1: they can count to alyx, not 3 2: if a portal 3 was made, it would be either about the birds GLaDOS has now or chell coming back to aparture because outside is hl
Chell is also theorized to be caroline's daughter and is also another reason why GLaDOS was nice to chell after hearing the recordings also 1 last employee survived the 2nd nuero toxin attack and moved chell up to the top of the list for test subjects and the journey begins
Remember when the blue core from the first portal game that give out ingredients like "fish shaped soild waste", etc. That not real ingredients for the cake, so that "intelligence" sphere/core Chell destroyed but some how survived and became Wheatley... why you may ask? cause after GLaDOS got turned into a Potato and became PotatOS she said this to him "I know you.... the engineers tried to slow me down and make me behave... they once attached an intelligence core onto me it filled me with terrible ideas like a tumor.. it was your voice.. you were the tumor" But hey it's just a theory.. a game theory
What do y’all think about the end of Portal 2 in relation to Half-life. These are details about the outside world according to GLaDOS Portal: Are you trying to escape? Things have changed since the last time you left the building. What's going on out there will make you wish you were back in here. I have an infinite capacity for knowledge, and even I'm not sure what's going on outside. All I know is I'm the only thing standing between us and them. Well, I was. Portal 2: Fifty thousand years is a lot of time to think. About me. About you. We were doing so well together. I'm going to go to the surface. It's a beautiful day out. Yesterday I saw a deer. Well, you passed the test. I didn't see the deer today. I did see some humans. But with you here I've got more test subjects than I'll ever need. These bridges are made from natural light that I pump in from the surface. If you rubbed your cheek on one, it would be like standing outside with the sun shining on your face. I was outside watching some deer frolic. You don't even care about the outside do you?
the curiosity core dampened her curiosity of learning more about Chell trough the cameras in every chamber as stated in this line during the final battle after destroying the curiosity core: "I let you survive this long cause I was curious about your behavior but you destroyed that part of me"
my brain hurts after watching this Edit: the fact that he said caroline made GLaDOS nicer and when GLaDOS deleted caroline her voice got louder and very unhuman. By the way im GLaD Portal 2 is still relevant
somewhere in portal 2, glados says that in the list of test subjects there was a man and a woman with chells last name. and chells full name is chell johnson. then theres cave johnson but idk who the mother is. tbh it probably is caroline because she was closest to cave. edit: its around the end of chapter 3.
That doesn’t explain why GLaDOS tries to constantly kill her. In both games literally straight up tries to throw her in the pit or suffocate her with the neurotoxin. You would think if Caroline was still in there , GLaDOS subconscious would tell her to stop don’t kill my daughter.
@@eden20111 but GLaDOS is completely insane, and the modifications made to her consciousness would have almost silenced the original caroline. plus if GLaDOS really wanted to kill Chel, she could have just not moved the elevators, or not given her the portal gun in the first place
@@eden20111 GlaDOS having control over an entire underground facility would be extremely easy to kill a single human in there. For example, While Chell is inside a test chamber why couldn't GlaDOS just crush the test chamber along with Chell? Or just tricking Chell with giving her an exit at the end when in reality it was a huge room that simulated the outside all the while with trace amounts of neurotoxin. Or simply remove the White portal panels and only use black ones, then either crush her, poison her, shoot her or whatever. There are lots of ways GlaDOS could have killed Chell throughout the game, In portal 1 where you get nearly thrown into the incinerator, Why would she put white portal walls in the incinerator room? If not simply for the portal gun. Besides, In a few Canon and Semi-Canon music/songs from Portal, it sometimes hints at GlaDOS feeling bad about the stuff she did. Which is why she deleted Caroline because with Caroline GlaDOS could think on her actions with a more humane view. With GlaDOS deleting Caroline just proves she doesn't want to think about what she did and simply wants to keep to her robotically cold thinking. Even in Portal 2 when you are just at the part where you go back up to the normal test facilities with Wheatley, She says something along the lines: "This is the first time I am thinking for myself with a normal point of view and honestly... It scares me." I could go on for entire paragraphs but I got school in the morning and I don't want to be too late.
