- With just under 100,000 total units sold in the US in 2022, the #LexusRX is the best-selling #Lexus vehicle in America. For 2023, the Lexus #RX500hFSport takes the top speed in the lineup, combining a turbocharged 2.4L engine with 2-electric motors, including a powerful eAxle at the rear. The result is the quickest and sportiest version ever and its one that should appeal to driving enthusiasts.

While the new Lexus RX500h F-Sport Performance is no competitor to a BMW X5 M, this model finally has enough grunt to have it compete with cars like the X5 xDrive40i or an Acura MDX Type S. Do you guys think this model has enough power or should Lexus have made this a plug-in hybrid?
It has enough power for an RX. In my opinion, plugging in, is not luxurious. Buyers who are looking at Lexus tend to be a little older and they just want ease of operation. This is the power that it should have always had. Kudos to Lexus for this model.
No this isn’t enough. It should be a PHEV. It’ll get better performance too
@@jdfuller1971 why kudos if it doesn’t do anything better?
Although power has increased substantially from the last gen RX, it cannot compete directly with BMW X5. This is the highest model but has a similar performance to the base X5 (40i).
I understand the clientele is different but I d love to see a Lexus crossover with 500+ hp and sub 5 sec 0-60mph.
rx is better than the gv80 and mdx.But not good as a x5
I still don't understand how Tesla is considered luxury. They are nothing of the sort. None of their vehicles are luxury in terms of build materials, quality control, luxury features etc...
I agree 100%, The ride is for sure not luxury also. A loaded Telluride or Palisade is far more luxury than a Model Y.
Price is luxury
Materials are poverty
Tesla is just another brand name like apple. Mercedes, lexus, bmw, and audi have way better quality
They started as expensive and most people dont have the luxury of having a charger in their home.
Tesla tech is the luxury. It is far ahead of what other car makes are doing. The infotainment, constant updates and customization you can do is years ahead. Build quality is about the same as any Toyota or Honda I've driven. The materials have gotten better over time too. More squishy soft material than before.
I am in the process of a manufacturer buy back. I purchased a RX 500h F Sport in March. I live in Va and had to go to Philadelphia to get this car. I drove it back, no problems.... Three days later it started throwing codes about hybrid malfunctions. Took it to the local dealer, they had it for 3 days and said they said they called Lexus and they couldn't find the issue. They cleared it and returned to me. 12 days later, I was driving down I-95, the car lost ALOT of power, and it threw 6 different codes. I pulled off to then side of the highway got it towed to the same dealership.... 4 days later I got a TEXT telling me the car needed a completely new transmission. I filed a lemon dispute on the car. Lexus just agreed to buy back the car and will replace with a new one. Its been a nightmare. A $75k nightmare!!
Welcome to the club!!! LEMON LAW!!!
You finnnnnnnnaly posted this video! Omg I've been waiting!
Was in for service today and sat in the RX500, really really nice. The Lexus feeling of quality is there,, but I wish it had a turbo V6. If you don't care about that, this is a massive upgrade over the previous generation.
Far from it. It’s a downgrade in so many ways. From the somewhat Toyota grade interior to the useless tech that nobody asked for to poor ergonomics like the eradication of physical buttons to an all 4 cylinder lineup
Do you guys have any jerking problems? Like shaking/rattling when you go on reverse or forward?
Remote start IS on all Lexus fobs going back to 2018, but not a dedicated button. You have to press lock 3 times, then hold the third time until it starts
I wanted to express my thanks and appreciation for your channel. Your videos on the 2023 Lexus RX 500h helped me make an informed decision about purchasing this SUV. I also enjoy watching your reviews on other vehicles.
Did you end up buying it? We are getting one and I’m a bit nervous as hubby just went and bought it 🙄
Great vid. Does the touch screen keep flashing;/blinking no matter what??
We do have remote start from the key fob. Click the lock button three times. However at the third click, hold the lock button down…the engine will start.
Why oh WHY did they replace a V6 with a 4 cylinder. I love Lexus cars but what were they thinking! I need to upgrade my RX but may have to change brands now. Not excited about it
Finally, Lexus gives customers what they have been begging for!
It took them a long time, but it is a toyota.
They make something reliable & worth its price!
You don't see Mercedes/tesla/audi, etc, on the road.
It's after vaule will always be greater.
Of course you don't buy for speed or excitement.
You buy it based on a lifetime experience.
Had the pleasure of teat driving the RX500h direct 4 today in Newfoundland as the journalist is taking it on a cross tour. What a fabulous vehicle very impressive
This RX is absolutely gorgeous. Lexus is about to rule the world of luxury cars. I’m not surprised, it’s now the best selling luxury brand beating Benz and BMW in sales. Truly the Putsuit of Perfection 🙌🏼
Yeah no it’s not 😂
Bmw Benz genesis Acura Lincoln jeep are the real luxury brands
I bought an 2023 500 Sport and within two months of driving it with 1319 miles on it it ended up back at Eskridge Lexus needing a new transmission and computer. NEVER NEVER buy a first generation car no matter who the manufacturer is! Eskridge Lexus has not at this point done anything but tell me I can trade it in as a used car. I have called Lexus direct and hoping that they will force the dealer to do the right thing. This was at that time the third car having this issue. I'm sure Lexus will figure it out and fix the problem but for those of us who spent a lot of money on a car we could drive for years and enjoy it's beyond a disappointment.
Do you have the jerking/shaking problems? I just bought mine for about a month and it seems like its getting worse
I would definitely consider those full digital guages albeit smaller than some but it looks more sporty to me and all the info you need is there plus a HUD. 👌🏽
Lexus refuses to do full digital clusters because of reliability. LCD burn out and important driver information is on those displays. What I wish Lexus would do is switch to OLED on their MID make it more flush with the non digital parts.
@@gengstar09 which is odd because Toyota seems to be embracing it downstream, considering the gauge cluster on the Grand Highlander is fully digital.
@@RemixerUltimate its also on the RAV4, Venza, Sienna, Crown, and Mirai. I’m hoping that Lexus eventually makes the transition. So far, the LS500h is the only model with a full digital display.
We traded in a 2010 RX 450h to get a 2019 RX 350. Probably won't keep it long because my wife misses the AWD and extra power. But the 2010 wasn't going to last much longer and the 350 is what was available. I can see us getting this new 500h in the next few years.

