Alone on Ama Dablam 6812m

- 2014 - My first time visiting the Himalayas.
At the time I was really driven to become the youngest to solo Ama Dablam 6812m and set a new record.
looking back at it now I'm surprised that this was a huge motivation for me but I also came to the realization that these things change.
Nowadays I'm driven by my curiosity - to learn what awaits me up somewhere where nobody has ever been and to get to know what I'm capable of as an Alpinist, as a human being.
I filmed everything with a single Gopro back then.

I just returned last week from Summiting Ama Dablam. I used fixed rope everywhere above camp I. Toughest feat of my entire life. I could not even begin to imagine taking it on without the aid of fixed rope. Extremely impressive. Congratulations mate.
Find the online price differences quite confusing. Can you tell how much you paid for the trip?
Thank's!
@@amthatmusic A thousand dollars.
@Dean Miller Correct, hard not to notice the fixed rope in the video. He didn't seem tied off to it at any point though.
@@frankobrien1371 In the summit pictures you can see that there ist a ascender at the belt. Even more strange is the summit panorama. It seems that the summit is the highest in the area, but it's not. You can never see Everest, Lhotse and Nuptse. I think everything is fake. Certainly a high mountain.
@@triroli71 The summit panorama is fast, but you can see Everest and Lhotse for sure at 5'57, and again, more clearly on the second time round at 6'01. The large, black south face of Lhotse with the summit of Everest behind, If you pause it you can see cloud streaming off the summit of Everest. What an achievement! Man, how I would love to see that panorama!!
That looked like some insanely bad conditions for soloing without a rope. The snow was so soft in places I literally held my breath for you. To be honest, I think you're nutso.
Jost, not a lot of people realize what a feat this is. I am wondering how you are not covered more around the alpinist mountaineering community. I hope you get more appreciation sooner than later for your incredible work!
I am addicted..I watch this every day
I will do ama dablam within three years.i want to do it solo..
You are a true inspiration...
Uwwa
Probably one of the best 360 degrees ever! I so enjoyed your ascent,... your magic climb to the summit. Thanks you so much for sharing this divine moment!
This is wild! Wow no ropes and he even climbs alone in the dark, that's impressive! This video should have millions of views!! ♥
i love the footage. i like the climber. i'm grateful to see it. And i'm an ass for saying this. But the sounds of the mountain, the tools digging into the ice, and the sound of the climbers is even to a fault SUFFICIENT to my full enjoyment. WHY OH LORD WHY do i have to compete with the jarring soundtrack garbage to hear the sounds of nature and the climb. DOES EVERYTHING have to be a gd production?? The same goes for every sport, Go Pro surfing, skating snowboarding thing just everything in life has to sound like the Discovery Channel---muted, along with just about everything else forever on my TV and YT viewing. In closing, NO i never got to enjoy the sounds of you and your climing tools doing their thing.
I love you for doing this. Background music just made this all look so easy 😅
Strength and perseverance young Titan! And please remember, there will always be another day, another summit if the voice within -- the quiet, clear one you know so well -- is allowed to serve as your guide. Do not over-think. In Sanskrit it is said: Tat Tvam Asi -- "You Are That". Trust. And climb a lifetime!
Solo climbing is the real deal. No one else to rely on. The most gratifying achievement you will ever experiance.
👍 to your success !
02:10 This moment gave me chills. Literally staring death in the face. An amazing feat you have accomplished, very well done.
Thank u for the video Jost. Hope to be there in near future. This year I was very lucky to see amadablam on my way to EBC. I saw your interview on TV. Thank you for inspiring ordinary people like me that we all have capabilities to become extraordinary .
Greetings from Nepal.
Bin sehr beeindruckt was für eine physische und Mentale Topleistung.

Amazing video!!! I am doing ama dablam in the next 2 years i fell in love with it on my everest trip.
happy to hear - if you need help with the Organisation send me an email on my website ;)
Congrats and well done! Obviously the climb is extremely impressive, but in addition I thoroughly enjoyed the video and your editing skills. Keep it up!
Superb achievement to solo Ama Dablam - and your video is fabulous - really conveys the atmosphere and exposure!
Awesome work Jost and a great video. Thanks for sharing your experience, Ama Dablam is one of my favourite mountains
Yeah it's a beatiful Mountain;)
Excellent ... well done. After Everest in 1953 Edmund Hilary looked at Ama Dablam and declared it unclimbable. He later return and climb it. Congrats on great style and a remarkably good video for self filming.
Holy sh*t, man, that is amazing and impressive, and obviously, quite dangerous on your own. I've always admired Ama Dablam when in the Khumbu Valley and hope to climb it someday, but as most anyone will tell you, it's an extremely tough climb! Congratulations on your accomplishment and thank you for sharing this video.
Totally breathtaking...saw your solo Lenin too - superb and strong:) keep it UP!!!! Fingers crossed.
This is still an amazing achievement! I come back to this video some times to be reminded of courage and determination.
Hi Jost just wanted to say I love this video. You got me into mountain climbing... doing my first climb of the Großglockner (Austria) this year. You are truly an inspiration... wish you good luck for your next adventures. And ignore the haters, they are just envious
Man sieht erst wie steil es runter geht nachdem er oben ist und runter filmt, vorher sieht es irwie gar net so steil aus, echt krass, dass man da überhaupt hock laufen kann! =D
This is an incredible climb and a really great video.
the awesomeness of this feat is one thing, I got to learn how 2:50 is done - initial thought, "this guy brings a drone too?", but the best is he takes the time to answer questions. I will never climb in person just virtually with amazing people like Jost. Thank you.
I watch these videos, and they are inspiring to the mind, body, and soul. Great work!
Just came back from Ama Dablam base camp. There were three casualties a few days before because of an ice fall. Very impressive what you did. Always take care and good luck!
You made my day mate .

