I have never heard of Tofino, but I am not a Canadian and haven't heard of many places in Canada. In the US when I was in school they taught
you very little about Canada. What I find fascinating that many of the charms of small city Canada have the same charm as small New England do. Thanks for sharing!

Coombs use to be even more weird and wonderful. The shops are similar but they use to have a kids hay rides, the mini golf, and other quirky things (as in the 90s era) they have kind of focused in on the goats on the roof and did away with the potential liability parts.

When you go to Pacific Rim park the village of Tofino is not in the park but the road to it goes through the park. Anywhere OUTSIDE of the park, you can "park" a vehicle for free. Inside the National Park, you must get a visitors pass and pay for parking if you want to visit it. Go to Ucluelet and park free on Willowbrae Road are walk into Halfmoon Bay (or go to Wrech Beach). You will almost always get a much less crowded west coast experience and still be in Pacific Rim Park. Definitely walk the Wild Pacific Trail in Ucluelet one of the best trails on Van Isle, a place with some of the best trails in the world. Yes, it is THAT good.

I’ve made a whole video on Ucluelet.
Ucluelet is a destination, NOT a stop on the way to Tofino 😉

and the bears eat the pumpkins

Best time to see bears is early spring. After hibernation they are HUNGRY and just stuff themselves with the grass on the side of the highway (the forest canopy is so thick that grass will not grow on the forest floor). They literally ignore cars and just eat and eat. In the fall, with Salmon, there are areas of river away from roads that bears go to.

@@barbaracarter6726 That is like my best fishing day. ONCE we left the beach and were back in 32 minutes, with sixteen Coho on board. Could barely get trolling before WHAM.. The worst would be all morning without even a strike. But hey, messing about in a boat is pretty hard to be called a worse time.

@@barbaracarter6726 Hey, my home town. How old am I? Some of my classmates talked about their parents buying lots on Sproat Lake for Tax arrears, Sterling arm to boot. But then most of the waterfront parks in Qualicum was land the town took back from tax arrears too. People did not like living in the cool winter wind there. Believe it or not! (hint: believe it)
