Looks clear, but has some tape drags like the 76 Dead H-S-F did, 2 tape drags on Haunts of Ancient Peace, so off video, but it seems like it would have been a laserdisc at some point ✌❤💀
Home cookin’ always looked good on Jerry
gotta love the billionaire in kmart shirt & sneakers, hehehe
Althea outro w/ Jer beaming, i miss that, Mr Sunshine🍊
Jerry makes me really realize that playing guitar is like flying a ufo, where the hell am I?
Thank you videographer for the close up of a Jerry Tutorial, this is a great tool, repeat and practice. and ty Chris for the touch up- Noice!😘
sweeeet.. love me some ‘93 .. I saw 12 shows that year 😮😮😮
i bet he used his fret hand so smooth and gentle
My first show. This is the one that sunk this music in for life. The world we live in that lets us have this stuff to relive right at our fingertips is amazing. The second set transformed my world. That point on allowed for a new understanding of what music can do to the human mind. Thank you Mr. Hazard!
Garcia is god
ya'll jus want ne to be like you, but i'm off the farm, and the handle😜
GRATEFUL DEAD GENIUSZ GENIUSZ GENIUSZ nad GENIUSZAMI KOSMOS KOCHANI na zawsze dziękuję BARDZO i MIŁOŚĆ ☮️ POKÓJ MUZYKA tak
How many kids do they really all have, more than Marley i bet, hehehe. Someone should do a book/video and interview these Dead Children- hiding secrets brings shame and guilt- release it, those days are gone!
That was awesome, Thanks bro :) great quality as well both sound and video
I was at the is show, THANK YOU! 🙏🏽🌈⚡♥
Jerry doesn't look to happy to me
Yes. Agreed
Wild, 1st time for me seeing Bobby use boho theatric hand gestures while singing, and to great effect raising his stature, salute Bobby
great to see you! i was getting concerned, you were silent for so long. cheers and thanks for the shows.
Ain't gonna put it in Maggie's bag no more, i'm w/ Loosey now😛
Thanks Chris for sharing this treasure, but GD without Brent is not the same
I think you're just the bees knees, Mr. Hazard. Because of you, ive gotten to see some of the magic you older heads actually got to witness first hand. Grateful to be around ❤
Yesssss
This is a fun video to watch, thanks Hazard, this one of 3 shows I saw in 93.
Btw ...any chance the May 1990 Dominguez Hills shows in LA have video that could be shared ? Those were excellent shows during Mydland's last few months
Corrina is such a vibe. I always love when they play that.
Listened to 3/10/93 Corrina > MLB the other day and it won me over
Thank you man
Thank you Chris! ♥️⚡️💙☮️✨️
