thank god, now i can finally work on something else. real quick, two things i forgot to mention in my summary at the end: - regarding love being in crisis: there's a case to be made about the commodification of human interaction being more at the forefront of why our perceptions of what is "healthy" or "normal" in dating are so warped and at-odds with what we actually want from love in our lives. we're more interconnected and able to talk with and meet people than we ever have been in history, yet we've paradoxically never felt more lonely and atomized from one-another. part of that is due to how "gamified" human interaction has become in all facets of life. we see each other as mere prizes; items to be won; nothing more than a box-ticking exercise. how can we say human connection is more possible now than ever if we see each other not as human, but as mere objects? - regarding the misogyny question: i don't jive with the idea that because the protagonist/main character of a story has some odious beliefs (i.e. misogyny) or engages in morally reprehensible behavior (i.e. emotional manipulation) that that is inherently an endorsement of those beliefs/actions. at no point has it ever been required for the audience to sympathize or agree with the plight or actions of the protagonist just because its their perspective we are given; at no point has it ever been stated that the main character of any story has to be the "good guy" or the moral standard. again, i'm not exactly well-versed enough to speak on what is or isn't misogynistic in their lyrics specifically, but the idea that their music as a whole perpetuates and encourages misogynistic attitudes and is therefore harmful because the perspectives and feelings depicted aren't always nice is, simply put: very silly. also, upon trying to upload i was immediately hit with a copyright claim for a nine second clip of audio. i'm hoping my dispute is accepted, since i'm pretty sure i'm well within the realm of "Fair Use." so if this video disappears or if it's missing audio drops during the song title cues, you'll know why. that's all for now. feel free to leave your own interpretations, analyses, and critiques if you think i missed something (because i probably did).
personally i thought daughter of a cop at mid tier was pretty criminal (its a great song with a catchy, fast beat that tells a story, its 2nd best on french exit) but bro made up for it by making a whole new tier for anjela
I appreciate the fact that you could actually do a ranking of so much songs... My beautiful memory could never let me do it, I'd forget the rhyme of the songs, how they sounded and the lyrics a second after just playing it to rank it. I couldn't watch this video actually, my concentration is also shit, so unless I'm REALLY into something I can't focus, sorry, I'm also sorry for anyone that saw this comment and realized I was lying in the first part because maybe the video didn't actually rank them all and it's my fault for saying that without even checking the video in the first place. Apparently, my concentration couldn't go after 6:38, which is a lot more than it used to do before, so I'll take it as a win.
Literally Lover’s Rock and Not Allowed are on the tiers I imagined they would be and the tiers describe how the songs sound to me. Lover’s Rock is so damn beautiful despite the meaning. Not Allowed is actually Ethereal lmao coz it’s prob one of the best modern songs I’ve ever heard when it comes to the sounds and instrumentals….. and that verse… when “All by yourself, sittin’ alone” hits and everything else after that…. So many emotions. Overall I somehow feel relaxed during that part. Plus, I’ve been hearing that specific audio for sooo many months thru out Instagram and tiktok. Literally been looking for it forever and I finally found the song. Listened to it nonstop ever since. Blue Hair is also amazing when it comes to sound.
Don't think I'll be watching this in one sitting (especially considering it's midnight for me) but I'll definitely watch it all. Glad it only took you half a year to upload again lol
this was a REALLY great video i’ve truly never seen anyone go so in depth about the meanings behind tv girl’s projects and analyze them like this. i HEAVILY agree on how good anjela is, same for not allowed and blue hair. there were only really a couple of things i disagreed with, which were the rankings of the getaway and benny & the jetts. idk if it’s because those were some of the songs that convinced me to really listen to tv girl, or if i just like the sound, but they really stick out to me and honestly the getaway (and anjela) is the reason why french exit is my favorite project from them. i just wanted to say that this is actually an amazing video and thanks for making it🤘
haven't seen anything that's dived into their whole body of work and dissected what it could mean or where it comes from (at least thus far), so i figured i'd take a stab at it. i'm thinking about going through each of their albums individually and doing actual artistic critique and analysis, but i'm still in the planning/conceptual phase lol

I love how tv girl is both overrated and underrated because the top 5 most popular songs are super over played but 95% of their discography is also GOATED
I did a discography dive for a friend a few months and it's funny to see how much our opinions differ, I haven't checked that much from the early EPs or that Maddie album but it's funny to wait till to see you talk about how much you love GUTV While I despise that album and think it's their worst by far 💀
see and i think that's wild. my friend and i both agree Grapes Upon the Vine is incredibly slept-on and a great foray into different sounds and musical influences. sure it's not exactly the sound/mood that people typically come to TV Girl for, but it's a testament to how they can grow and develop into something fresh. plus, as a project, i feel it's probably the most in-tune with their overall ethos, even more so than Death of a Party Girl.
lo on the highway not being top tier is criminal. only other change I'd really make is placing king of echo park a tier higher cuz i FW that song heavy oh nah summers over isnt top tier 💀 EWWWW HE PUT GRAPES OVER IT AND FRENCH EXIT NOOOOOOOOOO YOU WERE DOING SO GOOD 💀💀💀💀💀 pretty good lists all things considered
