That appears to be the only Peugeot 308 that someone has taken care of throughout its life
You no it I all ways have nitemare with them 😂😂😂
My 83 yrs old father owns a 2007 Peugeot 307 and he cares his car. Drives perfectly after 17 years.
@@flippingcarsrepairsoil issue by any chance ? Plus the electrical issues ?
😆😆😆
French cars are pretty solid. (Maybe better than a 10 year old Polo.)
A result! An old Peugeot turning you a profit, who’d have thought it 😮
😂😂😂
Makes a change the amount of duff motors he's bought lately. 😊
@@paulyh4531it is very cheap at £250. I sold a Ford focus style 2008 non runner for £721 had just failed the mot and needed £1300 spent on it.
The poppy is still there! 😂
I'm glad he kept it!
As is the dash air freshener! 😂
So is the old steering wheel
Once you can fit a set of plates you are technically a master tech 😂
😂😂😂
He will be changing engines next😂
That 4 yr course you took on how to replace number plates has come into its own . Well done.👍
I've just purchased an after market headlight for a RAV4 .for 250 pounds. And you're getting a whole car..
Joys of part xs
those 2 cross climates on the front probably cost more than £250
You recently mentioned that some brands dont deserve their reputation for being robust (Volvo). Peugeots go the other way; ive has a couple and they've been really strong cars
New Volvos, I assume? His opinion when he did the road trip in a V70 seemed quite the contrary.
The pre-SPA (~2015) and especially pre-P3 (~2007) Volvos with actual Volvo engines get sold with 250K+ miles on them because the owner kicked the bucket before the car did around here. I think they definitely /earned/ their reputation for being robust, they just perhaps don't deserve to continue waving that banner in the current decade.
@@VanillaLibrarian Yes he was talking about newer Volvos living off the reputation of the older ones.
This generation 308 is actually pretty good. Most annoying thing is the slightly offset steering wheel.
Just starting the vid. Playing High Peak Bingo - Headlamp buff. New plates to instantly lift. A £15 mini valet, 3 types of budget Chinese tyre, including a mismatched axle. And something unexpected in the boot.
I play along with a quiz of my own: 10 points for two keys, 20 points for matching tyres, 30 points for functioning air con, and 100 bonus points if he wipes the dipstick on the engine cover.
One day he'll find a dead body in the boot and this will be end of the videos
Had one of those as my first car in 2017, my grandad bought it new in 2009 and only done 25k in 8 years. I ran in until late 2020 then sold it with 65k on the clock. Neither my grandad or I had a single issue.
why sell it then?
@deanskidmore4495 only had it for 3 years and only 65k at the end not surprised it didn't have any issues. Barely ran in.
“They’ve rebadged it you fool!” 😂😂😂
😂😂😂
This Peugeot looked really tidy when it was cleaned up.
Well done Matt, that’s another cheap runaround for someone saved from the scrap man❤.
Not just Michelins, but CrossClimates too!!
Amazing what you can find down the local part worn place 😉
Worth more then the car
Radio Station 97.4 is Hits Radio, also known as Rock FM. Used around Lancashire, Preston.
Great Neil Kinnock impression. "We're alright!" 😁
All Peugeot 308's slightly pull left, it is normal. The Peugeot dealers call it "wondering" and it has been designed that way. I have a 2009 Peugeot 308 1.6 vti petrol automatic with 92K on the clock. I love it and it drives like dream. It is Euro4 so I will keep it as much as it goes really. Their steering wheels get worn rather quickly though. I truly enjoyed this video.
Fi gers crossed it don't sweat burning oil 😮😮
It's not wondering it's wandering and it's to do with the camber of the road
1500 quid all day long. Very popular family car. Peugeot make great cars which are simple to drive. 206, 405, 306 and 308SW owner.
Always love the partridge references!
