Without going into my background a lot Ill just say I've done stuff & have had a lot of training over the years. I also am an avid backpacker & enjoy long distance hiking/survival. I watch these videos more for entertainment than content but have picked up a few cool ideas along they way doing so. With that said, I don't usually comment but always find peoples bags to lack in areas while also being extremely over stuffed in others. People love to "what if" themselves into insanity while rarely taking into consideration the weight of pack & physical fitness required to complete the task. You have built a great bag although I may be biased to it as it is almost identical to mine. This is by far the most realistic/prepared set up I've seen on YT. I often get people asking me what they should put in such a bag & I will now send them your way for the answer to that question as I have no desire at this time to create such a video. Keep it up & thank you. PS: You're spot on in regards to the sawyer squeeze. No matter how light I'm trying to go the few ounces more for the squeeze over the mini is always worth it. Cheers

Really well thought out minimalist kit. The best part is that you field tested it! On water filtration, after being a user of both the Sawyer mini and Sawyer Squeeze, I have switched to the Katadyn Be Free (no back flushing is needed to clean it, similar flow rate to the Squeeze). I pair it with a collapsible TPU 2L reservoir. Depending on environment, needs, and usage my other go to is the Grayl Geopress.

Would love to see a video on a shorter walk "get home" video where you don't need overnight equipment. I'm thinking about starting a channel just to do this myself. Living in St. Louis, I would have to choose my route very carefully because I may get shot in the back by a drive-by while walking through many areas. Not kidding.
Don't worry I believe ya on St Louis being dangerous lol...I would think the major differences would be swapping out the majority of the food for a lightweight chest rig, an AR and soft body armor would be a good start :D
@@TheSurvivalOutpost Right! Seriously though, let me tell you... There are huge portions of StLouis that you would need body armor to even consider walking through. Especially right now with the tensions. Try walking 10 or 15 miles with body armor under a big shirt to hide it! That would be a ball breaker!
Great initiative on doing the training and recon of your area! That is a great setup for getting home anyone would be lucky to have. Layering a few folded Coffee Filters into your neck gator will improve your ability to prevent catching the airborne COVID-19 Virus. Also a pair of Low-visibility Shooting Eye Glasses will help you travel at night and protect your eyes from branches/particles. An Umbrella will help you blend in more, plus it has plenty of uses....you know it's going to rain when you have to use your get home bag!
Good point about those coffee filters. The neck gator by itself is basically worthless for protection according to the CDC, I'm using it more for concealing my face, as a towel and then a prestage water filter. I'm always wearing sunglasses but that doesn't work so well at night :) If I could find a small enough umbrella it might be a good addition, the poncho however is better IMO since it is multiuse.

