    It's great to see a UA-cam channel dedicated to reviewing devices like EMOTIV, especially from a neurologist's perspective. I'm considering getting an EMOTIV myself and appreciate your efforts in reviewing these products. Keep up the good work!

    The SDK being open source really piqued my interest in the device, and they mentioned recently in their discord they intend to open source the OS itself. W Neurocity.

      yep, and it’s thankfully not going down the “cyborg neuralink metaverse slave” timeline.
      i was debating for a while if that’s truly the path we should go down, but then i realized once someone has complete control over your mind (remotely) via brain chip, you are a complete (indirect) slave so thankfully because we are waking up to this we are going down the self empowerment over cyborg slave timeline

    • @electricfox6598
      @electricfox6598 3 місяці тому

      @callmesasma Neuralink will not be used to control us lol, it is to bridge the gap between human and Ai so we don't become completely useless when Ai can do everything better than a human. It will increase our speed of communication with Ai so they don't feel like they're talking to a tree. It can also cure any neurological issue and even improve us. If you want to have the clearest data, you need a direct connection to the brain otherwise it's like trying to listen to a conversation through a wall. Non-invasive brain interfaces still have their uses though and will improve greatly with time.

    Hi. I have a disability called Spinal Muscular Atrophy. Similar to ALS. Over the years, I've lost movement in my hands and arms. I'm typing this using eye gaze technology. I used to love playing video games, but can no longer do that, due to not being able to use the controller anymore. I also enjoy making art, writing and recording music. These things have become very difficult to do with the eye gaze technology. Art is difficult to make smaller adjustments and details. Music is difficult to type with my eyes, trying to focus on where I'm looking and the time it takes to type, while keeping my train of thought and focusing on the lyrics and story I'm trying to tell. It's also difficult to do the mixing and editing with my eyes, as well as beat making. I was just wondering if this device could potentially assist me with any of these things and, possibly, help me play video games again? Or do you know of anything that might? Thanks!

    • @635574
      @635574 3 місяці тому +2

      I don't see you mentioning that you can't speak, there are many ways to just have text to speech which is strictly better than eye typing. I'm no wireless interface expert but neuralink implants will be able to save people with motoric disabilities soon, they have the 2nd trial patient and the first one is breaking all sorts of records. The problem is we have no way to know when it will be publically available or where.

    • @kinglui3422
      @kinglui3422 3 місяці тому

      @@635574 I can speak, but when I've tried that in the past, there was often a lot of errors. I'm also never really alone, so background noise and privacy can be an issue. However, it's been a long time since I've tried. I might need to try something again. Neuralink seems interesting, and I've been keeping an eye on that development. I think there are a lot of obstacles that it's going to have to overcome, aside from the functionality of the product itself. So, I'm not really expecting it to be available for a few years. I'm hopeful, but people are paranoid and think everything is a Hollywood movie. Especially with it being Elon, I expect some resistance. For someone like me though, it sounds like it could be a game changer.