Despite the poor reviews that some people give Peugeot, I bought a nine year old 206 diesel in 2014 for our daughters to use when learning to drive. It had about 70,000 miles on it. We live in France, but I sourced a left hand drive French registered car from a dealer in the UK. It was quite a high spec with aircon, electric windows, cruise control, cd player and steering wheel controls; They were of a similar mind to you, in doing what needed to be done. Cambelt change, service, four new tyres, new exhaust, wiper blades and a couple of other things. I paid £1750 for it and both our daughters had a lot of use from it. I drove it back to the UK several times and it never missed a beat. I sold it five years later when both daughters had their own cars, getting just under £1400 for it. A great little car and I'd have another. I've also recommended the garage to numerous people. Treat people correctly, being honest as you do, pays dividends.
You said it all. Absolute banger of a car, excellent for young drivers, cheap and easy to maintain even by oneself and still has a relevant look today (but starting to show its age though)...definitely a hall of famer
I did chuckle when you found the 'old' pound coins.
I was a member of a gym for 4 years, paying a monthly subscription and always had a single £1 coin in my gym bag.
The second time I went, the 'old' £1 coin had been out of circulation for over 3 years. Yes. I am unfit and lazy.
The radio station is 97.4 rock fm. The best radio station, is on winter hill in the north west
Quite a few Peugeot’s lately, but where is the C6?
A VERY brave choice. I used to have one.
17:30 If you are quick, you can swap steering wheels with that 208 CC you are going to scrap.
Do you not learn with cheap peugeots
Just Never get a Peugeot
It was a success though
@@QuercusQuest Only one i would get is a 205 gti
Meanwhile in Africa. Peugeot, the only car made to survive the African continent bar Land cruiser.
@@da_great_mogul me too haha
I had an old 405, then a big 605. Both had engine problems and not great build quality. What i did like was the ride. They both had terrific suspension.
I dont know if its still true for new cars today but the older french ones had plush suspension, whereas the german ones were better built but rode too hard.
Thats a decent commuter for a year or two by the look.
Yay! A cam belt sticker!
Your videos were super helpful when i was looking for a good value used first car 👌🏼 showing exactly what to look for and where to spend
Which car did you end up buying? Asking cause I'm on the same boat!
@@rahulramanathan5737 i went for a fiat 500L privately. Matt hasn't bought any (on video) but if you have a model you're looking at definitely recomend looking to see if he has traded any
Great video Matt. Always love a tale with a happy ending. Not ditching the poppy was a good move methinks.
Hello Matt, great result, hope its sells quickly. Thank you for taking the time to upload another video. Ged.
You will only see the glow-plug light below zero on these cars. The 8v version of the 1.6 diesel is quite reliable and don't have the soot issues of the first generation 16v 1.6.
The one I’ve been waiting for all my life!!!😀
Keep them coming always enjoy your videos they the highlight of my bedtime routine 😂
I love these cheap videos and I'm just on the intro now hope there is profit!
Putting the car aside for a moment, how does Matt have time to keep his hair so immaculate - or is it a stylish wig?! Love this channel.
Winner winner chicken dinner, that was so satisfying seeing you come under budget AND a cambelt sticker too!
I’m a long time watcher and don’t think I’ve seen many if any of these vids where you don’t massively over spend, you definitely got lucky this time!
I'm surprised. I was expecting at that price for it to be condemned. Not bad going especially with long MOT
Great video HPA, great work Matt,I don't mind a Peugeot, especially a diesel, great engines👌👍😀
Those weeds at the back of the parked cars are coming back. Need to keep on top of them during spring or will lead to bigger issues in the summer.
Honeslty love these videos, best thing to watch at the moment
What about my channel 😂😂😂
That depolution system fault jab hurt, Matt. 😭😭😭 I've been ignoring that fault for years now 😭
If it still passes MOT I wouldn't really care. These cars are really cheap nowadays and I wouldn't see any reason to sort everything out 100% if its still doing the job well.