Great review! The tire's treadwear rating is clearly visible at 220. That's very low, so the compound is probably grippy enough to not need a wider tire.
I don't understand why you need a so many 4-cylinder versions and not a single V6 to be found. They have an excellent turbo V6 in the LS and LX and it would have been great here in the top of the line "500" model.

I’ve been waiting for our reserved Ultimate White with Red to arrive ever since putting a reservation deposit since Nov 2022. Waiting for a car has been a frustrating experience as my wife needs a car. There have been inventory in some local dealers here on the west coast but those blood suckers want 5K-20K markup which is stupid and lame but that gouging probably won’t last long as reports have said used car values have been coming down and that will affect new models as well.
Waiting has been very depressing as well as watching the same RX500h videos over and over on YT but whenever Sofyan puts out a new video, that depression goes away. 😊

It opens in three different ways on the center armrest check the button on the back. It’s pretty cool.
Just Traded in my 2013 RX450h to get a 2019 RX450h because I didn’t want to give up the smooth V6 for a turbo 4 with premium gas required. I don’t need a few seconds faster or a new car that’s smaller and built in North America so I’m good for the next 10 years.
Definitely like this car in black because that nose overhang isn't as noticeable, but my detailer would tell me to steer away from black haha juggling b/w this guy and the outgoing model (I LOVE that design)
Yeah the reason this car has a long front overhand is because it is using a fwd-based platform. All other competitors especially those from european brands mostly used rwd-based platform so that they could have a shorter front overhang and longer rear overhang.