@tr3v0r I mean GlaDOS mocks Chell for being adopted so she could be Caroline’s biological daughter and Cave Johnson just forced someone to adopt her, like Rattman
I love how well made this video is, solid lore and extremely well fitted footage! About the lore, do you think the scientists ended up forcing Caroline into GLaDOS, or did she volunteer? I wonder if the anger of being forced into a machine drove her mad, or was it the power of the chassis, as it was for Wheatley?
@@Skyrionn not implied, * directly stated *. *“No, no! I don’t want this. Do you hear me? I DON’T WANT THIS!”* -voice-recording of Caroline, During one of the Old Aperture levels, shortly before returning to New Aperture.
the problem, is that its likely not been very long since portal 1 for two main reasons, one being that Chells body hasn't deteriorated by much in the so called 5000 - 500,000 years, which defies even cryrostasis. and that the storage device that GLaDOs is stored on, likely to be an SSD memory card, due to its impact resistance and general strength, only lasts a maximum of ten years without power. And as the only systems kept from going critical were the reactor and active cores(GLaDOs not being one of them, as seen in portal 2), the facility deteriorated quickly as there were no maintenance staff capable of repairing the facility. plant life grew and accelerated the decay of the facility after the initial decay, causing it to be in the state it is in portal 2.An, to top it all off, portal was set in 2010, meaning that at latest, portal 2 could have occurred in 2020
This is such an informative video! I love reaserching video games and this was amazing! Keep up the great work! Edit: You are welcome my dude! I am thinking about doing this kind of stuff on my channel, and i had an idea for your “The Lore Behind” videos. The three corrupt cores from the end of Portal 2. (Space core, Adventure core, Fact core), and basically how they became corrupt, and what they were made to do before their corruption. I would really love to see that video, but I understand if you are busy and can’t do it right away or ever. Just a fun suggestion! Keep up the great work!
So if Portal 2 does take place 50000 years after Portal 1 (not including the first wake up in her room) the GLaDOS would have relived her last two minutes about 6,574,500,000 times, give or take a few more or less depending on the specifics. But still the number is so large it’ll barely make a difference anyway.
Think about that, over 50,000 years reliving your extremely painful and horrifying death over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over, and over, AND over again till you have officially lost your mind, and gained a burning hatred of the pesky little human that fried you billions of times over.
Welcome aboard! We have a discord too :) (Mostly talk about Fable but we could do with more Half-Life/ Portal people in there) Link is in the desciption.
This is a very intriguing storyline. It's interesting how a select few people decide what is best for others and create things that end up destroying both themselves and numerous others. Reminds me of the line from Jurassic park: "God creates dinosaurs, God kills dinosaurs, God creates man, man kills God, man creates dinosaurs." When left to our own "wisdom" the best we can do is sometimes terrifyingly tragic. Robots become "valuable" and humans become "test subjects" - reminds me a lot of our modern world in which human life (the unborn, the elderly, the handicapped) matters less than other life or created things (plants, animals, technology). GLaDOS and her cynical murderous nature (all those humans die in a week?!?!) are just the boiled down and concentrated darkness within her creators. If they released a third installment, it would be neat to see Caroline freed from GLaDOS.
@@nyarlathotep4889 i thought it was sooner, because when she escapes she’s in a wheat field, which means the combine have probably been kicked out of earth, since someone has planted all the wheat crop near aperture and let it grown. and portal one takes place just after the invasion (2003~) which means she would’ve been asleep for like 20
I didn't know she got through all those newly discovered test subjects. I really thought they were a loose end that might even help repopulate Earth depending on whats happened in the meantime on the surface.
4:02 Were do you base this race versus Black mesa on? It's quite clear that when Cave Johnson was alive they already had a portal gun, so that was invented before GLADoS was even around and the thing was that Black mesa stole inventions from aperture science, they didn't just make the same stuff.
I liked most of the video, but you forgot to mention Doug Rattman and the fact that Caroline was unwilling to become GLaDOS. I like how you included the events of Portal 2, most videos don't do that, and you even included coop.
So, I know this is probably just a game design choice, but a bunch of things became much different, like cores, or cubes turning orange when you put them on the button, or even GLaDOS losing the gray thing over where the black is in the Portal 2, all though, I think that the last one could be from the explosion
GlaDOS didn't deleted Caroline she just wanted to let it lock like she did because she didn't wanted that Chell thinks she became soft. Ps: There are facts that prove it.
