The end of an era for Detroit.
They overtweaked their roster after this.
Since they blew that 10-point 4th quarter lead with game 7 in sight, nothing has gone right for a team that once seemed as consistent as any in the East, if not the league.
I always say everything went downhill after the Game 5 loss to the Spurs in the 2005 NBA Finals
Edward Richardson Larry Brown leavining was the beginning of the end.. Sure we wom a lot of games from 2005-2006 to the 2007-08 season but our team defense suffered as we reached the conference finals each o thoe years.. And Lebron was too good by that point

Man this Pistons team had a chance to go to 4 straight finals after 2004. they just could never close out a lot of games but in 2008 they just got outplayed by this hungry Boston team.
They shouldn't have lost to the cavs in 07

They let Ben Wallace go which was a huge mistake defensively in the following years. That trade for Iverson would've worked, if done years back, you got Michael Curry coaching them for the 2009 season, even the players don't know their own identity

Great upload. This was the end of an era for my favorite detroit pistons team. You could tell as the game went on that they just ran out of gas and were probably never going to win the "ship" again. That Posey steal though was the sign though. And dam did I love Chauncey Billups. Truly my all time favorite player.

ALSO PIERCE WAS SO SLOW BUT I NEVER SEEN ANYTHING LIKE HIM HIS SPINS SKILLS TRICKY CLEVER, HE CAN FIND BASKET IN ANY SITUATION. I DONT KNOW HOW SLOWEST PLAYER EVER IS SO GIFTED. U CAN SEE IN EVERY POSSESSION ON SPIN OR POST THE DEFENDER HAD NO CHANCE THEY ONLY CAN GUARD IF BIG WAITS HIM INSIDE LITERALLY ANY OTHER DEFENDER BOUNCE AROUND HIM. KOBE USED TO SAY HIM AND MELO ARE LIKE RHINOS BECAUSE THEIR BODY IS DIFFERENT UNLIKE OTHER SCORERS.

The Shaq-Kobe Lakers arguably were never the same after Horry's missed 3 in the '03 West semis. Posey's steal was the final nail in the coffin for these Pistons.

Fun fact:
The Pistons made the playoffs 3 times in 16 years after this series and were swept at the first round every time. They haven't won a single game at the playoffs for fucking 16 years.
Around this time, it was a painful decline for both the Pistons and the Red Wings (yes I know the Red Wings won the 2008 finals but after the 2009 loss that was it).
I feel like the Pistons could’ve been elite for another couple years had they either not have: traded Billups or just stayed healthy. The Wings if they stayed healthy could’ve been great for 3 more years
Right around 08 I wished they didn't screw up that 03 draft. They could've had Melo or Wade both great players and likely more championships.
@@Jay-n262 If the Pistons drafted one of those guys, 04-08 would be the same except they would win it in 05 too. They would run it back in 2011 and 2012 with 2 more titles before the team would slowly decline. They could’ve easily been good for like 10 years instead of 5 and they would have 2 back to backs out of the last 8 years

The fact that this was the last good season for the pistons sucks. They made 6 straight east finals and 2 nba finals. They just ran into the wrong teams at the worst time.

Trading Billups for the extremely overrated Iverson didn't help either. AI ruined the pistons franchise. They haven't been the same since.

This series proved the Pistons were a fluke championship team. All those ECF appearances and barely won 1 championship against a injured Lakers team with Kobe shooting them out the series
If anything this proved the very opposite. Are you nuts? A team that went to 6 straight ecf's and 2 finals in that time. Also they had no business even taking this Celtics near 7 games considering the talent difference. That's no fluke.