I’d say £1995. It looks neat, tidy and it hasn’t been abused all its life
Dream on nearly 2 grand for a near enough 160,000 for a diesel 308 it would still be for sale this time next year.
@@jeremywentworth1833 yeah I agree 2 grand is steep. I mean 1495 is on the higher end of pricing with those miles and it's 15 years old, but honestly for that kind of money it's well presented so pushes up the value I guess, might do someone for another 2-3y if they look after it.
@@stuontwo677if it last another 3 years £2k is a reasonable price. Don't see why it wouldn't make it too 200k
Great result matt 👏 a good little runner for someone 👍
A fresh set of reg plates is a sure way of knowing you have a liking to the car. ❤
Hi Matt well done under spent . Yes a good little run around.
Love how you left the car deodoriser on the dashboard! Easy flip this one - I like the style of these !
The 308CC steering wheel is a straight fit on a 308 hatch 👍🏼
I HAVEN’T massively overspent! Could be your new catchphrase. Great video.❤
I really enjoy seeing videos and cars like this, just shows there are still some good affordable cars to be had!
More relatable too that's why I don't do flash cars
Someone has actually looked after their car got once. Shows that French cars aren't awful if looked after
errr well as a former Citroen owner x 2....gulp
I drive a Citroen Grand C4 now, and wife drives a Peugeot 208. Build quality is questionable with the interior and the cup holders are a joke... But we look after them and mechanically they're sound.
@@MatthewJBD generaly rust free too, try looking under a 5 year old japanese car....
@@amigachris yeah absolutely... I guess they're made for a similar climate and roads
Well done Matt, happy days!
Love the fact you never removed the poppy ❤️🇬🇧❤️
I had to leave that there
Worth every penny cheap and cheerful
Result Matt £3 in cash in car a cambelt sticker air con that works nice you left the poppy on it
I thought this would be another one for your scrapper but life's full of surprises! Sounds like a good result.
Glad you got a win Matt. You deserve a much needed winner. We all had the same views before clicking. Good stuff!
Yes well done Matt, car looks smart now defo good profit
Mitchelin tyres a good sign.Well done for keeping the poppy
the subscriber rate is going up like crazy great content
Not a bad looking car at all. Peugeots are a bit quirky but they do make decent engines.
Good to see some decent tyres and from a brand we have all heard of! Apart from the brand spanking new tyre on the spare!!
Nice one Matt
Good video Matt 🚘🚙🚗👍👍👍👏👏👏
A nice result that will do someone for at least another 2 years if looked after properly, nice one Matt. 👍🏻
I have a friend which used to have one of these he got for free from his grandma which can't drive anymore. It had (which is still in his family, passed down to his sister) 1.6 petrol engine with 120HP and I was surprised how good that car was driving. The only thing it had wrong was the AC stopped blowing cold air but a quick refill and everything was well. Another thing is the roof padding was really soggy so it looked like a tent on the inside and there was always a low engine oil level on startup (which he checked manually and it was always full) but other than that it was a great car. The one thing that I truly loved about the car is the amount of room you have in the backseats, something you usually don't see in a hatchback even if its fairly big for one.
97.4 used to be Hallam FM when I stupidly listened to the mainstream media!!
The Frenchie proved to be saveable and profitable!
Great video and work as always Matt! :D
The UK seems to be the only country to slate French cars. Most of Europe as far as I can see buy them as 4 wheels to use as transport not coveted possessions. I have had Renault, Peugeot and Citroen never had electrical problems at all. Had an axle failure on an ancient 206 (same as any old torsion bar). All have been serviced by me and been great cars. Not one of these cars afflicted with rusting body or chassis unlike older cars. All my cars have been older gen but I would have no hesitation in buying that car here😊. Some of us are forced or prefer to run “crap” cars and this is an excellent car for some
Peugeot has good corrosion resistance. And pretty good mechanical durability with the diesels. I really dont like the styling though. The next 308 is a lot better looking and the version after that is better still. Handsome even. Great value at that price.
