    Great video! Love the footage without music and editing. I fear high places and have minor breathing issues so I can only try easy hikes myself (even 2km top Kyrkja in Norway was very scary for me, because of easy scrambling) but I love watching montain videos. Thank you for letting us follow your amazing journeys :)

    I argue that everyone that starts this trip is on board with wanting to hike with the “my life is in my own hands. If I’m going out I’ll tell people.”
    Then that’s when the inexperienced people come in and challenge people and things. Your life is in your own hands and if you have butter fingers maybe think about where you are when you get them.
    My dream is to climb this mountain. I expect to die when I do it. I’ve researched the issues. If I’m going out I’m going to at least make it there. Also going to do at least 3 of the 8k’s

      MeinM5 thanks. I had planned to climb Denali this year with friends and already got the permit before the national park service cancelled the entire season due to the coronavirus pandemic. I then signed up for Shishabangma in September, but it got cancelled as well. So will have to wait till next year. I’m a senior employee of a local company and am lucky to make enough money to afford this and have a boss who’s nice enough to get me the time off. My climbing teammates come from all walks of life including small business owners, rich fund managers, freelancers, government employees, police officer, etc. People find ways to do this if they really want it.

    • @li-lancheng2535
      @li-lancheng2535  6 років тому +3

      teepa camera equipment is listed at the end of the video. The whole thing cost about US$14000, including climbing fee, tips, helicopter rides but excluding air fares from home to Kathmandu. If you trek for 4 days from Kathmandu to base camp and back instead of taking helicopters, you would save about $2000.

    • @teepa12
      @teepa12 6 років тому

      Thank you for your response. I see there are many travel agencies that offer these kind of commercial climbs. How do you separate the good from the bad? I am a starting mountaineer, gonna summit Kebnekaise (2106 m) next spring and Mont Blanc (4810 m) after. Which mountain would you recommend after those?

    • @li-lancheng2535
      @li-lancheng2535  6 років тому +5

      teepa in general, you don’t want to go with the cheapest operator. Go with someone who has organized large numbers of climbers and been to the same mountain for many years. I have never been to Mont Blanc but think it’s a good place to learn basic skills of snow and ice climbing. After this if you want to go for higher altitudes, you can try Elbrus in Russia and Kilimanjaro in Tanzania. Above 6000m there are a few choices in Nepal like Mera and Ana Dablam. Once you have done these, you can start thinking about 8000m.

      Lol that was indeed an amusing scene, a beginner skier at that altitude. I missed filming two Russian expert skiers who flew by me at around 5700m. DIPANKAR DAS 30:45 is almost a 360 video. As you can see at 31:10, I stopped just short of the summit as the line of people waiting to take a summit photo was too long. I didn’t really care about that. In fact, most of them would not reach the true summit anyway. To reach the true summit requires a dangerous traverse on a knife edge snow ridge.

      Big Sam K-2 may be slightly easier than Annapurna but still very challenging and in my view not suitable for commercial guided climbing. A traffic jam on Everest or Manaslu is manageable but can easily be deadly on K-2. I think I can manage the technical issues but am scared of the avalanche and rock fall risks, which no one can control.

    Hi there. Do you have any plans in the future for another 8000 mountain? We need a good K2 and Nanga Parbat video :D

      I tried Makalu last year but failed to summit because I felt I wasn’t physically strong enough to reach the summit. Didn’t train hard enough. I may go back and try again. Probably will not do K-2 or Nanga Parbat. Don’t think I’m strong enough. Too risky.

      @@li-lancheng2535 Ah, good to hear you know your body and listen to it.
      Understandable, both are amongst the most dangerous mountains of them all. Can't fault anyone from shying away, I doubt I will ever make it on one such mountain you do.
      But will you do the Karakorum ? I personally think it is much more interesting than the Himalayas, even wilder.

      @@Sedna063 I think I can at least trek to K-2 base camp. I’ve seen photos taken by my friends and they are stunning, indeed more beautiful if in a stark and austere way than the Himalayas. Not sure if I will climb any of the 8000m peaks there. I kind of give myself a couple of more years to climb one or two really high mountains before moving on to other things in life. Getting old.

      @@li-lancheng2535 OK cool, thank you for your replies.
      Yes, I would never be able to climb a mountain like that (would surely die) but I would want to do some tracking there after uni is finished. Something like Annapurna trail or in fact Concordia place or Goodwin-Austin glacier.
      In any case, do you have some footage for the Makalu ? Even if you didn't make it to the top, I am sure the quality of it is great.

    Pulling yourself up a rope over rocky terrain isn't climbing. Climb the rock in a sporting, respectful way, Others who set the fixed rope did, so why not you? plain and simple

    • @anupamthapa.
      @anupamthapa. 5 років тому +5

      You're an ignoramus... Sure the ropes are fixed and all but do you even know how difficult it is to function on altitudes over 8000m? The lack of oxygen, the quick burn up of calories, the chances of avalanches, the Sub-Zero temperature. There are so many factors that make mountaineering a difficult endeavor. Learn before commenting from the next time.