@@naveenthemachine Lexus has and always will be luxury. They will always be competitive with the Germans. Blowing Genesis, Lincoln(Ford), & Acura out of the water. Not like Lexus competes with those premium brands.
Personally, I think the front of this vehicle is quite simply beautiful. Though I'm not the biggest fan of the rear lights. Overall this car is definitely a head turner (maybe not so much in the black).
Missing the V6. A turbo V6 would have been good added with electric motors with plug in option.
This is a pretty silly question: but is the constant change of drive modes per drive wear on the transmission?
Can you try to get the 2023 Lexus 300h
Do y’all realize this won’t compete with the MDX once the TX comes out which will be a real 3 row crossover so this isn’t really comparable to the MDX but if that was the case I would take the RX. So much more tech and electrification.
The TX already lost its chance to compete. It’ll be bigger heavier less spacious boring to drive, non luxurious and overpriced while still being based on a 25K Toyota Camry
Agreed jxmar .
@@naveenthemachine Although the TX will be late to the game, they will still take sales away from other car manufacturers notably the Acura MDX and possibly the Germans and Koreans. With the demand for larger 3 row vehicles, there is no doubt that the TX will be bigger but that would mean more space especially when compared to the discontinued Lexus RX350L and RX450hL.
While Lexus cars are not known to be sporty cars to drive for the most part, I would argue that Lexus tends to go for more comfortable and smooth ride. This is not necessarily a bad thing but it depends on the buyer.
Non luxurious is subjective; no its not as ground breaking as the Germans or even what Hyundai has done with Genesis but its not bad. Lexus is lagging behind in the tech department especially in driver gauge cluster by recycling the LFA inspired gauges. Sadly, the new Toyota Tundra and Sequoia have larger full LCD screens.
In terms of overpriced, I would argue Lexus positions this as a premium vehicle so its bound to have a higher price tag than the Toyota equivalent; even when the TX comes out there will be the cheaper mainstream Toyota Grand Highlander.
Lastly, most car manufacturers utilize a common car platform in order to scale production. This is no different with than the MDX and Honda Pilot sharing platforms or Hyundai Palisades/Kia Telluride with the Genesis GV80. You can also think of VW group where the Audi Q5 and Porsche Macan share a platform or even the Audi Q7/Q8 sharing a platform with the Lamborghini Urus and Bentley Bentagya. Is that a reason not to buy a Urus or Bentayga just because it shares a platform with a cheaper vehicle?
@@Unkn0wnAzn remember every luxury car is comfortable including ones that are far sportier. The aviator that’s RWD based and drives way better is much comfier than Lexus. The x5 and GLE even are very comfortable despite being sportier. Even the M or AMG models are comfortable still. It doesn’t ride like or worse than say a ford focus RS.
If you look at the latest Lexus interiors they’re far from luxurious. A luxurious interior would have design and top quality materials. If it’s luxurious where’s the stitched leather on the doors or dash or lower door panels? Or the leather airbag cover? Or the acres of wood trim or metal speaker grilles or the dramatic ambient lighting? None of those exist. If you don’t think those make an interior luxurious i may as well say a Toyota Corolla is as luxurious as a mazda3. But we all know that’s nowhere near true.
When it comes to platforms, platform sharing to an extent is fine but you have to draw a line. For example Honda vs Acura. Acura now uses a double wishbone front suspension in the MDX and TLX. Acura starts with a v6 engine in the MDX and the top end 2.0T from the accord. Notice Acura doesn’t use a 1.5T in their more expensive models. And Acura offers a turbo v6 option unavailable on any mainstream Honda. And Acura goes further with it’s luxurious cabin, top quality materials, and a better experience while still being comfortable
Lexus on the other hand is much worse. For example there are zero suspension differences between say an nx and a rav4. Suspension designs the same across. But to make things worse, Lexus uses every single engine from the rav4. The base 4 cylinder, thr hybrid, same 300hp PHEV. Sure no turbo in the rav4 but remember the rav4 nx ride on the TNGA k platform and there are a lot of models on that platform. RX highlander sienna ES camry crown etc. when you expand the turbo is also shared w a 35K highlander. Even the rx500h powertrain is going to be used in lesser Toyotas so you already took away the luxury differentiation
And as for urus vs q8 they may share platforms but they don’t go as far as to just reusing the same platform as a VW. What I mean is you won’t find Audi Quattro on a VW Taos. You won’t find the zf 8 speed on a Tiguan or atlas. You won’t find a double wishbone suspension on any of those vws. You won’t find a turbo v6 or turbo v8 or the rs3 turbo 5 cylinder in a golf or pasaat.
I’m not saying platform sharing is bad but you have to make significantly structural changes to further differentiate it. Reusing an economy car suspension, engine, transmission or AWD system is an insult
@@naveenthemachine your pretty blind if you think the new rx isn’t luxurious, it’s very modern and great especially with what people buy Toyota and Hondas for which is long term ownership than this is great for buyers, so people will still buy the TX over the cramped GLE X5 Q7 3rd rows (I’ve been in all) as Lexus claims it’ll be the biggest people have ever seen in a suv (bigger than seqouia) so can’t wait to see them sale and you being like “but these people are dumb for buying Lexus 😭 “
Going 4 cylinders is a big mistake by lexus …the sound and feel of a 4 cylinders will never be nice on a high premium car