Now we (other UA-camrs) will have to leave our desk and actually use the gear we are showing and recommending. I don't appreciate that because I kinda like sitting on my butt all day fantasizing about using my gear. Good gear choices, really streamlined. Lol gotta keep that bar up high :) Glad you liked the video, I appreciate your input because you get out there and train like me. I did include the sillcock key, BUT after a while of using outdoor water spigots , I found all I need is pliers so the multitool is perfect. @@greyscout01 Actually pepper spray is legal in all 50 states.....EVEN NYC....!! I believe bear spray is pepper spray.....but in NYC there is a " FLUID OZ. MAXIMUM " Of course there is.......we wouldn't want to hurt the Frickin' Criminals .....!!
This is the first BOB video where the reviewer actually used their gear. Even better he showed how you should plan and train. I've always had a BOB and a place to go. However I have never done a dry run of what it would be like. Honestly I don't know if I could. It's alot easier to fantasize about the apocalypse than practice for it and even harder to survive it.
Yeah it was a reality check for sure. Forced march pushing myself and it took 1500 kcals to go 15 miles. Do the math on that level of effort lol. Glad you liked the video.
Did they read my comment about YKK zippers on your last review?? XD This looks like a good pack. I do my weekly FL rucks during the hottest part of the day, too. Latest thing I've started doing is adding a couple pinches of salt to every liter of water and I stay MUCH better hydrated. I also keep Pedialyte everywhere I can. I've been hospitalized twice from overtraining in this heat. It can absolutely kill you in no time.
Maybe so lol....but yeah this is a good pack. My only maybe tiny grip would be the fact it is not hydro compatible but then again its really an EDC pack that I've stretched to use as a 2 or 3 day bag. Great point about the salt, you can take electrolytes to help with that like the Pedialyte or that brand I showed in my food supply, the SIS Energy Bars and stuff, that is perfect for keeping your salt levels right and all the correct balance of nutrients for endurance. Stay safe buddy, this heat is no joke, sip on that water and you'll be good to go! Science in Sport Go Hydro Electrolyte Tablets amzn.to/30cjiXV
I'm a country boy, and I'm traveling to the city, traveling over 1631 km to goto a medical appointment, I'm looking to do a Canadian urban truck bag, I'm not able to get pepper spray or have a concealable firearm, hell even a long gun is iffy, do you think this loadout might suit?
That's a long trip. This load is great for a basic urban survival kit, but considering the distance you are traveling and the location, I would pack extra in your vehicle if you get stranded for some reason. Consider adding some food, extra change of clothes, shoes etc to your vehicle.
Great video! Best one I've seen. Imo you are right at the ideal weight of 15 lbs. Lots of people overload their pack with stuff that isn't necessary. The only thing I would suggest is to avoid wearing camo, like the marpat boonie hat. It attracts attention in most urban and suburban areas. I would limit camo to the woods, off roads. A baseball cap would fit in.
When it goes down I just want to know will you be able to refill the water at the bathroom know the water is safe to drink still ? Due to potential downfall factors?
That's a great question. If the water supply had been tainted IE treatment plants not operational or sabotage, I wouldn't take the chance. Maybe it's possible to smell or taste if the water is no longer safe?
That's a great thing to think about! I'm fortnate to have well water myself, but know many don't have that option. There could be a day we can't trust our water supply. Something else to be prepared for or mindful of.
Enjoy your videos and take great inspiration .... just my advice from using chemical mace for some time....If you get OC or pepper „spray“ - only purchase an item with a solid „jet stream“.... stay away from the „mist“ as it is not usable in windy situations... the „jet“ can be aimed at some distance and won’t come back as you as easily ... take care& have fun
@iPac9mm Your right... At my elderly age, and with this lockdown...All i have is time..LOL. Can you imagine the time and energy it took , to film, and edit this amazing video by The S.O ?? that is Time Well SPent and Greatly Appreciated !! 😎👍🌟🌟🌟
Only thing i would change would be switch to cargo pants. So much more useful , and i keep the pepperspray in the right cargo, quick access for defense against dogs as well as humans.
It is hot here. I can barely stand to be outside but a few minutes. Even hunting down vermin, which I enjoy is miserable. Just carrying an air rifle feels so burdensome. I like your scouting videos. I always wish I knew more roads or what's behind something or what a particular building is for. I think scouting and observing the area provides an extra measure of security to keep us from walking into a bad situation. And you find resources and shelter you otherwise would not even be aware of.
The heat is ridiculous, makes life miserable lol. When I did that hike, it took me almost an hr to acclimate, I'm such a first worlder with my fancy A/C. The scouting and recon is probably the most fun out of the entire process, the feeling you get when you slide through the chainlink and then actually enter the building. Those structures in the video are well removed from urban areas so they were completely empty, no signs of human activity and those spots are the best. Any location remotely close to highways or gas stations is overrun with dope fiends.
The best smart watch for bugout is Garmin Fenix/Tactix or Garmin Instinct, on budget... Battery in my Garmin Tactix lasts for 30 days and I have offline maps
I agree with almost everything here .. u need to stay light no matter what .. simple and quick will be key a pistol will be great for almost anything.. with that being said I got 2 g17gen5 just in case lol ..great video and great gear.. only thing I don’t see here is a simple body armor set up I got plates run them slick nothing on it
Great video and test of you and your gear Blitz! Personally I would have a camelbak 3 liter bladder that I drink out of while moving, along with a container to boil. water.
I did miss my camelbak, the bag is not hydro compatible. It was honestly better that way because I was forced to stop and take water breaks. Considered the container for boiling water, but since my food doesn't require cooking and since I already had the CNOC bag and Sawyer for purification, I left it at home to drop weight.
Get home bag: trash bag, zip lock bag or two, water purification tabs, butane lighter, Kind bar. Less than a pound, fits in a pocket with my folding knife and a Surefire Sidekick.
As a long distance backpacker we have a saying cotton kills. I'd strongly recommend against wearing Jean's. I'd also throw in a lighter in there. 1 is none and 3 is 1.
Okay question what are you going to do about hunting, fishing, trapping if your bug out ends up becoming a very long term thing ? Also i recommend one pair of extra underware in case of a unplanned accident ?
Not much options for hunting, trapping or fishing on my route. My primary goal is to get from point A > B as fast as possible. I do have a couple of sites along the way where I do have small resupply caches were I can stay for longer if necessary. However if I get wrapped up or delayed en route, I have people who can come assist with the evac. Ideally those assets would be there from the onset to help w/ extract from my location.
@@TheSurvivalOutpost Oh i see right i really dont have anyone to call on because my entire team lives in my house here but i do plan on trying to find least a few more people to add to my prepper group.
My #1 priority for the past 5 years has been building a network from Tennessee to Florida. Now I have a small but very talented collective of combat vets and survivalists that can provide support and I do the same. I look at it this way... No matter who wins the election there will be armed conflict and having a network is everything.
@@TheSurvivalOutpost Yes thats very true as ive seen it coming too and this election will decied the fate of America i do believe.Maybe you could do a video on how to create ones own network of preppers as that would be interesting to watch.