      Hello! as a programmer myself, I can confidently say that it's not impossible to actually make useful things for your specific situation, but there is really big limitations and technicalities behind it, so I'm going to try to explain it to show you exactly what are the possibilities with this device. (Based on my understanding, maybe there is even more limitations)
      First, the main and biggest limitation of this product is that it can't really interpret the abstract idea behind a thought, neither the intention or objective of it, but it can detect certain patterns and thoughts which can be used as "hotkeys" (Similar to the ChatGPT thing of the video). So for example in the video, they are not really connecting to ChatGPT in a free way, they have a predefined single prompt that is triggered as a hotkey with that certain thought, so they don't really have freedom of access to the bot capabilities.
      It's possible to make really useful thought-triggers that can improve your life, I can guess you would not really care about the "focus" thing, or the music brain waves and all of that, the best use I see you can get out of this is to use it as an "input" controller for the computer, like training a certain thought to be identified and then the pc execute a certain function related to that command.
      Another limitation is that the thought process-trigger needs to be really really specific, and it probably only allows a few of them. (As we can see in the video there is predefined things like imagining the guy jumping, the pinch of the left hand, etc. ) maybe we can't make our own thought triggers, which would be a really big limitation, cause it would move the "countless buttons" to just 5 or 10.
      The overlapping between triggers and having to re-train them each day is probably another giveaway of the lack of accuracy.
      If we consider all of these limitations of the device, then we can totally discard controlling the mouse or doing fast-hotkeys triggers, so I would not say this work for gaming or art in the way you expect.
      I can give you some ideas I have in mind that can indeed give you a better access to your own environment:
      - Being able to turn the lights of your own room.
      - Let's say we program a function on the computer that is triggered with certain thought that will send a notification to a specific person, so that person will know you need assistance.
      - Control TV (Turn on/off, specific channels, volume).
      Ease of access to certain tasks on a computer, for example:
      - You can open a browser directly into google with a certain thought instead of having to use your eyes to manually do all the steps, so you have the search engine ready for your eye-gaze device.
      - Open specific predefined website/program
      - Close current window
      - Even complex tasks on the go, let's say with certain thought we program that the current active window is "linked" to another trigger, so when you want to go back to that window, you can trigger the other thought and you can choose a different window each time, so it's not completely predefined, but with more customization on-the-go. (I already did this for myself, but with keyboard of course, when I press SHIFT+F1 the current active window is "saved" and then when I press Numpad1 that window came to the top, so instead of alt-tabbing I can have certain programs linked to my numpad numbers, but on the go, I use this a lot for work haha) On your case we change the trigger (SHIFT+F1 and NUMPAD1) to Thought1 and Thought2, as an example.
      - If you consider the option of playing games that does not require mouse neither multiple keystrokes at the same time, then gaming is kinda possible. (And you will probably would need a custom program for each game)
      There is possible options, but they are all limited to programming and to the accuracy/speed of the device, also the more complex or abstract the task is, the more difficult or maybe even impossible to achieve.
      Also, all the things I'm describing, are on the programming end, so if your eye-gaze device is connected to a computer as input, then all of this should be possible as hotkeys with that device too, and maybe even faster, maybe you already have some setup similar to what I say, cause I am actually ignorant on this subject so I don't really know how many of these programs already exist.
      I would suggest to you that you wait until someone experiments much more on this, because at the current moment the device even if impressive and with a lot of possibilities, it is just an empty controller, you can consider it "just a bunch of buttons with no use", so until someone make those specific apps, programs or hotkeys that can help you and they actually test them (with the overlapping and how accurate they are), then there is no actual use.
      Neuralink is trying to achieve something really similar, but with more abstract interpretation and of course, much much better.

    What I want is a device that allows me to record any changes in my brain waves when I'm inside a room, or a cave, a church etc.

    I didn't realize Neurosity had such a robust development kit! I see a lot of potential for their next iteration.
    Kinesis training offers a list of predefined triggers which users can train. This suggests either a level of underlying pretraining for those triggers, a hardware limitation, or it's just a pointless limitation. If users can both name and train as many kinesis triggers as they want, and thus selected triggers can be more mentally related to the effect, it opens up a lot more appealing possibilities (aka, people don't want to think of biting a lemon in order to talk to ChatGPT, etc.).
    Similarly, I'd like to see some sort of continuous baseline training over time to reduce the impact of day-to-day baseline shifts. With enough time training, hopefully the problem would eliminate itself.
    Lastly, the cost is a large remaining factor. Personally, I'd love to create some open-source use-case implementation software around this, but with the current economy and the $1,200 price-tag, I'm more inclined to wait for the next iteration than to eat the cost for this version just to create some free software.

      Good feedback! Yeah, there should be a custom kinesis training option. I don't think there will be a next-generation device for a couple of years.

    Could you provide any data showing your Beta and Gamma spikes when you've been focusing for 30-50 minutes? I have this device, but it seems to always indicate I'm in a sleep state. I'm wondering if this means the device is unreliable or if there’s an issue with my brain activity. I also noticed that the F5 and F6 sensors sometimes hover over my scalp rather than staying attached.
    Unfortunately, Neurosity lacks comprehensive reviews, and most UA-cam videos are snippets taken out of context. These reviews encourage people to buy the device but include little to no actual testing-just pieces of video that don’t really tell us much. All we know is the reviewer’s opinion that it’s “great.”
    I would like to see a reliable test of this device; right now, it feels misleading.

    Great. now the phone starts reading our mind as well... I have no doubt that this works and the tech will only get better, but it's unreal how much info on ourselves we give away. You can bet that eventually (if not already) these devices will also be picking up things we are not aware of for advertising or monitoring purposes. We let them, no we actually we pay a premium amount of dollars, to allow them to bug our homes, phones and now brains.

    Just had an idea, instead of just syncing a big command to pinching fingers, code small commands that can add up to a big command. Kinda like sign language but since it’s not that fine at reading, it could take multiple like linking them to make a word and then execute like t9 texting but through movements.

    You really only have to controll 4 axis, which is just sliding those 4 values up and down but small amounts, that is a great test for controls resolution and responsivness compared to thinking about pushing a single button to shoot or walk Halo style. Ofc it would bring the system to its limits but that is the poi t right? :D
