    This is a prized look at one incredibly underrated genius.
    *Can play as fast as anyone but he's even better when he slows it down 'cause his melodies are so tight.
    *Can improvise huge arpeggios without having to restart his solos.
    *This video was taken during a tough stretch in his personal life--still a consummate professional in the studio.

    Does anyone get goosebumps listening to him play or is it just me? Something about his style, phrasing and tone that, I think, tricks my brain into thinking I just had sex. He is like chocolate for the male ear :) I don't listen to much heavy metal and none of the shredders but Schenker is different. He is a Satriani blended with an old blues soul. I wonder what science would learn if we hooked up an MRI to his brain while he was composing a solo.

      Beautiful tone and dynamic expression, amazing wide, slow (and sometimes fast) vibrato. String skipping long before it became fashionable, ascending and descending 3- and 4-point layovers, disjointed blues, chromatic and minor pentatonic runs. Minor and major 3rd, perfect 4th and flat 5th double-stops. Technique for days. Plus that glorious "stuck wah" tone and the Echoplex. Total perfectionist, one of my favourite players since the 70s, along with his mate Uli.

      I've been slowly discovering Priest material (seriously don't know why it took so long... it must be because I did not know they had "less heavy" more hard rock albums in the early days...) Just listened to Stained Class and I'm very impressed, the only thing I can think is that the guitar player must have been influenced by Schenker somehow, very similar styles (mixed with Sabbath of course, whereas Schenker is more influenced by Blackmore Deep Purple)

    • @cocktailhotel
      @cocktailhotel 2 роки тому +1

      @@FeelingShred That's because in the early days heavy metal wasn't quite its own catagorical sound and genre of music yet. Black Sabbath may have been the first and closest to it, but only because their branded sound of hard rock felt like it was coming from a dark place. Hence "Black" Sabbath, when most bands of the day had bluesy structures through their music. If that makes sense. Early Priest was really only limited by sound technology at the time. And yes, Stained Class was my favorite JP album back in the day. It was the first album I ever heard of theirs in full. After that, I also loved Hell Bent For Leather. It was hard rock (or heavy metal) for the time period of the late 70's. In order for them to make it in the states with a hit record of sorts, they had to follow what Scorpions did, which was slightly shift to a more cleaner sound - so Michael Schenker comes in and helps shape the music for the Lovedrive album, and then they followed with Blackout. With Priest, it was designing the feel for the British Steel and Point of Entry albums for making it in the large American market. But they didn't have to stay with that new sound. Scorpions did for the most part, Priest didn't for the most part. They went heavier, and won.

      @@cocktailhotel "Point of Entry" was the first Priest album I heard in its entirety, a couple months back, loved it.

      @@cocktailhotel Just personal taste, I'm not a fan of the heavier stuff myself, the first impression it causes on me is "music from traumatized people", and I had plenty of torment in my early life myself, so I don't wanna go back to that place mentally, if you get what I mean.

      @@cocktailhotel But yeah, in terms of "hard rock" sound production, I would say my number 1 album of all time is Racer X's "Technical Difficulties" (1999) That's my golden standard for hard/heavy guitar album... Heck I love Megadeth's "Peace Sells" too

    Really don't wish to be disrespectful to the dead, but I think MS is on another planet to GM as a guitarist - just my opinion.

    @drunkencruncher your welcome man, Schenker had been playing Gibson Flying V's for years, but he made he signed a deal with DEAN in 2004/5 & alot of fans including me didn't like the tone of the Dean but somehow ,I don't know how they did it but now with his signature guitars that tone is back & he just dsounds amazing ,here on this footage at his Home Studio he was still using Gibsons FV's, this is year 2000 around there!
    check out my latest MSG post ,Thank U.4 watching!

    I can hear the guitar solos more on this "amateur" video than in the final album itself 😭😭 that's why you can't tamper with sound recording too much, sometimes the raw recording is better left untouched