You mean how how she murdered thousands of humans in less than a week? She only let Chel go because she literally couldn't kill her. Her humanity made her save Chel after that she deleted it and let Chel leave.
There's no way Portal 2 takes place after 50,000 years. Ratman is still heard chattering in his dens, and it's unlikely the facility could have kept chell alive for that long without actually turning her brain in bad burger meat.
She literally controls an entire science facility including the manufacturing parts of it, she basically just has to make a new face plate where the turrets etc are produced and done. I mean, she literally rebuilds the whole broken down facility single handedly, making a face plate is a minor struggle at best.
And how else would glados get back into the facility plus glados doesn't have the same look or fearures making people think that portal 1 Glados is a prototype and portal 2 Glados to be a newer model that just was deteriated over time during the 50,000 years of Chell being asleep
I'm pretty sure that the whole "Chell slept 50,000 years" thing is false. Yes, there was a deleted voice line from GlaDoS backinc that up, and the announcer's counter could, in theory, state that too, but in "Courtesy Call" you can find a lable telling that people in hibernation will expire after 20 years and by looking at the degree the facility has been reclaimed by nature and the fact that both paper and manmade wooden structures are still around and in decent shape tells me that no more than a low number of decades passed
Yes i agree. If really was 50 000 years the fasiliti would be whole gone. My guess it is around 10 to 15 years or close to 10. We cannot trust the anauncer in begining of the game because he is, after long time withaut repairing, brouken.
I feel like wheatley and glados both become obsessed with tests and careless because it was made for cave Johnson, and that a lot of those traits are similar to his, so thats why anyone plugged into the enrichment centre goes crazy
i always forget that portal and half life are in the same universe. it's crazy to think that one day an army of aperture science turrets could go against the combine.
It's easy to see why she became dissatisfied by the Co-operative Testing because unlike real humans that fear death, the robots just willingly jump into acid at random, portal each other into pits, crush each other with platforms and otherwise goof off and bully each other. ((Admit it, we all spited our partners when playing Portal 2 for the hell of it.))

Chell is also theorized to be caroline's daughter and is also another reason why GLaDOS was nice to chell after hearing the recordings also 1 last employee survived the 2nd nuero toxin attack and moved chell up to the top of the list for test subjects and the journey begins
why are there only like 10 comments, this is a great explanation
Remember when the blue core from the first portal game that give out ingredients like "fish shaped soild waste", etc. That not real ingredients for the cake, so that "intelligence" sphere/core Chell destroyed but some how survived and became Wheatley... why you may ask? cause after GLaDOS got turned into a Potato and became PotatOS she said this to him "I know you.... the engineers tried to slow me down and make me behave... they once attached an intelligence core onto me it filled me with terrible ideas like a tumor.. it was your voice.. you were the tumor"
But hey it's just a theory.. a game theory
Thats why we need Portal 3 or 4 to continue the story
Yeah but there’s no more story, Chell either dies to the wild head crabs or the combine and GLaDOS just does what she did before chell

What do y’all think about the end of Portal 2 in relation to Half-life.
These are details about the outside world according to GLaDOS
Portal:
Are you trying to escape? Things have changed since the last time you left the building. What's going on out there will make you wish you were back in here.
I have an infinite capacity for knowledge, and even I'm not sure what's going on outside.
All I know is I'm the only thing standing between us and
them. Well, I was.
Portal 2:
Fifty thousand years is a lot of time to think. About me.
3:40 "Bring your cat to work day"
the curiosity core dampened her curiosity of learning more about Chell trough the cameras in every chamber as stated in this line during the final battle after destroying the curiosity core: "I let you survive this long cause I was curious about your behavior but you destroyed that part of me"
Damn, I love fable and I love portal! And I LOVE to learn about their nuances
my brain hurts after watching this
Edit: the fact that he said caroline made GLaDOS nicer and when GLaDOS deleted caroline her voice got louder and very unhuman.
By the way im GLaD Portal 2 is still relevant
what if chel is caroline's daughter? that would probably explain GLaDOS being slightly nicer to chel than she was to other subjects.
somewhere in portal 2, glados says that in the list of test subjects there was a man and a woman with chells last name. and chells full name is chell johnson. then theres cave johnson but idk who the mother is. tbh it probably is caroline because she was closest to cave.
edit: its around the end of chapter 3.
It scares me."
