After being offered a job, I packed up all of my stuff and moved from DC to New Mexico after law school. My employer paid me to study for the bar. When the time came, I hiked up to Albuquerque to tackle the mighty bar exam. After three years of academic hell in the perpetually overcast drab of the nation’s capital, I now found myself cruising through a citrus-bright, sun-soaked city. ABQ-at least the corner I drove through-was amazing! I popped in a “goodbye” CD a friend gave me and this was track number one. Fell in love with this song in the Land of Enchantment. Even now when I hear it, my heart aches. I so vividly remember those pivotal days, when I was brimming with optimism and my new life was just beginning. God felt near. Maybe nostalgia has glorified the past. Either way, this song is special to me. I passed the bar by the way.
This band is one of the most underrated. Grammy worthy, Rock n Roll Hall Of Fame Bound and lastly to be inducted into the songwriters hall of fame for some of the best lyricism in thier genre between second or fourth to Foo Fighters, Atlas Genius and Vance Joy. hands down.
very good this band one of the best bands in Europe, this is my opnion I am hispanic here in Brazil I did not stop to hear the sound of this band phoenix.
they are so good. It amazes me how good a persons voice can be. and it doesnt make me want to bang my head on a wall like the mainstream stuff on the radio. I love phoenix!
In the start I listened to the singers voice and thought: "omg, that's awfull", but after watching this video I WANT MORE! Actually I didn't know them before, but I'm kinda sure that I'm FAN! Look at that drummer! This band is like created for me!
Multiple comments saying the drummer is "on fire", my brain would probably explode out of my ears if I could actually see him play while literally being lit on fire... That guy is fcking awesome!
@fionaspencer8 They are pop. Not because they are popular (though it is a small part of the reason), but because of their style. Popular or pop musics encompass rock, "pop", hip-hop, smooth "jazz" and anything else that doesn't go under "legit" music. "Legit" music is classical,, orchestral, jazz and the like.
@wanstrup I didn't say it's the album version, it just looks like maybe they recorded his vocals live prior to it. They obviously play to a click track, so it's possible
It would be really bizarre for them to have pre-recorded a vocal track that is occasionally flat and has volume dips from turning from the mic. Yeah, it's possible but it's also possible that the lead singer painted his left leg green for this performance. There's no reason to suspect. I don't see any discrepancies in the video/audio sync and his diction matches how wide his mouth is opening.
drummer is a beast !
Drummer is cr8zay
@@DrCash7 Animal !
I can't believe how old this album is. The whole thing is such a masterpiece. It still feels brand new.
That’s great music.

This entire album is still phenomenal. The drummer is off the chain.
The energy he puts into playing. So sick
Am I the only person whom thinks this is their best song next to 1901?

This is one of my fav all time albums. The best from them hands down.
Despite growing up w/great 80's, 90's music, I think Phoenix is just the best.
Thomas Mars is an angel. I could listen to his singing voice over and over again without getting fed up.

The Drummer really makes this band go....very distinct sound and style, kinda of reminds of the way Keith Moon of the Who attacked the drum kit.

Carlton is on Fire!!!
Giiiirrrrrrrrlfriend 3:11
30 ex-girlfriends disliked this song.
Is this a break up song?
Being in Cult of Luna would make you drum like that. I love Thomas Hedlund.
1:41 Phoenix takes us into a late night time paradox of improvisational proportions! A black whole!
He's just a sessionist, but you can check him out in his original band, múm. They're from Iceland.
il y a une énergie supra naturel de la part du batteur. Un phénomène incompréhensible ? ou le batteur puise son énergie ?
My mans
Also the best late night host there is.

Hedlund is kick ass.

@Benjiloutheking Yes he does, left ear

That dude is gettin' those drumbs lol
everyone that think that phoenix has only 4 members thats not true its 6 the drummer and the organ player
vive la France !!!!
@alanenpanico yeahhh! he should be a permanent member of the band!
correct!
the drummers actually missing all the bones in his neck so his head flops uncontrollably while he's playing
The drummer is in the groove. Thumbs if you agree
first of all it wasnt a new album. the album came out in 2009
Look at the drummer go!
Thomas Hedlund is a fucking BEAST on the drums...
add him to your band already, phoenix....

Omg love this song but the guy with the red guitar kind of ruined the song. His timing was a little off up until 2:14 . Anybody else hear it??
0:46 the Drummer!
@floydisbest True, anyway, I still think that everything was live.
