Just got mine. It is soo beautiful! The suppleness is incredible. It carries so well, just kind of molds to your arm. I love the size: substantial yet not unwieldy. Very, very pleased. Thanks again for your review which helped my choose this lovely Bible!
I love your bible reviews. I hope you will do an allan 52. I've seen tons of reviews for allan 53 bibles but I would love to see a 52 review from you specifically!
I'm glad you got to feature one of these amazing bibles on your channel! I have a 52 Longprimer in brown calfskin and its amazing! Been looking into a Schuyler PSQ now. Great review!
Great review Pastor Steve! Interesting to note that the study helps at the back (Proper Names/Subject Index/Concordance) are precisely those found at the back of the Scofield, or at least the 1917 edition. Like you I prefer the Cambridge text, in great part because the Oxford doesn't use italicized words. I have some Allans, but I always find myself going back to an LCBP or CBP! Blessings!
How do you feel about the lack of italics in a Longprimer? I really like the design of the Sovereign but it seems like the lack of italics keeps me away. Also I don't quite like that the Longprimer (unlike the Brevier Clarendon) uses strange references and the RV (English Revised Version - Westcott and Hort) text for certain footnotes here and there. It just feels weird.
Appreciate the detailed review. The Allan Longprimer is a beautiful bible indeed - a wonderful presentation of God’s Word. Cows may live to be 18-22 years old. As nice and supple as calves’ hides may be for leather, it’s a shame they’re being harvested at 3 years old, approximately 15% of their natural lifespan. The full yap makes better sense for rainy and foggy climes like the British Isles or the Pacific Northwest where people want to protect the print block paper when taking their bibles out to Church and such.
New Life Of Albany Ga. That’s a nice thought. More likely calves raised for veal, but I’m sure others know better than I. Someday they may be able to grow leather in a lab, not unlike cell cultures grown in a lab or yeast cultures used to bake bread, brew beer, or ferment wine.
Translator to the Readers.... yes should be there. Your review is spot on. I have a 62 and a 63, I like the full yapp better. OH.... I disagree with you..... I don't like red lettering. Since I was a kid I have had issue with red letter Bibles.
You should NEVER stand any Premium Bible up on a bookshelf 😮 that will cause stress on the spine.... soooo please keep them in the boxes and laying flat to store them 😉📚👍
Great review; beautiful bible, I do love large print bibles and thicker paper with art gilding. Nevertheless, No italicized added word in the KJV is a no go for me.
It also amazes me that they avoid Israel going through the water , to me this means they dont beleive that scripture is not inerrant, it leaves me speechless which is very rare ....ask my wife .
Yes. Allan makes a Cameo by Cambridge that's printed by Jongbloed that has red letter and their long out of print NKJVs (e.g., NKJV 1 R) have red lettering.
I live in the UK England and can only buy cambridge bibles from Amazon, the only other store I can get a bible is " w,h.Smith", and I was only able to buy those little white oxford kjv, or the cheap plasticy bonded leather Collins kjv , and the Thomas Nelson thinline kjv . There sure is a famine for the word of God in this country, you cant even preach in the street without being arrested by the freemason police.
Nope. Calfskin is rarely better that goatskin. This happens to be one of those times. And yap is a matter of preference. You certainly can’t stand a Bible up with a full yap. God bless!
You said yourself that calf marks up easily. And no Bible should ever be stood on one end unless it’s a hardback! For verily I say unto you that a yap full is a Bible happy.
My favorite bible rebinding I have had done was with some smooth black Kangaroo I bought a hide of. It is the toughest (not an opinion), and best feeling leather imo.

I did receive the 62 yesterday and waited for the 43 and the 5WM

I’m glad that it is only black letter edition
Thanks so much for your excellent review. Just ordered this in red...what a beautiful piece of work!
Amen!
It's hard to appreciate an Allan until you have one in your hands, and you handle it, and you read it.
Yes, amen!
Hi Pastor, nice bible my longprimers pages fell out after a yr of use, they agreed to swop ut out for a Cambridge Concord Bible
Amen!!
(I'd buy a Longprimer - but it's way out of my price range. My current Allan was a gift.)
Amen!

I wonder if it’s the hide of cows that die a young, natural death?

I have a 53 and will have 43, and 62 coming in the king James
I don't like Oxford's reference system either. The World Bible Publishing's Heritage Reference system has always been my personal favorite.
Great to know.
Great review; beautiful bible, I do love large print bibles and thicker paper with art gilding. Nevertheless, No italicized added word in the KJV is a no go for me.
Thanks for sharing!
Did Allan buy Oxford. ?
How much DOES it cost?
Would love to send you one of my rebinds for review!
Go ahead!
New Life Of Albany Ga. how would I do so?
Does R.L. Allan use the Pure Cambridge text?
No
It also amazes me that they avoid Israel going through the water , to me this means they dont beleive that scripture is not inerrant, it leaves me speechless which is very rare ....ask my wife .
Wanted to add: the Bible IS leather lined. :)
Thank you!
Do the Allan bibles have Jesus word in red? If so, which one brother?
No
Yes. Allan makes a Cameo by Cambridge that's printed by Jongbloed that has red letter and their long out of print NKJVs (e.g., NKJV 1 R) have red lettering.
Is this bible available in goatskin leather?
Yes, periodically.
I had the 52 Blue Goatskin
Beautiful!
wow prolly wont be able to afford something that nice Im a new Chaplain Minister in Prison Ministry would love a bible like that
I like the Red Letter editions
I'm more a Black Letter type...because all the words are the Word of God.
sarachikorita there is no denying of that fact, but it makes it easier to find and read the specific words of Jesus
True.
Some do some don’t. Red letter Bibles are preferred by the buying public at large according to sellers.

All these reviews and this man still hasn’t figured out that we can’t see it this far back.
Our camera folks try to zoom in.
I don't think any Allans have The Translators to the Reader. The Clarendon certainly doesn't (I have a 7C).
Interesting.
I wish they didn’t move away from the highland goatskin.
CAMBRIDGE is much more readable..darker print. 1/3 price. No brainer.
Is this in black calfskin?
Yes
I’m not a fan of red letter
Your Cambridge is more bolder
Yes!
A full yap is an inconvenience? Calf skin is better than goatskin?
Hidden motive alert!
Nope. Calfskin is rarely better that goatskin. This happens to be one of those times.
And yap is a matter of preference. You certainly can’t stand a Bible up with a full yap. God bless!