Depends on the brand but most of them get crushed after media and Lexus is done testing them.
@@theredline Thanks for that. I'm smarter now.
The RX 500h answers a question that virtually no RX owners were asking. With the V6 gone, the RX 350h is the one to get. 😁
Why bother w the 350h?
It’s the same drivetrain as a highlander sienna rav4 Camry etc. you don’t buy a luxury car for mpg
@@naveenthemachine you don't buy anything. You drive your mom's car
@@mikej238 I’m not gonna bother w you. I bought the car myself and everything from the loan to insurance to registration are in my name only. No one else
If you don’t want to believe me fine but I speak the truth.
It answers questions from a young UA-camr obsessed with 0-60times and CarPlay… certainly not a RX owner!
@@naveenthemachine 😂 you're 17 tops. You own a 2002 Hyundai Elantra dad gave you....Krishnamurthy 😂 I have more time driving than you have breathing
I hate the fact that Lexus is replacing the V6 engines with 4 cylinder turbos
There is nothing wrong with i4 turbos lol.😂. Even mercedes is going in that way. I sick and tired of people like you
Toyota is obsessed with maximizing fuel economy. If they were smart, they'd be making a V6 PHEV with 40Miles on electric minimum. A car like that will sell out faster than they can make it. Customers have to turn to American brands for V6 PHEVs. pure hybrid V6's are pointless, the Sequoia barely sees a bump to fuel economy. I question Toyota's engineering decisions, but at least the design decisions have improved drastically.
@@coke947 you could simply ignore my comment if you are not civilised enough to disagree with someone and respect their opinion.
@@MundoOval i do respect you comment .sick and tired that is not about you so dont worry kid.
Yay! Cooled seats and not ventilated. Sold!
Well I like the Black Edition.
Should’ve kept the V6
No and v6 should have died long time a ago
@@coke947 silly
That's why I have a mdx type s
Should've like they have a choice lol.
I agree but the turbo 4 cylinders are just more efficient. With power, everyday driving, fuel economy. The only thing the V6 had on this 4 cylinder and pretty much most of them is smoothness and reliability.
Idk Lexus really dropped their bulletproof V6 and adopted a 4-cylinder engine that turbocharges. Time and time again, naturally aspirated V6 has consistently shown to have more longevity than turbochargers.
A good number of the Lexus NX was recalled for defects in smartphone-controlled headlights, lane tracing assist software, and electronic handbrake. Seeing how they copied and pasted the design from that onto this vehicle, guess we’ll let time speak for itself.
There is no bs mouse pad thing lexus used to love to navigate the screen.
great video
-- why this over the other ver of RX, given the extra price for what
-- wondering why the RX over the NX
-- nothing for the enthusiast, who wants something substantially extra, and to compete with other vehicles
-- why not just BEV, given performance of EVs
Mainly for some performance gains and having the F sport performance package but for most people its definitely not going to be worth the money. The RX350 and 350h would be their volume sellers.
RX is a bigger vehicle overall but on paper it doesn't seem like there is much difference in terms of passenger comfort or cargo space. One small differentiator between NX and RX is that RX offers heated and ventilated rear seats and 120V AC inverter (hybrid only). Not sure if that is enough to convince people to go for the RX. I am still convinced that the RX is bigger in person than NX.
Sadly for enthusiasts, I dont think Lexus will be there to compete with the likes of a BMW X5M just because it won't sell well so they are more likely to focus on improving their volume seller RX trims instead.
Have to shout out Alex on Autos, but if the intention is to reduce overall emissions, its better to build multiple hybrids rather than one BEV.
Can't please everyone. Buy a dump truck and then you can shift your brains out. Sexy.
RX much more spacious vs NX.
Why Lexus won’t update the GX is beyond me
Because the GX and 4Runner go together, trust the 4 Runner is getting a total redesign....they are taking their time because the 4runner sells very well....have to get it right.
Maybe because there is high profit and they sell a decent number? Thanks for posting.
v8 hybrid for GX would be awesome.
@Troy Truong And people like yourself keep forgetting emissions, hell even Dodge will be dropping the hemi for s straight six twin turbo named hurricane.....
I can not wait until they come to their senses and bring the V6 back. Or if they want to keep the v4, pair it with a plug in battery that gives at least 30 miles of ev range.
i4 btw

I like the looks but fails on performance