Hallo Jost, ich war jetzt auch 2 mal dort und im Oktober nun ein drittes Mal. Dein Video könnte ich mir in der Dauerschleife immer wieder ansehen 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
wow that's sooo amazing and inspiring man! Keep on climbing! I can't wait for my trip to Nepal next Spring, gonna try easier peaks first, like solo Island Peak
Did you do Island Peak?
Amazing! so inspiring!
this mad man is going for everest right now.
Being up there on your own must be super cool.
Wow, just incredible! It looks awfully steep, makes me nervous just watching the video :-)
Great effort mate! Love your go pro footage. Did you down climb it or use the fixed ropes, bet down climbing would be pretty scary
In 1998 I was on an expedition with, among other people, Chad Kellog.
We all took about 2 weeks to do the climb the usual way. After summitting Chad went down to base camp and rested for three days or so. Then, he woke up at 1AM, had some breakfast, and started up the Mtn at 2AM. He reached summit in the afternoon and was back down to base camp at 8PM (the same day) for dinner. We watched him with binoculars. So, we know, for sure, that he really did it. Your accomplishment is great too! I mention Chad because he died (climbing) last year and your video reminded me of him. So, RIP Chad, and be safe Jost!
Hey Thank you so much for your comment- I think I can really feel right now how you must have been feeling watching him, people also watched me with binoculars during my climb... So I was just on the other end of the story you're telling;) The risk in climbing is just part of it, and when we choose to do certain expeditions or climbs we know about it and it sometimes gives us this feeling that we are really on an adventure... -but what happened to Chad?
Sadly Chad died, climbing, many years later.
Good job, Host!!! My climbing helmet is off to you, friend. Have fun on your next summit, and be safe up there.
Uauu, crazy, amazing!!!..Congrats and respect!
Congratulation! Amazing 👍🏼
Junge, Junge. Respekt und meinen Glückwunsch.
Amazing..love from Nepal
I lost a friend on this mountain, he died on a descent in 2014, Murad Ashurly. Thank you for the video, God bless! Be safe
This is just awesome :)
Extraordinary... A real climber... Cheers !!!!
Very impressive! Great video too!
Protip though: Don't pour boiling water into a flimsy bag while holding it. Put that biz on the ground to fill up. If you miss or the bag folds, you're now on a ledge at 5000m with a burnt hand...
hey Evan, thx for your advice
The boiling temp at that altitude is less than 100°C.
@@terranhealer Its still boiling water :-)
@@Distrax boiling just means it's releasing gases. If it boils at less than 100° and you need 212° to cook, it would take significantly longer to cook if at all.
SYNAPSE ON ah i always thought boiling is boiling no mater what the temperature point is, boiling point on Everest is 69C so a egg would cook faster there then here on sea level.
Good work mate!
Einfach krass!! Sehr geil gemacht! :)
Incredible! Keep climbing buddy! Stay safe :D
Conflicting advice. He can keep climbing or he can stay safe. Can't do both.
Nice one Frank lol : )
wtfffff!!!!! amazing job, but never in a million years would I be able to do that
Absolutely insane!
Good vid bro ! Hope to see you next year in Erzurum ice festival !
yeah it was very nice- hope to be there again !

+Jost kobusch Have you gotten there yet? Also wich music did you use? Great editing aswell!
I used creative commoins Music from Kopeica - how do you mean if I have gotten there yet?
I ment if you had enough money this year for an expedtion to lhotse :). Thanks btw!
I'm not sure yet if I will be able to go to lhotse next year...
How did you do the circular shots? Did you have a drone? Great video ... I am truly impressed. You should have made it longer and more detailed; I could have watched for hours! Bravo!
Bro! We have the same birthday!!! 03/08/1992. LEGENDARY Climb!!!!! I've always dreamt of getting to climb in the Himalaya, especially the Khumbu, such overwhelming beauty. Or even climbing in Europe would be amazing, Mont Blanc and Elbrus are on my bucket list. Maybe one day I'll be fortunate enough to do it!!!!!! Cheers from Virginia, USA!!!!
Hey Matt - hahahaha AWESOME! May I ask what you are doing in your life at the moment?
I'm a career Firefighter/EMT for a city in Virginia. Working on picking up a part-time gig on a wildland fire crew for the state as well... spend my (rare) days off fishing or hiking, just loving nature!
cool - interesting to know what I could have been doing when I was born somewhere else
Wow, that's a trippy thought! Seems like you're getting the most out of life though!
Unglaubliche Leistung und sehr inspirierend!
