That is called a spinnaker clip. Used to attach to the clew of a spinnaker sail. Can be unfastened remotely with a small line in case you need to dump the sail in a hurry. Good idea.
Great idea using that quick release clasp. Makes it easy and fast to release with tension on the anchor line. I'm in the process of rigging up the same setup. Thanks for sharing.
I just went out in a kayak for the first time two days ago with a friend of mine who let me borrow one of his. I have a fishing kayak on order that is due in at the end of the month and I have been doing research to see how to do these things. Thank you very much for this video as it answered a lot of my questions.
I've had this for several years with countless trips on it. Feel free to ask anything you like. Spending hard earned money like this, answers and concerns are nice to know.
This is definitely the safest and smartest way to run a trolley system. Attaching directly to the O Ring is dangerous because it can either be at the bow or stern, or even worse get pulled under your yak. I would tie a small nylon rope to the disconnect ring and attach a brightly colored handle to it, like a ripcord on a parachute. That way you can just yank that and you are instantly cut free. Also this is nice because you don't have to attach a cleat to your side and have the possibility of that getting bound up on accident. I'll probably do a retractable that attaches to the float then to the anchor. You can easily dump the entire rig if need be, and also never have to worry about loose lines laying around.
Awesome, been looking for a simple easy way to have a quick release anchor system and you my friend nailed it. Very much appreciate you sharing your little hack.
Thank you for sharing.I have just been on EBay and ordered one myself plus I have subscribed to your page.Keep these videos coming mate and stay safe. From Lincoln in England 🏴 🛶👍😊
Thank you for the kind words. I'm actually setting out in half an hour to capture some footage I've wanted for several years. 3 hr. Drive, but excited!
Would also recommend using an appropriately sized cam cleat. No mechanical part that could fail and is super fast to unclip even under extreme tension.
Hey man, this definitely helped me! I have the same Yak Attack HD anchor trolley system installed. I normally fish in the flats and anchor with a stick pin. Being able to quickly cut away isn't a huge concern back there, but recently I've been fishing some waters where it's a bigger concern, and was looking at a secondary anchor setup when I'm doing that. This was REALLY helpful. Thanks again.
Mind clarifying, this seems like a safety precaution but I'm not sure the circumstance where you'd need to just cut away your anchor on a kayak. Big boat/imminent collision or what?
@@alittel07 yes, I've had to cut for boat wake and to land larger fish. Once was to help a fellow kayaker in trouble. Kind of like a gun, hopefully never need, but damn glad ya have it if you really need it.
@@alittel07 Also almost a must have for river fishing, sometimes the current can push or pull your yak (or canoe) sideways and that with the anchor can capsize you, being able to quickly release that tension on the line can save you big time
As we say in Da'Burgh...WINNER, WINNER, CHICKEN DINNER! I had to sacrifice my QR slip knot system when I "upgraded/complicated" my system with an anchor wizzard...I now have new hope, LOL.
Only 2 problems I saw with this set up is - 1 You don't have a Rudder (you need a rudder and the retract ball is on that side of the kayak) and 2 - The anchor line runs from your seat frame which is inside the Kayak all the way up to the front or back and it will tangle on anything you have on the side of your kayak wether it be rod holders or accessories on the tracks or a crate out back with stuff off the sides or rods out of the rear rod holders. Great Kayak, I have the BF 120 myself, love it.
It actually does have a rudder. I agree these B.F. kayaks are mandatory for them. The 1st time I took this one out for a test it didn't have one. Came home that day and ordered one..lol As to the other concerns, its going on 3 or 4 years now and it's had no issues with tangles or ease of use. To be fair, I'm right handed and the reason they are all on the left is I hold a pole and some cameras on the right. They are incredible kayaks. This year 3 waters / Feel Free sent me a B.F. 103 pedal drive for my channel so we are running both now. But being my channel has evolved into mainly video and photography, the 103 has become my main filming platform as shown in several videos from this season. Thank you for watching and commenting! I do appreciate you taking that time for both!
@@richburg8084 this last season I was sent a Big Fish 103 pedal drive for my film work. I did the same thing on the 103, but opted for a thicker one to try it. It stays in place better. I just removed the floor plates and used them as a template. But he sure to seal the screws up afterwards on the 103 or 120. The 103 and 108 have a different system so the screws go into a plug and not directly into the hull.
Thank you! It never gets old knowing ya may have helped someone. Fyi, this setup has been serving me well with no further mods since making this video.

@@Amberdogproductions thanks for the response I ready like the video and I'm going to try to find the items. Is it possible if you would be so kind and text me the items. I'm looking forward to seeing more of your helpful videos. Thank you
Its actually pretty secure. And has held up well. Its stainless so that helps. I have however put a drop of oil inside for the spring for obvious reasons.
Hi Anthony, I used well nuts with stainless screws. The well nut pushes into the hull and as you tighten it, the rubber expands and seals it all up tight.
If need be, just put the loop at desired depth. My rope is only 30' so about 26' actually used give or take so I've not worried about it as the swing is really not far.
Having an anchor quick-release system is the way to go. Down under here in Australia 🇦🇺 we call that quick release shackle you have, a yachting “Ronstan Snap Shackle”. However, I see a major problem with your system! You haven’t incorporated a Zig Zag Cleat or something similar to take the weight of the Kayak when at anchor. What was demonstrated in the video was you running the anchor line/eye through the ring on the trolley system, and then attaching it to the quick-release shackle, which in turn was attached to the bottom of the seat in your Kayak. I’m not sure how secure the seat is in your Kayak, but I doubt it was designed to be used as the “bitter end” of an anchoring system. In the right/wrong conditions I could envisage you standing up in your Kayak, and your seat deciding it no longer wants to be onboard your Kayak, flying across the deck, knocking you overboard as it tries to squeeze through the ring in your anchor trolley 😀
Actually the seat in the 3 waters big fish is anchored in very well. I do mention using a zig zag cleat if needed or wanted. On this application on this kayak, its proven rock solid for several years now and countless trips out. For me, I have opted for no cleat as it's just one more thing to worry about. But I do use them on other kayaks I have. When I use this anchor on my other kayaks, normally I attach the quick release setup to the side handles, as there is no seat on them.
I have the same exact kayak. I love mine too. Is your anchor trolly the HD version? I want to do the exact set up as yours. That said, where can I get everything. How heavy is your anchor? I found the trolly on line. Where do you keep the anchor rope? Thanks
I ordered my anchors from wallmart. They came with rope, float and a bag to store them in. As to storing while out, I flip it over and stick the end in one of the flush mount rod holders.
So how do you get it back. I have a float tied to my line and enough line so that the float is on the anchor side of the anchor trolley. I tie a slip knot on my seat so all I have to do is pull t and I am free. After whatever the reason was that I needed to release my self from the anchor is past I can go back and find the float and retrieve my anchor.
Ok, I just can't unsee it. Do you have really deep pockets in your jeans? I see a bulge on your right thigh and it's throwing me off. Sorry if it's a personal/medical thing, just bugging me. Great video though.
Lol, never noticed, but yes, those are my pockets and I had some keys, and some extra line in my pocket. I'm often a walking toolbox as well. Seems I'm always fixing or working on things.
I have used it in all water conditions. I do not kayak in the ocean though. I'm mainly on lakes. And if you need to get your bow into a wave from a speeding boat, or god forbid a wake boat with an idiot at the wheel, your gonna need something fast.
