Hi Nurse Mendoza-- I think you should submit to the Khan Academy NCLEX teacher competition -- we need a good NCLEX-RN teacher that is relateable and makes the information "real" -- you can look up the requirements -- the deadline is Jan 17 and all you need to teach are 3 diseases or three videos (forgot which one) -- but I think the prize is you get paid for your teaching and Khan Academy is now supported by Bill Gates so not too shabby -- I hope you submit and good luck! -YZ
NurseMendoza i am a doctor from india... A post graduate student... Until now i was very poor in abg analysis... Ur video made it so simple and clear...
I THANK YOU SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO MUCH!!!! Tomorrow I take my NCLEX. I had abg's 2 yrs ago at the beginning of nursing school..since then I have forgotten. Knew this would be an issue with me on my boards tomorrow. OMGOSH THANK YOU THANK YOU. Your 20 minute video brought it all back. I actually watched 2x to make sure I got all answers right. Wish I had known about you all through school. When I pass nclex tomorrow ... I start back for RN next month..u can bet I WILL BE watching your videos. I just cant thank you enough..and all my girls will be watching also as we go thru this bridge to RN together. God bless and thanks again

Dude, you're a genuis!!! i'm a new nurse in ICU, i'm french, and believe it or not, i did not found any french lecture or explaination that did make this subject as clear as you just did... thank you for this, keep up sharing your skills please! love from Bordeaux, France! (and sorry for any english mistakes)...
You have a great way of sharing this in a light-hearted and fun manner. I have been a RN for 25 years and always struggled to differentiate them but this helped a LOT!

Thank you ..!! Mr Mendoza you are a life saver... I have to take my test tomorrow morning at 9am and your method of ABG interpretation is quick and easy to understand..! You made the difference between an A and a C for me in my life... Thanks a million..!
Don't just remember the numbers. Understand what they mean. The numbers (45-35) are flipped for PaCO2 because the more CO2 you have, the more acid (H+), which would make the pH more acidic. The lower your CO2, the higher your pH. 😉
Finally!! someone to explain compensated, uncompensated, and partial compensation. it took me three days on youtube to find you!! Cant thank you enough!! keep'em comin!
I Nures Mendoza! Med student here!! Your video was amazing! So clear and easy! I'll definitely be using your way of doing things on the wards next year!!! Also, you saved my butt for my exam tomorrow so thank you!!

Thanks. Just wanted to add 3 items: Rule#1- For every 10 Units rise/fall in the PCo2 the Ph will change by 0.08 units in the opposite direction. Rule#2-For every 1 Unit rise/fall in PH the Hco3 will change in the same direction by 67 Units. To check the Base deficit/excess you need to calculate as below: -(Actual Ph-Predicted Ph)*67 Predicted PH(7.4-Calculation obtained from Rule #1).

Just wanted to add 3 items:
Rule#1- For every 10 Units rise/fall in the PCo2 the Ph will change by 0.08 units in the opposite direction.
Rule#2-For every 1 Unit rise/fall in PH the Hco3 will change in the same direction by 67 Units.
To check the Base deficit/excess you need to calculate as below:
-(Actual Ph-Predicted Ph)*67
Predicted PH(7.4-Calculation obtained from Rule #1).