Nicely done!👏 Luv the new pack by 3V Gear. I’m actually heading out on the trails for a long hike myself in the heat. I work outside everyday and walking for hours but pushing it to another level with weight is always fun. Check out POM Industries pepper spray. Definitely number one and a very lightweight option. I carry my everyday in my edc. Well done!👍🍻
Yup gotta love that pack eh? I was very impressed, but shouldn't be a surprise, 3V Gear makes great bags. Good luck on your hike, stay hydrated and check out some of those food options I mentioned, the electrolyte tabs and energy bars. I will def check out that pepper spray, thanks!
Good tutorial lots to think about but during a shtf it's usually to late to do certain things and you have to do it on the fly and hope for the best but how to pack what to pack etc being in shape is a big plus and some what healthy again ect but train now and prepare good luck🤔🇺🇸👍🔫
It might be wise to say that your gonna be walking along side 500 or so or even more people. A lot of people bugging out sown the same few streets/routes that lead out of the city
That's a big variable, hard to predict and very much tied to the situation at hand. Either way I hope to negate any human interaction by traveling at night and using my own routes for at least 1/3 of the trip
@@TheSurvivalOutpost no, just us 3 highschool boys hiking from Bremen to the north sea coast. we were young and thought it would be a cool idea. it wasn't that cool, but it was the beginning of the summer of our lifes ;- )

The subscriber to video quality ratio was way off from what i thought it would be. i was watching the video and went to see how many subs this guy had and i expected at least 200k but i saw 30k. awesome video quality for how many views you're getting.
I understand the concept, but what I DIDNT hear you talk about was providing for family members like you know wife an kids. By myself , ok this would almost do, but mix in others an that changes the weight game in my book, an NO rifle, hmm, not this kid an I m an OL MAN, definitely gonna have something more than a pistol. The only other things I would add is a small like 12" machete, an a skeeter net, not adding much weight there an we both know how buggy it can get, I m torn about the 3V paratus for my self, another YT channel said there GTG in his book an I really like them, buuuut, still doing research, thx for the vid Bro.
Great point, a journey like this with family would be a literal nightmare lol. My scenario is that before things went 100% to shit, family has left to stay with friends in a safe location. Myself and others have stayed behind to guard our property and possessions. About weapons, if I upgraded the pack size, I could carry a very compact AR, or maybe even fit my M4, who knows. For now, the pistol is the best option. I don't want contact with humans at all. Travel at night, skirt major urban areas, and take great pains to move undetected. Regarding those bugs, they get bad at night, but I roll up in my hammock and fully clothed with the shemagh I'm pretty much impervious to attack.
Glad you liked it, translation is "Will To Power" by Nietzsche. A concept that I use to empower my life and motivate change, and to drive power of will for self improvement
Every now and then, I'd love to see a prepper and an ultralight long distance hiker give each other a shake down. If your toothbrush had a handle, your going to lose.
I'm naturally leaning out, no intentional flexing, yes the camo hat I could switch, camo is common in my area, I live near a military base. Yes smart watch is tracking and also the phone, in a real situation IF lets say its E&E scenario, I would stow both in my blackout bag. But like I mentioned in the video, in real situation I would have my traditional watch and smart watch would stay home. Jeans are 5.11 brand and have a blend of splandex and cotton making them an excellent choice when dealing with moisture and wet conditions. I appreciate the critique!
socks have gotta be changed lol, I swapped for new ones about 10 miles into that trip, took a decent break, drank water and felt 100% better for the last leg. Thx for the mag pills mention, had totally forgot!