I could go on for entire paragraphs but I got school in the morning and I don't want to be too late.
@tr3v0r I mean GlaDOS mocks Chell for being adopted so she could be Caroline’s biological daughter and Cave Johnson just forced someone to adopt her, like Rattman
Great work on the lore vids! Keep it up!
More to come!
It's implied that she was forced into it.
@@Skyrionn not implied, * directly stated *.

So happy to see vids still being made on portal!!
I'm glad you could find the channel! I post Portal/ Half-Life lore every other Friday :)
This was lovely. Thanks for making this.
Glad you enjoyed it! Thank you for watching it!
the problem, is that its likely not been very long since portal 1 for two main reasons, one being that Chells body hasn't deteriorated by much in the so called 5000 - 500,000 years, which defies even cryrostasis. and that the storage device that GLaDOs is stored on, likely to be an SSD memory card, due to its impact resistance and general strength, only lasts a maximum of ten years without power.

“And then Glados developed PTSD when she see’s a bird”
You forgot the part where a rebellious punk, and old man in a gray robe, and Batman break into the facility and steal a cake.
Where did the "fifty thousand years" number come from? I've heard that timeline has been contested.
Eigenmishi in 3D it came from how long chell was asleep In portal 2
It is contested. Some say it isn’t. I personally believe it’s around 50~
@@nyarlathotep4889 i thought it was sooner, because when she escapes she’s in a wheat field, which means the combine have probably been kicked out of earth, since someone has planted all the wheat crop near aperture and let it grown. and portal one takes place just after the invasion (2003~) which means she would’ve been asleep for like 20
Thank you for the lore
Thanks for watching!
I didn't know she got through all those newly discovered test subjects.
I really thought they were a loose end that might even help repopulate Earth depending on whats happened in the meantime on the surface.
Poor Caroline.
She was forced to take over the company and was later killed as her consciousness was uploaded into the mainframe of GLaDOS.
You forgot to mention ‘The Good Turret,” therefore, breaking my heart.
GLaDOS isn’t really evil, she just wants to test without restriction
I’m still trying to get to the bird part of co op but I cant find it
it's the ending
4:02 Were do you base this race versus Black mesa on? It's quite clear that when Cave Johnson was alive they already had a portal gun, so that was invented before GLADoS was even around and the thing was that Black mesa stole inventions from aperture science, they didn't just make the same stuff.
0:18 Michigan? Finally a game that talks about a two punsliaed state
I liked most of the video, but you forgot to mention Doug Rattman and the fact that Caroline was unwilling to become GLaDOS.
You should do the lore behind Chell
GlaDOS didn't deleted Caroline she just wanted to let it lock like she did because she didn't wanted that Chell thinks she became soft.
Ps: There are facts that prove it.
You mean how how she murdered thousands of humans in less than a week? She only let Chel go because she literally couldn't kill her. Her humanity made her save Chel after that she deleted it and let Chel leave.
Source: trust me bro
I don’t believe she even deleted Caroline they just kinda learned to co exist
some of this was actually disproved in Aperture Dek Job
Is there a lore behind wheatley? If not can u make one

he said at the end hello resistance members im with the combine all the way buddy
Now in the new stream desk thing it shows that cave Johnson is in a statue
Glados reliving her death for 50,000 years = GER
There's no way Portal 2 takes place after 50,000 years. Ratman is still heard chattering in his dens, and it's unlikely the facility could have kept chell alive for that long without actually turning her brain in bad burger meat.
Hi it’s Wheatley
Hello Wheatley!
Great video! But there's still one thing I need to know: HOW DID GLaDOS CHANGE HER "FACE PLATE" BETWEEN GAMES?????
She literally controls an entire science facility including the manufacturing parts of it, she basically just has to make a new face plate where the turrets etc are produced and done.
I mean, she literally rebuilds the whole broken down facility single handedly, making a face plate is a minor struggle at best.
@@OctoNico well yes but she was deactivated the whole time and when you encounter her the first time she already has the new look
Plus the room that she is in looks different
And how else would glados get back into the facility plus glados doesn't have the same look or fearures making people think that portal 1 Glados is a prototype and portal 2 Glados to be a newer model that just was deteriated over time during the 50,000 years of Chell being asleep
@@haydenshumate555 yeah exactly
Where does the last part after the ending of P2 come from? Coop?
