Im not native to the area, but the correct pronunciation (traditionally before it became "Americanized") is Kah-poo-skeh-sing. The Sk is pronounced "sh". Indigneous peoples didn't pronounce it as "Kapis-Casing"
Thanks - we are planning a NY-Vancouver drive, going north of the Great Lakes, starting mid-Aug 2018. First stop is Montreal, second stop seems to be Val D'or, third would be Kapuskasing. This video encourages us to stay a couple of nights in Kapuskasing. (Third stop may be Nipigon, avoiding Thunder Bay; fourth Kenora and so on. We pleasantly drove from International Falls, Kenora, Winnipeg - Vancouver in May&June 2023).