Cool thx and I'm watching your video where your in DB National Forest... Good stuff love that area!
LOL yep gotta take it out and practice with it.
right on S.T.!!
Great video! Super thorough and organized. I really appreciate your effort!
Glad it was helpful! I had alot of fun with this one
Got to start walking, got gear, need to teach a grandson who lives with me.
Yup start out slow, get in a few miles and work your way up
Just be sure to stay hydrated, dress in lightweght drifit style clothes and give it a shot. You might surprise yourself.
I would actually consider upping the pepper spray to bear spray. More volume, more distance, and better against a crowd. Might be worth the weight.
Not a bad idea!
@@TheSurvivalOutpost
Fyi.... I believe that using Bear Spray on people may illegal. Might check on that in your area...in some places it's a Felony.
Bear spray is actually less potency than the human kind. It just shoots farther and broader. The bear's senses are more sensitive so less is needed.
@@christianknight2905 I was speaking strictly about legality. In some jurisdictions it is illegal to use it on people... Unfortunately.
Great video, thank you but at 4:25 I was 😂 thinking of Ron Burgundy "Awww Milk was a bad choice!"
😂😂😂

Much appreciated!
Excellent, and horrifyingly timely, video. Will copy this myself next weekend.

Well said! And about the camo hat, I live in a military town so camo is very common place
That is a good point, I've been caught in the backspray before. Thanks for dropping in
Liking the video and subscribed 45 seconds in! 👍🏽

Only thing i would change would be switch to cargo pants. So much more useful , and i keep the pepperspray in the right cargo, quick access for defense against dogs as well as humans.
yes I do like cargo pockets, but my jeans have six pockets, enough for my needs
Video productions great mate well done.
Thx glad you liked it!
The best smart watch for bugout is Garmin Fenix/Tactix or Garmin Instinct, on budget...

i haven't find a lightweight armor setup yet...got any suggestiosn?
I mean I run steel plates with a minimal plate carrier .. best I can do .. .. loved the video
@@TheSurvivalOutpost
CNOC bags are a fantastic choice!
Get home bag: trash bag, zip lock bag or two, water purification tabs, butane lighter, Kind bar. Less than a pound, fits in a pocket with my folding knife and a Surefire Sidekick.
Sounds like you have a short trip back home. No need for water, food, medical etc?

As a long distance backpacker we have a saying cotton kills. I'd strongly recommend against wearing Jean's. I'd also throw in a lighter in there. 1 is none and 3 is 1.
Yeah I agree about the jeans, thats why I use the 5.11 Defender. Its a good mix of polyester and cotton, very lightweight, breathable and stretchy.

Interesting video. Just glad to see someone actually test their gear instead of just talking about it.
Glad you liked it, all my gear loadouts are testing in real life cause there is no other substitute
@@TheSurvivalOutpost theres just so many prepping channels who talk about guns and gear and never do test. Probably couldnt walk to their mail box with their gear without passing out

Its a little touch and go filming at these sites, however I think I've found a couple locations are 99% safe to film at and maybe even stay a few days
I recomend a $9 cool towel .and a silcox key
cool towel not a bad idea...almost took my sillcock key but swapped for the multi tool. All the panels I have in my area can be operated with pliers.
The Survival Outpost nice good deal
I like the PakTowel. light, microfiber, and It works well
Some people go the extra mile. You went 40? Outstanding.
Semper Fi
Yup and learned a lot during the process, good times!
I once made 60 miles in 3 days, it was enough^^
Whoa damn that is stretching the limits. Was that a military exercise?

Thanks for the support yeah 200K would be nice, all in good time.
Good video brother.

Pack looks good. Unique straps.
Respectful criticism:
> flexing muscles for video....!
> "gray man" concept... But with camo hat?
> avoiding tracking...wearing a "smart" watch?
> jeans when wet = quick route to hypothermia
I'm naturally leaning out, no intentional flexing, yes the camo hat I could switch, camo is common in my area, I live near a military base. Yes smart watch is tracking and also the phone, in a real situation IF lets say its E&E scenario, I would stow both in my blackout bag. But like I mentioned in the video, in real situation I would have my traditional watch and smart watch would stay home.
Jeans are 5.11 brand and have a blend of splandex and cotton making them an excellent choice when dealing with moisture and wet conditions.
I appreciate the critique!