We used to have a 308 diesel just like this. I really liked it and would often drive it over our new I40 as it was so comfy and smooth. Also great on fuel really good little car.
Glad to see it worked out well 👍🏼. Low fuel makes me nervous with the 1.6 Hdi or TDCi in Ford’s, not an engine you want to run out of diesel as you can’t just put more in and restart it. Did a fuel filter on a focus once and it wouldn’t restart, had to force fuel into the filter to ensure it didn’t suck air. Don’t want to do one again 🫣. I’m sure someone with more mechanical knowledge can explain it better. I think there’s no pump in the tank and it uses a Vaccum to get the fuel from the tank instead.
A properly bargain. Not sure why there’s a mini coat hanger dangling from the drivers window though 🤣
I loved this car. 2008-2018. Excellent car!
I'd definitely have this myself. Really not a bad car. Yes, not the most handsome, but to get you about, you can't go wrong. Be nice and cheap to run, too.
Positivity about Peugeots. Pushing the boundaries, Matt.
Congrats on your minimal spend. I wish you a speedy sale.
£1495, agree Matt, you’ve done well with that one for a change.
I actually find myself looking forward to these videos and the now familiar "well we are here!" intro 😂
What a result! Not often you can say you've under spent and have a healthy potential profit. I'm a little disappointed that for £250 it didn't sound like a washing machine full of rolling pins but we can't have everything can we 😂
'rebadged it, you fool' is your sneakiest Partridge quote yet!
my first car was a wee peugeot 308 4 door , i loved it very reliable got me to the building sites and back 5 days a week for a few year , then had a mazda mx6 again a lovely car then a new merc then a shyte bmw since then 7 jags
Glad you left the poppy on!
Good luck Matt 🤓
A great result... Those older French diesel engines (pre DPF/EGR etc) are long lasting and pull okay...
great video
Partridge reference in the 1st 30 seconds, back of the net
You left the poppy on :)
No need to replace steering wheel just advertise it as sport alcantara
Perfect, a result!
I remember my mums old car and it was the 1.4 petrol, the first car I drove for a while after passing my test. With more than one person in the car, it struggled to get up motorway slip roads uphill hahaha
Another good vid,, do you do a car vertical check before you purchase the car aswell ? Just wondering as everytime you do one on your videos they always come up clean?
You had the steering wheel from de 207 cc, that was good!
Could also upgrade to add cruise control and speed limiter on that as well. the 308cc steering wheel would have worked.
A young lady bought my parents' peugeot 107 for that sum many years ago. Her mechanic boyfriend viewed it with her and checked over the old, full service history but low mileage car and she bought it on the spot.
SO SUREAL TO SEE A CAR I SAW EVERY DAY FOR THE PAST 4 YEARS EVERYDAY ON THE CHANNEL I DID WONDER WHY I HADNT SEEN IT IN ABOUT A MONTH OR SO
People crap on Peugeots a lot but I have driven them most of my life and have always gone back to them after trying other marques, experienced very few issues.
They are sturdier than most cars the ride is comfortable and the kit inside is generous and the seats are good. But if you have issues with a Peugeot it can get expensive and most of the electrical items are poor quality switches etc.
My 18 years old C4 coupe's automatic climate is ICE COLD my friend😂👌💪
From the back the 307 looks better indeed. (Also station.)
My first thought was....disaster. Must say I am genuinely shocked that it was looked after by previous owners. Normally at that age, they are neglected and only fit for scrap. Your lucky day Matt.
Tbf, I was expecting that to be a lot worse. For £250, that is actually a steal.
I bought a 2008. Peugeot 308 1.6 HDi in 2018 after my Vectra went to car heaven, it was very reliable, was cheap to run and was cheap on parts, all round it was a excellent purchase, I did over 50,000 miles in it within 2 years, the Electrics gave up on it, I scrapped it as the wiring loom was starting to melt,
