The Drawbacks of HDTV (The News Tonight, KYW 3) [November 27, 1992]

I discovered this gem on a VHS tape my family recorded in 1992... a piece about HDTV aired by KYW 3 in Philadelphia on The News Tonight! They spotlight all of the problems that transitioning to high definition TV will bring to local television stations and interview people who aren't impressed by the technology! It's a pretty interesting look at HDTV long before most of us ever saw it with our own eyes!

I remember the first time I saw the football in HD. Those interviews are hilarious, one wonders what they were shown and how they were manipulated because it was obvious to me even back in the mid 90s that HD was going to reduce in price as it became the only way. Gotta love propaganda pieces

They really said people would have to upgrade their VCR & camcorders, LOL
I guess the "tech guy" the news channel looked to for "vision" had no vision. Tehehe !
I was 25 in 1993 and I could Clearly see that HD technology would eventually drop in cost, & that VCR's & camcorders were soon to be obsolete, far before 2000.
I wonder if their "tech guy" is watching old episodes of Gilligan's Island 🏝 on his brand new 2022 VCR, and filming home movies with his kids on his 2022 camcorder 😆 🤣 😂

Although, HDTV wasn't existed until HDTV debuts in 1998.

Wrong. HDTVs do exist before 1998. Especially in Japan, they have HDTV channels in 90’s. Way ahead of USA.
