Two omissions from the vid that need to be mentioned: Dead Kennedys (guitarist East Bay Ray's leads were quite surf influenced) & Agent Orange, So. Cal's first surf punk band.
If you add a synth and some prog you get ASTRO SURF . y'know for Silver Surfer. and if you mix Black Metal BACK into Surf you get Blackened Surf Metal, y'know for when the ocean is fire and/or blood! Fusion is fun!
I remember how the whole "black metal classics turned into surf rock songs" thingy on UA-cam was a big hit and suddenly trve kvlt black metal fans were arguing that black metal is actually far more complex and these "surf rock versions" were both fake surf rock and that real surf rock could never reach the creative heights of their favorite black metal acts anyway.
@@zhiracs On the upside, this video made do the research and found out who actually did those surf rock re-imaginings. Check out @riboflavinmusic and others for more surf rock covers of black metal.
@@ferretyluv It was on some forums/boards dedicated to black metal. Some folks there thought it was cool, but a handful of more "high minded" black metal fans started complaining that the creators were "cheating" by not making "real" surf rock and "real" black metal with "artistic integrity" was more complex.
Please, keep making more 'How to make' videos. Andri is one of the funniest youtube guys and the rest of the crew is great as well. Great thanks from Brazil, love you guys!
I like that you started with the joke: "What do you get if you unplug Heavy Metal from their Distortion pedals? SURF ROCK!"🏄 There is also a small scene for a subgenre called "Horror Surf " that was creeping up here and there back in 1990s and early 2000s. But check that out. You do want a Reverb pedal that "Drips." The least expensive one that approaches this would be an EXH Oceans 11 (I haven't tried the Oceans 3 but that may work too) but the one pedal I bought that ABSOLUTELY does the Surf Drip is the Source Audio True Spring pedal but that is not an inexpensive pedal. Worth every penny though. I call it "Dick Dale in a Box." Have fun amigos!
I released my Schrott Collab on Halloween in which I've written and played a Surf Rock song. And then you guys drop this tutorial. The coincidence is crazy. Still an awesome tutorial🎸🏄♂️👍 greetings from Lotasticland
There's more than six words in the lyrics. It's too Beach Boys. Hey no complaining - you made the rules, Sunshine! (Seriously though - you've made a surf rock track indistinguishable from - if not better than - the real thing. The world needs more Norwegian Surf !)
Got randomly recommended this video. Found it educational, informative, and lightly humorous. Was about to click off but caught myself laughing at "sea end". IDK why, but that really got me.
I like the part where the guy was like, weew wee weew weew on the guitar and the other guy was all like, flibbidy flabbity chonk chonk chonk on the other guitar. And then the other guy had a Ghost shirt. That was my best part.
I mean I would try to surf norway, but thats also because I surf lake michigan sometimes. But I am probably gonna need a wetsuit that can withstand the cold.
The Atlantic coast of Norway isn't that cold. Coming from Sweden I'm always surprised to see that while a large part of the Baltic sea is frozen in winter it's always ice free in Norway. ( At the coast where people live up in the mountains is another story... ) Bergen in Norway is a few degrees warmer than Chicago in January according to Wikipedia. Anyways, I bet you need a wet suit all year around in the Atlantic, but that's just me maybe, I'm always freezing.
So blackened surf music is now a thing. Hail dude!! 🤙 Now while you were slagging on the Beach Boys for having lyrics and songs and actually pushing beyond the genre, 😛 you forgot about Jan & Dean, who also played surf music and had lyrics. I think people probably just assume their hit songs are the Beach Boys though. It doesn't help that Jan & Dean's biggest hit "Surf City" actually has Brian Wilson on backup vocals.
Wasn't the only "Scandinavian only" word just faen? Which others did I miss? Norwegian pretty much just sounds like childish old school Swedish. Therefore as a Swede it can sometimes be hard to take evil Norwegian bands that sing in their native language seriously...
The black metal twist is appreciated
Haters will say that Andri and Martin's insane rips on those boards were greenscreened.
Ohh, so they weren’t actually surfing in space? 😢
My favorite surf rock band is The Mayhems from Norway, California.
It true that ''Surfin' Moon'' hit hard
But I prefer ''I Am The Surf Wizards'' by The Emperor

Oh yes! A few videos about styles fusion, get funny like you do normaly. 😄
What happens if you add groove metal to surf rock?
I remember how the whole "black metal classics turned into surf rock songs" thingy on UA-cam was a big hit and suddenly trve kvlt black metal fans were arguing that black metal is actually far more complex and these "surf rock versions" were both fake surf rock and that real surf rock could never reach the creative heights of their favorite black metal acts anyway.
Par for the course when it comes to black metal fans
@@zhiracs On the upside, this video made do the research and found out who actually did those surf rock re-imaginings. Check out @riboflavinmusic and others for more surf rock covers of black metal.
I don’t remember that at all. I remember the metalheads thinking it’s hilarious.
@@ferretyluv It was on some forums/boards dedicated to black metal. Very accurate. Will now continue to write the same song 36 times for 4 albums, see you later suckers
Step 1: Write black metal
Step 2: Turn off your distortion pedal.
Please, keep making more 'How to make' videos.
Andri is one of the funniest youtube guys and the rest of the crew is great as well.
Great thanks from Brazil, love you guys!
I am loving all the Black Metal references.
1)Record Black Metal
2)Remove Distortion

One of my favorite bands is The Shivas, they make 60s garage surf and psychedelic rock and it’s great.
I guess most of their music does have lyrics, but if you wanna hear some without listen to Whiteout or Cold Blooded

This video is how I realise that the Better Call Saul intro theme is Surf Rock, oh my God.
5:55 - nice megalovania reference
Oh yeah, Black metal without distortion
This is perfectly timed for me, I'm trying to start a Hardcore Surf Horrorpunk band (no im not joking ), i love your channel 😂
There is none other than Ricky King, the German god of surf.
It's crazy how much black metal and surf rock has in common (musically)
I already saw the song today on Spotify+ it’s one of your best Halloween videos
FAEN! Best part of the lyrics
I must recommend surf bands "Fifty Foot Combo", "The Exotics", and "Los Straitjackets".
I like the part where the guy was like, weew wee weew weew on the guitar and the other guy was all like, flibbidy flabbity chonk chonk chonk on the other guitar. And then the other guy had a Ghost shirt. That was my best part.
There is a surf school on the Lofoten, you should try it out :)
Today I learned that Martin can punch waves.

Daikaiju not mentioned. Sad =(
For once, my knowledge of Swedish allows me to understand Norwegian lyrics, since the words are more or less the same XD
Wasn't the only "Scandinavian only" word just faen?
Which others did I miss?
Norwegian pretty much just sounds like childish old school Swedish.
Therefore as a Swede it can sometimes be hard to take evil Norwegian bands that sing in their native language seriously...

@@Pagefire
Jazzmasters look like custom shop surfboards, so it makes a lot of sense, really!

Surf Black Metal ha-ha-ha-ha
Trve svrf!
"Do you like misirlou?"

Too many different words in the lyrics. Shame on you for making a pop song!
The real Beach Boys are when they did a lot of drugs in the late 60s/early 70s and did spoken word pieces about pollution.
Svrf Satanica should be a thing
